Helmets and shoes flying off, whats the deal?
DLine replied to bronco1's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Kids not snapping thier chin straps isn't the problem. (well most of the time) It's an equipment problem. About 8 to 10 years ago the snaps changed from all meatal to mostly plastic with a metal ring inside. It worked ok but broke. A lot. About 5 years ago no more metal ring all plastic. They warp and get stripped and even when they are new they don't hold as well. But they have one big advantage they are cheap to make and cheaper to buy. But then again, i've been wrong before, that's just my experience with the issue. -
Good game. It always is between these two no matter the record. Every one comes to win. Congrats Hawks.

The Hawks D held Newton to 167 on the ground. Who would have thought? But Newton has some 1st rate recievers and had an excellent plan for getting them the ball. I'm not into moral victories but it does show something about the desire for the Hawks to earn some respect. On a side note the players, coaches and fans for Newton are polite and respectful. All around 1st class and true sportsmen.

They scored on a very well played trap. it was 82 yards. 1st play in series silent count. Defense didn't even see it until quick little full back was in the 3rd level. saftey missed the tackle and off to the races. It accounted for half of clevelands total offense. Very nice play. -
If i read the program right i think that HJ is a pretty young team. I think they start 5 sophmores ( 2 on D, 3 on O) and 10 Juniors (5 on D and 5 on O). They are also putting in both a new defense and a new offense. They should get better as the season goes on.

If you haven't seen The Barry Center in Cy-Fair it looks better than most D1 collages. Very nice.

True Kelly isn't a power house now but they aren't in the uil competing at this time. I know it's hard to do but you must project into the future. What class would Kelly play in? Are they going to give scholarships like they do now? Are they still going to be supported by the church and does the cost of school still depend on how much you make and if you are Catholic? Is that fair? So that i'm not hiding anything I coach in the public schools. Those of you that are supporting this bill, do you have kids in private or public schools? Just to make sure where everyone stands. And any one that doesn't think this town has money doesn't pay attention.

I just got back from the combine at Cy-Fair ISD. There were about 300 coaches and the consensus was that if this is put into effect it will end Texas football (and all other sports) as we now know it. Even though they say there will be rules about recruiting, there will always be ways around it. A couple of arguments. First, private schools have entrance exams so they get to decide who gets in and who doesn't while as a public school teacher you must teach who ever shows up at the door. This does a couple of things. One, it makes the school more appealing to parents. So the parents of a good athlete is approached and asked wouldn't it be better for your son/daughter at school X. What parent wouldn't take it. Two it allows them to control the size of the school so they can compete at whatever level "they" choose. Example, Ned, PNG, WOS at the 2A level. Second, is it recruiting if you give scholarships, (hey we like you come to our $10,000 a year school for free) is it recruiting? A lot, not all but a lot, of private schools have a lot of money and would have a lot more if dad and grandpa knew that they could attract better athletes with money specifically for facilities. Where would you rather play, podunk field or at mini Reliant stadium. Just my two cents. But I would like to know where the legislator’s kids go to school.

Whats your greatest coach's quote?

This wasn't a coach but a kid. And some one may remember it. OL v. DL drills. Very large Olineman rolls his ankle and is laying on his back moaning. Everyone watching as trainer comes over. Second Olineman takes off running to water bottles and comes back. Takes the bottle and pours it on hurt linemans ample stomach and says "You got to keep the blow hole wet." We fell out. Couldn't practice for 15 mins. -
WOS does have speed and good coaching. thier two's could place 4th or 5th in district. The problem they are going to have is the kicking game. It's such an over looked area(maybe not by cornel(sp) and dan-ray) but by many. I know they know it too. An extra point or field postion is going to hurt them somewhere in the playoffs. Just my 2 cents.
