Way to go Lady Cougars!  This  type of game is why the UIL should go to a wild card type system... instead of 3 teams going from each district... HF or BC are more deserving of a playoff spot than Cleveland... (Cleveland lost ot HJ's JV earlier in the year..) If you look at the 23-3a district out of Houston... there are 2 teams form that district that would struggle to win a district game against the JV teams from 21-3a....  uggg.....

bleed - don't be gettin all cozy with kenneth....  still mad you talked him out of making a gumbo bet with me this year.... ;D This game between HF and OF should be a pretty hard fought game... second life for HF, who will probably play a little more relaxed... and probably a good thing for OF being that they have played a few games with several girls hurt..and will have one back... Good Luck to both!

Calloway - It is people like you that are the reason why no one wants to stick around at HF.  You guys have had 4 different coaches in the past 6 years ... ever wonder why?  The coach at HF did a pretty darn good job this season, especially considering that she lost alot from the previous year....  Last I checked... players still have to play the game...

Congrats to the Lady Hawks on their 5th straight district championship... And 4th undefeated district championship in a row.  Playoff Time!

Great game by the Lady Hawks tonight.... 41 in a row! HJ's defense was pretty good... even with some players in serious foul trouble early on!! Buna will have a good draw in the playoffs....Good luck Lady Cougars..

The reason you didnt see any of the HJ girls in little dribblers is this... Of that group... 2 are at westbrook, 3 are at Ozen... ;) To say that HJ recruits is a ludicrous statement....  We have a heck of a program that we work HARD to [u]develop[/u]!!! Just curious where our players went to school if we recruited em....

It is weaker than in the past.. yes.... but I would say that the HJ team this year would compete pretty darn well with past HJ teams.... As far as Central and Vidor... HJ lost at Vidor the first game of the year by 2, in a game that was decided by ALOT of freethrows... they split with central.. losing at central and beating them by 10+ in the YMBL tourney... to say that HJ couldn't compete is laughable.... If you want to talk about weak districts, look at some of the other 3a districts... It is very plausible that 2 teams from this district could very well be playing in the Regional tournament this year... Bobcat05- the winner would probably play the winner of  yates and either OF or HF in the 3rd round and the runner up would probably play splendora..... you really don't think either would win that ??game?

i think it speaks well of HJ that they can play arguably their worse game of the year shooting wise, have 4 starters in foul trouble most of the game and still win by double digits on the road...

1st off... a 1-3-1 does not always have to trap.... ozen plays it straight up alot.... when you have a good team, your priorities should be to do what you can to help advance your team the furthest it can go.....several times this season.... i have seen ozen get near 100 only to have coach brown slow em down... i think that ozen should be allowed to play hard for 4 entire quarters in a way that will benefit them down the stretch.... not to pad stats... you said that there is nothing that would excuse a score like this..... my response is yes there is...  you are implying that ozen should stop playing hard, miss some shots, kill time or let png shoot or score.....  i am saying that it is not the job of the ozen coach to worry about what the other team is doing... how they are feeling etc....  her job is to develop and coach her team. as far as me, i have been in quite a few games where we were vastly better than the other team.  I have used all kinds of things to keep the score close, but at no time to i ever tell a player to take it easy or not play as hard.... i let my subs know that now is a chance for them to earn more time.  I actually got blasted on here a few years back when we shut out 3 teams.... 60-0, 58-0 and 71-0....  those scores could have probably been 150-0 so yes we let up... but not on defense... because that was what I as a coach decided our team was going to hang our hat on for that season...

hf fan - what is the point level when you tell your players to "slow" down?  40, 50, 60, 70 80? btw ozen does not press... they play a half court 1-3-1.  to tell them they have to play a 2-3, so that png can get a shot up is awful.... to say they should hold the ball and let the time run out is not fair to either team... I am sure that coach downs... who is not a 1st year coach by any means... would rather play the game than to sit and watch ozen stand and hold the ball for the last 16 min of the game... that certainly does not help png get any better. I would imagine that if ozen wanted to put up 150, they probably could have...  maybe the score was a result of them taking it easy... you have to remember this was a pretty darn good team.. with 3 d1 players playing a really bad team.... happens some time. the ymca has games where they don't keep score...

Great team effort from the lady hawks tonight!!!!

HJ will not let their guard down.... I promise that.  I think it will be interesting to see an improved BC squad and HF down the stretch.....  should make the grab for the final playoff spot interesting.

haha... my wife and kids showed up for the second day.... so free time was out of the question... HJ lost to magnolia by 4 and then defeated Marble Falls (coached by former OF coach Chris Jost) for 3rd place.  Hj won on a shot as time expired. will try to get other results, but didnt see many other games other than ours...

HJ over Crosby by about 50. Lufkin over Livingston Lovelady over Rusk Magnolia over Huffman Marble Falls over diboll in overtime by 1...  Diboll player fouled marble falls thinking they were behind with 2 seconds left... they hit both free throws and won.... good game HJ beat Houston Reagan in their second game 74-17... HJ played really well both games.... good to see after the long break...

I would bet alot of it has to do with bad timing....  The gym at Kelly is used for lots of school things....school masses, fundraisers, dances, etc... Those things and when other teams can play sometimes don't add up in the most practical manner....

This was beaumont central .. game played at beaumont central... hj won against them a week later at the ymbl tournament by 11

HJ won 88-69..
