Westbrook vs #1 Atascocita 7pm Bruin Gym
CThoops replied to JustUs's topic in High School Boys Basketball
How did this game get on the schedule?? -
Dove, this is half-true. Coaches want someone who looks comfortable out on the court and can put the ball in the basket. Scoring is becoming a rare thing now-a-days. But I will quote quite a few college coaches I have talked to recently, "You are who you can guard." If you can't guard the guy in front of you going to D2 school, you aren't ready for D2. The most impressive things is Attitude, Court-awareness, Defensive Habits, and Scoring

From the sound of things, AAU basketball to the people of this website is very narrow-minded and a waste. That's a shame when trying to discuss AAU as a whole. For all the bad coaches who throw together a summer team, there are just as many Good coaches that are out to teach the players good habits on the court and improve them before the start of their high school season. It all comes down to the coach. What are you looking to get out of this? Are you promoting yourself or the kids? I will do everything I can do teach kids defense in the summer. Proper man-to-man, correct rotations, different zones, etc.. The more exposure to that type of coaching, the better! The coaches who just sit back and "Roll a ball out" are wasting time and people money. For those opposing the AAU basketball world, I would recommend getting out and see the good programs and teams. That's where the team basketball is
-
AAU basketball depends on the coach, and what he believes the kids need to improve upon in the summer. If you don't teach defensive habits and proper skill defense, the coach isn't doing his job at maximizing the time he has with the players

Ozensfinest, care to explain...

I kinda skipped to the end of the thread here, but did OF say he likes Ozen over Atascocita because of guard play?? You know who Carsen Edwards is, right? -
Our guys are playing to level that is expected with the current talent on the field. I don't see where the dispute is. You can label these kids 4-5 star recruits, but they all come from Texas high schools playing against other low classification schools. Tyrone Swoops was said to be the answer at QB.. He was a WAY over ranked player who looked like a stud against 3A talent. Strong is working with what he has, and that's less talented upper-classmen than the other teams in the Big12. This whole situation becomes his fault for not developing talent next year. That's when he will have three years of HIS recruits playing the way HE wants. The Michigan comparison is a perfect example of apples to oranges. Big 10 is not the Big 12.. Where do 90% of the recruits that play in Big 12 come from? Where do the players in the Big 10 come from? Imagine having to use the "leftovers" in Texas high school football against the teams that got their choice. This right here, is the exact reason Mack Brown is no longer coaching. Winning at the highest level requires high level of talent. Some people need to help fight off the sharks!!! No blood in the water yet! The program is bleeding, not the head coach. And YES, these two DO NOT always go hand-in-hand.
-
How are our kids suppose to beat teams like Baylor, TCU, and Oklahoma in Big 12? Those three conference teams have recruited Texas high school players from large schools and play against the 2A-3A standouts Texas sought after. We can see the difference now more than ever. Charlie has brought in high talent and large schools players so far, and those players are called on to play major roles already in their young college careers. He's building a culture he wants in Austin. It begins with having good upperclassmen, and right now that is problem number one on the agenda in need of fixing
-
Any reasonable Texas fan should know that Charlie Strong shouldn't be judged on wins and loses until he gets the last bit of Mack Brown players gone. I love the Horns and want them to win every single game, but I am also a realist. I am a huge believer of Charlie and process he is putting in place. Wins and losses are irrelevant if you want this program to be turned around. Imagine that! Did you every think that University of Texas and complete rebuild would every be in the same sentence? I didn't. But I have come to the realization it has to happen. Let this man clear out the low-enrollment and over-rated players Brown brought in (The Seniors and Juniors), and replace with the upper-class-men Charlie wanted (The current Sophomores and Freshmen). Take the panic button and throw it out. If you're critical of the direction this program is going or the product he is putting on the field, I urge you to wait until 2016-2017 to begin judging. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer! Just don't try to run before you heal a broken ankle

I don't care who anyone else in the country picks up, NO back-court will be better than Kentucky next year! As if they aren't the best this year already... I saw the top recruits this summer, and without a doubt the two most dominant players, who change the game on both ends, were Fox and Monk. This team will be a must watch because that duo alone is just crazy to think about. BG, you getting excited already?
-
Fox is easily the best PG this recruiting class. Don't think he should be a one-and-done though because he needs to bulk-up a bit more before the move to the NBA. He does have the quickest hands I've seen in a game. Bright Future

2015-16 TABC State Rankings, FINAL RANKINGS
CThoops replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Boys Basketball
High expectations this year for SETX teams! IMO, no one has a better chance than Big Sandy to get to State this year -
Spell would be the right guy for the job, BUT can he coach multiple sports (Head baseball & assistant football) and remain an administrator?
-
Nope, but there is the logic. This shows you how great college basketball is this year! You can make a case for every team!
-
Plenty of logic! Mercer is all seniors, which means they won't beat themselves. Plus Duke can't play interior defense. Oklahoma just isn't that good, and Dayton players were a mission to prove they deserved a chance to play at Ohio St. Cincinnati can't score against teams that play decent defense. There's all the logic you need to make those pics! My bracket is screwed, so I am enjoying these awesome games! This year is truly March MADNESS!!

