AH over CCC has to be one of the biggest upsets this year... especially this deep in the playoffs...
They returned the key parts of their team from last year, and they were as good of a 4A team as you get. Just goes to show you that it only takes one game -

He pushed and pulled on him unmercifully. When Weisbrod got the ball, he was quickly double or tripled teamed and i saw the game. The same guy did not guard him all night, they switched out.

I don't know whether Weisbrod was MVP or not but the coaches thought so. They all knew who they needed to stop when they played against Nederland. How many teams used more that one man to guard him? The teams that beat him used a holding, mauling, pushing defense against him rotating their players against him and the refs allowed the mauling. He was mauled in ways they don't permit in college or pro on a continuous, complete game basis.
There was a sophomore from Beaumont Central that made him look real average. ;)

So in all three games against Central,it was the officiating keeping him from playing like a MVP?
No.. It was the multiple defenders needed to keep him under-control.. No way teams play him straight up.. If a team does, they didn't do their homework!

For all the seniors, I know this is a hard one to swallow.. But don't hang your heads! Y'all represented Nederland proudly for these years! You continued to show basketball fans and coaches in the area that Nederland is something to be reckoned with! I can speak for lots of people when I say how proud I am of what y'all have accomplished! Go Dogs! -

Lets go Dogs! Finish right here! -
This kid will be a sensation wherever he goes.. Next year, he is gonna take over the college game
-
Very fundamental game! Both teams like to have the pace slower and depend on execution. Honestly, I know this Nederland group performs much better against teams like that instead of running athletic teams.. I predict Weisbrod have a big game against them! Nederland by 7

They have come up with many different ways to "talk the program down" and if HJ loses tonight, they will begin the "this is the beginning of the end" talk. Fortunately, talk is only that- talk. Games are still won and lost on the floor and HJ is likely to continue to have competitive teams. Deal with it.
Unless they reconstruct the bracket, the first and third place teams from y'all's district won't see regionals.. Very much unfair, but it is what it is.. Fight for second if you want play in the playoffs longer
Doesnt really matter- To get to Austin, you very likely have to go through Yates whether its the first, second, third, etc round of the playoffs
If the success of your season is determined by making it to Austin, then you better hope to get reclassified until Yates is no longer 3A

Ball control.. If you can't manage the game by keeping Yates out of the break, you are doomed.. Without Johnson, the best guard on HJ, it's going to take a whole lot of factors for them to keep it close with Yates
-
Dove knows the rules around here!! Don't ever speak badly of HJ!! It's a sin 8)

Nederland was just way better than Coldspring.. Dont know how much things changed but it was a comfortable win HJ should win this game, but I agree with it being close.. Hard to replace your best player being out

Silsbee and HJ gets hard road to Regionals
CThoops replied to Springtime's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads

HJ and Silsbee got screwed in the playoff pairings this year. Both Silsbee and HJ will have to face Houston Yates to even get to regionals. HJ might play them in the second round and Silsbee might face them in the third. WOS would not face them until the regional finals if they make it that far. Go to [Hidden Content] and see the bracket. JMO
I believe everyone here has been aware of this even before the season started. ::) But thanks for posting. ;)
Sound a little sensitive there :-[ he was just helping the kind folks around this board know ahead of time why neither HJ or Silsbee gets to regionals this year! I appreciate you Springtime 8) -
Why dickie? Why do we have to have that stuff to talk basketball? Or even debate basketball?
I think he is trying to say that his level of basketball knowledge is far beyond the lowly folks on here.. We are all subject to his wisdom.. "Royalty" remember? ;)
-
Doesn't make a lot of sense why they would take a coin-flip.. Not trying to be mean here, but you either get Nederland or PNG.. You pick who you want to play first round of the playoffs
-
Can someone please explain why Humble and Crosby didn't play a tie-breaker game?

Me and Soulja talk a lot about Nederland and Central basketball.. The one thing I commonly say to him is that no one, and I mean NO ONE, is going to want to have Central on the schedule in two years.. As much as I love Nederland basketball and want them to succeed, I have to be completely realistic here.. Central will be top ranked in the state in 2 years and one of the favorites to win it all!
