Isn't that choice really up to the Coach that they hire? Are they really going to evaluate among themselves, or the committee, or the group of Dads, or whoever has the hiring power at PN-G, that they want to run power football so that's the only coaches they will look at? Good grief, if that's the case, no wonder the situation in PN-G is so screwed up. Why is it so hard to understand that this is an open discussion and not some attempt to influence either the powers that be at PN-G or some future head coach? I too have wondered whether a spread oriented coach or power oriented coach would be better. What difference does it make if people express their opinion here? Why does there always have to be a group of you that have no connection to the PN-G program on here running your mouths? Because you guys over there in purple and white are so jumpy now (as you illustrate) - it's fun to get under your skin. It's a forum man: when I comment you say it's running my mouth. When you comment it's pearls of wisdon. I suspect the answer lies somewhere in between. I'll quit though since it seems to upset you. You are not going to get many pearls of wisdom from me. This is a PN-G matter. I have no problem reading everyone's opinion, it just gets old when people outside the community with no input into the matter feel the need to crap on every PN-G thread. Dont post on an open forum then You guys are missing the point. I guess without a PN-G education it is hard to get past 3rd grade level comprehension. ;D

I don't feel high and mighty, I don't think Todd Dodge is going to quit to coach us, I just want a solid coach who can help get the program back to a respectable level.

Some of you guys are complete idiots. There is nothing wrong with discussing a how a coach might or might not fit a school on a PUBLIC message board. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. This messageboard is here for people to express that opinion. If you don't like it, don't read it.

I am getting ALOT of snow here in mid county. I just hope it is still around in the morning.

Are you a member of the PN-G community? If not, then sthu. All of you outsiders need to worry about your own. PN-G has made the playoffs only 3 times this decade. That is not going to cut it.

Update on the PN-G coaching situation
akifan94 replied to HoopInsider_Cooper's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
See, herein lies the problem. Those that don't follow the program don't really know what his overall record is. They just assume that it is great since it's PNG and they hear about them each season, but take a look at teh real numbers. Overall 94-65 (0.591) with 6 playoff appearences. Not bad, not great either. The 0.591 winning percentage ranks him 11th on the all time PNG list for coaches. Theres been 18 HC's at PNG. But what has happened lately. Without the D. Long three years the record is: 64-58 (0.525) In the past 9 years since the state title game run: 52-40 (0.565) But that includes just three (3) winning seasons and three (3) playoff appearences (1 in the last four years). The numbers speak for themselves. Not as GREAT as everyone thinks are they! To put that into perspective, Neuman over that same period is: 119-52 (0.696) with 12 playoff appearences. Matt is a great person and good coach, but if he can't see that he needs help on the offensive side of the ball then maybe he should be replaced. I would love to see him stay and focus on defense and hire an established, imaginative OC. Just don't have any reason to believe it will happen. seems the numbers are different ??? Last ten years 1998 9-2 Bi-District 1999 14-2 State Finals 2000 5-5 2001 3-6 2002 5-5 2003 10-2 Area 2004 8-4 Area 2005 5-3 2006 5-5 2007 8-4 Regional 2008 3-6 Total 75-44 I was a little off on the losses, but is still a decent record for the past 10 years, not great, but decent. Notice how the years are bunched up for playoffs. Do you think that it might be the rotation of a mixture of players coming through and then a not so good crop of players. Just my honest opinion based on keeping up with HS football across the state for a long time. So ... what I'm hearing is that PNG isn't beating Ned as often as they think they should, so they need to get rid of a coach that's been there umpteen years. Do you all truly believe that playoffs should be in your year every year? Do you truly feel that you simply can't get through life without a completely dominant team? I think your coach and your kids work hard every year. I think your turn will come again. All this whining about PNG in years past and it's not that way now ... that's the past...and it may well be that way again, but this sense of entitlement has gotta go. Explain to me how wanting your team to win is a sense of entitlement? The fact is unless Burnett has a group come through with above average talent, he does nothing. Here is a fact for you. We had 4 of 5 OL return, 1 above average RB return, a 3 year starter at QB, and a WR who was one of the best in the district this year. But, after the last game Burnett said they did not win because they had no talent. It sure was enough to win district the year before. Burnett has also been horrible at developing kids. We had maybe 1 or 2 kids return on defense this year. Guess what, we will only have 2 next year, and that is if Benoit does not quit to focus on baseball. Our lineman were playing both ways with one of the largest programs in SETX. How is that? He is a d-line coach. Am I supposed to believe he cannot find another 3 or 4 kids out of 200 that he can plug in on the d-line? It is no coincedence we were shut out in the second half of at least 3 district games. We were beating both Lumberton and Vidor at the half. I am not making excuses are whining. This goes deeper than some sort of entitlement. This is about the fans and players believing the head coach is putting the team in the best position to win. Not having a coach who wants to fall back on past successes and lay the blame at the feet of the players when the wins don't come. -
I saw a fight in the stands tonight