Florida, Michigan St., Oklahoma St., Louisville. Michigan St. vs Louisville in an epic NC game.

It's comical to hear people talk about those days when Ozen and Central had Nederland beat as soon as they walked in the gym.. Does it bother people that much that Nederland competes for district? It's all about getting kids started early! Back in the day, all Nederland kids grew up wanting to play was football.. Brian has got kids interested in basketball, and with the year-round work those young men put in, it all shows once it's time for high school.. No doubt about it, Nederland is here to stay for a good number of years! And this year wont be much different from last.. Nederland brings back the top district player from last year as well as other ball players. They will be right up there for a district championship again

I have a question for Dogs and Dove. Why do you think that 3-a district is so weak when it has Silsbee, WOS, and HJ and yet you dont feel the same about the 4-a district that has Ozen, Central, and Ned?
First off, Nederland beat HJ soundly by 20 this summer, unless you are remembering that one game @ HJ.. Oh yeah, im just livid ::) ;D Second, are you insisting that I dont feel the same about 20-4A? How about ask my opinion first Mr. Guru.. Nederland also benefits from the district they are in, but wont have to worry about hiding behind that this year because the will contend with Central and possibly Ozen for the district championship again
You failed to mention that, in that glorious 20 point victory, Zjori Bosha and Dylan Mayes (starting post player) were absent for HJ
I didnt even want to focus on the summer games and summer head to head matchups, but since you brought it up that "Im just mad about it," I put that out there.. Maybe Nederland would have won that game too if they incorporated cross country running
-
That is a solid group of players, but how they will play together is the biggest concern.. Even if they do, The fact still remains that Chicago will back next year with Rose, Pacers will be even better with Granger, and until proven otherwise, the Heat are the best team in the league

Rockets fans-Do you want Dwight Howard??
CThoops replied to king's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
If the Rockets can keep all of their pieces and add Howard, they immediately become a contender in the West! People right now dont like Howard and who would because of all the negative media he gets from ESPN? Wait until he gets put into a system where he will be featured on the block by a coach who will actually use his skill set. He is still the best center in the NBA and will dominate with guys like Harden and company.. Any Rocket fan who doesn't want him is caught up watching ESPN too much and believing every word they say.. -

Given the district they are in, they always get to contend ;)

No "right now" stars here, but Trey Burke is the closest thing I have seen to Chris Paul out of college.. And the guy who reminds of D-Wade actually went back to college.. Marcus Smart

I expected the Spurs to play better, but the Heat played just awful.. Good offensive execution for most of the game until about mid-way through the third, as in getting high quality looks, but they just couldn't get any shots to go down.. Turnovers happen, and that's fine, but open looks have to fall.. Never EVER help off Green, no matter what.. If you want to come up and help on the pick and roll with Parker, then hedge the crap of him, don't just stand there and give them an easy roll man.. And someone please put a body Lenard.. Thank you The Spurs winning by this much and embarrassing the Heat may not turn out to be so nice in game 4.. Not trying to down-talk the Spurs too much here, but I got a feeling Miami will respond soundly next game.. They should come in with the same mentality as game 2.. Revenge

Wade may not be the player he used to be with all the knee problems, but Lebron has by far enjoyed playing with him more than anyone in his NBA career, and he still fits as a good second scoring option. Pat Riley can find spot up shooters for small one-year contracts to replace the older guys. Chalmers, Cole, Bosh, Battier, and Haslem are perfect fits for Lebron's game. And if the Heat have any sense, they will resign Anderson, and will go after other big men in free agency. If he moves, he will just continue to get more criticism by the media which turns into hate by the fans. He ain't leaving South Beach Now if the Heat want to REALLY be smart, try and trade some of those young prospects for lottery picks in the 2014 draft ;)
-
Why on Earth would Lebron leave?? If it aint broke, dont fix it.. If he wins a title, he stays because he wants multiple rings. If they somehow lose, he still comes back because ownership will make sure he stays happy Unless yall have other inside info, I'm confused at the logic ???
