CThoops replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I don't think it would matter if silsbee had all there players or not.. I pick central by 8 with silsbee at full strength -

3A #7 Hardin-Jefferson vs 2A #5 Kountze Friday
CThoops replied to BBfan061's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Kountze is really good for a 2A school.. They arent afraid to play in-your-face defense on anybody.. HJ really has two ball-players who will determine their success, Johnson and Bosha.. I predict the refs will need the halftime break more tha the players ;D -
And why is Nederland picked first? smh :-\
I dont have a clue either.. The havent been doing too well lately and dont have much returning -
Nederland, WOS, Kelly Scrimmage
CThoops replied to Honest Abe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Very talented for a freshman, and can handle the ball.. When his time comes a few years from now, he will be a force at the guard spot, but for now, he is a freshman looking for a spot on a varsity team that returns almost all key players and reserves ;) -
Question for Abe or any other NED fan. I keep hearing about Ned's Fab Freshman guard from Memorial. I keep hearing from several knowledgeable BB guys that he is the best ball handler in Ned and should be up on Varsity. Although, English usually keeps his Fresh down and together will this kid make the jump or will he play down all year?
We will see how that situation plays out.. With some guys out at the start of the year for football, he could play up on varsity.. But it is what it is for now -
Nov. 8th Scrimmage @ HJ or Kountze

I just see it funny how you love to jump in and comment about something not related to what was being discussed just because you see it comical to remind Dove about the real basketball thing ;) -

Julius Randle Best in the Country
CThoops replied to BADSANTA's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Never seen him in person, but I watch every high school All star game, or showcase game on espn, and I can see he is a highly skilled power forward who wants to be a guard.. He is good, but not the best in his class.. That is Parker -
Julius Randle Best in the Country
CThoops replied to BADSANTA's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
He is pretty darn good, but way too shot happy.. He is quick for 6'9 guy -
They deserve number 1 for preseason, but I can name a few teams that will be right up there when tournament times comes

Texpreps Magazine District Picks
CThoops replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
20-4A looks pretty good. Only thing thing that could be different is having Nederland and Central as 1a and 1b -
I could have sworn this was the basketball thread about district 20-4A ???
-
The biggest thing working against the Beaumont schools is the fact that Nederland just isn't scared to play them anymore.. Nederland is used to not only beating them, but going on to winning district or sharing it.. The group returning is full of seniors who can compete with anyone when the stakes are high enough.. They got plenty of weapons, tons of skill, all the experience, yet they are still suppose to be a notch below central, and even ozen... Brian will have these bulldogs ready to make a run! Regardless of what people want to believe

NEDERLAND AT VIDOR BROADCAST/Nederland wins 20-13!!!
CThoops replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I dont understand this "rivalry" thing people keep bringing up.. and by people, I mean Vidor fans.. The only time I hear "rivalry" between Nederland and Vidor is from Vidor fans.. Have you heard a Nederland fan say that yet? ??? :o 8) Listened to the game on the broadcast and sounded pretty intense in the 4th quarter -
Final Prediction for the Vidor-Nederland Game.....

Nederland 28 Vidor 7 -
While it is true than anyone can be beat on any given day, what Yates will be returning is just not fair for the 3A level..
-
He is referring to Jared Lormier, an all-district player from the past season
-
He does have a good future at high jump, no question there.. But this would be his last year ever to play basketball.. I dont think he would give up on his team and best friends after the years they went through.. He played last year and did track, and didnt get injured, so I say he should be good to go ;)

Think it really did become a two-team race between Central and Nederland
Yep, Nederland is a shoo-in for 2nd, because Central will be Austin this year.
::) My point was just what Soulja said.. Ozen used to get every kid with basketball talent to go there.. The fact that there is even a question to where they are going should tell you enough.
The race will be out of Central and Nederland this year. They will have the most experienced players. Ozen will be too inexperienced this season but will have the most speed out of all the other teams in the district. Ozen and Livingston will be battling for for 3rd and 4th spot. Ozen is just too young to make any noise this year. So, just take Ozen off the radar. Plus Ozen has several players leaving the program this year to attend other schools. On top of this, the top freshmen are reported to be enrolling into Central. Looks like Central will win State this year.
Is that a confirmed fact?
-
Central should be solid and could be better than this past season, even without Smith.. I clearly am biased and think Nederland is the team to beat.. Won or shared district for a few years now.. Return the core of their team.. They have the two of the top 5 players in the Southeast Texas area, regardless of classification, English and Weisbrod, who will be asked to be even better this year.. The Biggest question though is what happens with these "going to be freshman" kids from the Beaumont school district.. A few of them have serious Varsity talent.. If they go to Ozen, it puts the Panthers right up there with Central and Nederland.. Those Hunter boys can ball, but will need some help to win district

You can talk all day about the dream team being the best squad ever, and I have respect for them.. But could you imagine the mental approach leading up to that game? You start telling guys like lebron, Kobe, Durant, Paul, Melo, and etc. that the team you are about to play is suppose to beat your butt.. Guarantee those guys would be like, "oh really? Let me show you what I can do too" Way too much talent on the squads.. My favorite argument is the HOF count.. Honestly, this year squad has plenty of guys that when their careers are over will be there too.. And I can tell you one more thing I know for sure.. This squad, when they want to, can play some hardcore defense.. Feel free to criticize, but I pretty sure the difference ain't as much as some people would like it to be
