Huntington returns opening kickoff and recovers kick off fumble. 6-0 devils

Looking back on the last three years, it seems Huntington has been cursed in this matchup.  My details may be fuzzy but three years ago Huntington was ahead running the time off of the clock and threw an interception that was returned for the winning TD.  Two years ago Huntington was ahead half way through the 4th and intercepted a pass on the 2 yard line that was thrown from the 40 (should have been batted down), went three and out giving Tarkington good field position, they took advantage of it and put it in at the end of the 4th to win.  Last year again was a good game with Tarkington coming out on top.  I'll take Huntington in this one and will be making the drive to see what unfolds in the season opener.

This was actally a pretty good game.  Tarkington scored twice on 30+ yard runs in the first half.  14-0 at the half.  The Devils defense shut out Tarkingtons offense in the second half, but the kickoff right after Huntington scored, Tarkington took it to the house, and the air left the stadium.  That made the score 20-8.  Huntington has to learn to hold onto the ball...they averaged 5 yards a play, only punted twice and scored only one TD.  Defensively Huntington has to make quick adjustments.  Good luck to both teams, both are in pretty good districts.

yes turnovers were rediculous. Huntington defense made some big stops, but turnovers made it an interesting game for both teams. Huntington's qb had never taken a snap in a game

Now lets be honest. I can see where a Tarkington fan, or any other fan would bet against the Devils, but lets be honest....30? I'll take that under anyday of the week and twice on Sunday. In fact, I'll take Huntington and give you 8 points....any takers? Huntington JV 8 Tarkington JV 0

I say Huntington by 10. Huntington is big and slow, but playing it to their advantage. Their coach has a good system for their kids. I say if they can contain Tarkingtons QB (who looks pretty tough) they will do well....if not he could be dangerous.

The Huntington/Splendora scrimmage has changed time and location. The scrimmage will be at Lufkin's Abe Martin Stadium at 1:00 pm on Saturday the 15th. The scrimmage was originally scheduled for 10am at Huntington, but Red Devil Stadium will be under construction on that day.

Will Tarkington start with success with a late summer coaching change or will Huntington bounce back from an 0-10 with a week 0 win?

Your right, this isnt Huntington Tx, however, you must not have known a few of the past coaches....spirited guys to say the least

I agree that a tougher pre-distric schedule is better for good teams. For young teams or programs that struggle, I think a pre-district with similar programs help gain confidence

who is carpenter? is he from tarkington or an outside guy?

I grew up hearing about Newton (my mom graduated from there a long time ago) and Kirbyville was never mentioned. Recently they have obviously been doing well, I hope they continue to reload after turning that program around. No doubt that there are atheletes in that area (Newton, Jasper, Kirbyville), and I wish them luck.

I have heard some about their situation. Sucks for the kids, but interested in who the coach will be. There was a thread on this topic on here a few days ago but it has been removed for some reason. With 2-a-days starting Monday, I bet it is getting a bit crazy over there....