Here is what happened from a source close to the situation..... A woman was being mouthy and degrading the players and coaches. A guy two rows down had enough and told her to quiet it down due to kids and coaches family members in the area they were sitting. He then followed that up by telling her she did not know what she was talking about anyways. Her husband decides to get involved and stands up to say a few things. A guy between them tries to calm it down. The husband takes a swing at the guy two rows down, but hits the guy in the middle. The guy in the middle protects himself and unleashes about 3 to 5 shots to the husbands face. Cops come and escort the husband and middle man out. After sorting through it the middle guy is allowed back in after explaining he was trying to play peace maker and only defending himself. This might not be verbatim, but pretty close to what happened. This has been brewing for years. People are not happy with some of the coaching staff and there will be a lot of tension until Burnett is gone. -
Wow. bitter much? I agree, really bitter. Something must have happened in order for you to be full of so much hate! Hmmmmmmm....... ??? ??? ??? What happened? Well, I think ALL Nederland fans know what happened in the fall of 1984. Nederland snapped the 19 year drought against PN-G. I guess this 1985 graduate suffered so much trauma watching the Bulldogs beat the Indians for the FIRST TIME IN HIS LIFE his senior year, he turned Benedict Arnold and switched sides. IMO.... Nederland and PN-G are like comparing A&M and UT. A&M might beat UT evey now and then, like the last couple of years, but what do they do in the big games..... Heck, Nederland even has the same fight song as A&M. Compared to the tradition, # of wins, # of playoff wins, attendance records, no wonder the Bulldogs are filled with envy. At least PN-G has played in the State championship in the last 20 years and doesn't have to go back over a half century to say they won a state championship. In summary... Nederland is a wanna be PN-G. But in the end.... When all is said and done... It is one big family. If Nederland is the last team playing in the playoffs, there will be plenty of PN-G fans in the stands rooting for the Bulldogs, just as there was when PN-G was playing the state game in the dome not too long ago. How long has it been since png won state? ??? How far has png gone in the playoffs recently? ??? Seems to me that png is alot more like A&M than big ned. It is not a big family. I do not like png. Not because of who they are but more because of the way they act. 1. 1975.... 6 total trips to the finals (went as late as 99) 2. Went to the 2nd round last year and played the eventual state champs to a pretty good game. 3. thats a joke 4. no comment. I have one question for you: How many outright district championships has Nederland won in the Neumann era? Ill hang up and listen. owned. ;D

Glad theres never been any home cookin at the reservation. : At least someone can admit it. ;D Layingemdown. I did not know that about a fair catch. I thought if you dropped it, then picked it up you were fair game.

We ran another play. It should have been 2nd and 20 instead of 3rd and 20. It really should have been 1st and 10 from 15 yards back of the run after Ned declined the holding penalty. If it was a great call, why did he not throw the flag until after the play was over? Watch the replay. He throws the flag after Wright has ran for 30 plus yards. Maybe he had trouble getting the flag out. Let's face it. There were several horrible calls. 1. The fair catch / non fair catch when it was obvious we called a fair catch and the PN-G guy was hit. 2. The PF on Gaspard when the WR was not even down when he dove for him. 3. The actual late hit on Wright when he and the defender rolled out of bounds and Wright was drove back down again. 4. The botched PF / holding call after taking 5 minutes to discuss it and still screw it up. But, that is not why we lost. We lost due to a lack of game changers (people who take one handed juggling catches 74 yards for a TD on 3rd and 13). A lack of people who can field a punt or kickoff. No pressure from the ends (that was key for us last year). We were outcoached and outplayed. The refs calls were like having dirt rubbed in your eyes after getting both of them blackened.
-
I agree. They kicked our butts. Like I said. I was just confused about the call.
-
Let me preface this by saying Nederland kicked our butts. But, I have one question about a call and I realize it had no bearing on the game. This is strictly out of my own curiosity. After Wright ran for about a 35 yard gain in the 3rd quarter we were flagged for holding. The call was bogus, which led to McLin saying something to the ref and picking up a 15 yarder. The holding was declined. Why is it that the 15 yarder was marked off from the original LOS and we were giving a loss of down? It was after the play. If both penalties were enforced, then it should have been more yards marked off. Am I missing something here?

Real mature for a 40 something year old. I bet you feel real cool right now.
-
What a tool. Oh crap, big bad Nederland is coming. What did I do to deserve this. All I wanted to do was play football, now this. Oh my gosh, someone save me. Poor, poor me. What a jerk. He is so biased it makes me want to puke. He needs to hang it up and go write for the Nederland school paper. I hope our boys read this junk and realize half of Nederland are chuckling over their coffee after ole' Tom breaks down how one of their teammates should just go ahead and piss his pants now. Why not write a story on the player and his team, and not how scary the other team is?
-
I noticed this both of the past 2 years that dayton play PNG, and apparently its happening this year. Do you think the QB/RB mechanics break down or what. I know every team does this from time to time, but it seems like a trend, IMO. I guess. One was on an option pitch that Wright dropped while looking upfield. The other was a dive that Harmon never got control ove and fumbled it right into the line.
-
1. (Some) Nederland fans get awful cocky when their running game works for the first time in a few years. 2. PN-G looked good, but cannot fumble, especially when no one has touched you if they want to win against the rest of 20-4A. 3. SFA85 still hates mid-county even though better football is played there. :'( 4. LC-M needs a new coach. 5. Livingston is supposed to be a playoff team in 20-4A? Not looking like it. 6. Vidor could be in for a playoff trip. 7. Ozen will not make a playoff trip. 8. I screwed up and did not get MCM tickets early enough. 9. Nederland scares me, but I am not ready to say they can beat us. 10. The 20-4A playoff teams will be PN-G/Nederland/and two of Central/Vidor/Lumberton.
