Right now it would be the teams who are in the playoffs, during the season, I'd have to say Vidor and Lumberton. For some reason everyone has an opinion or a comment to post about them.
-
I played at Vidor a few years back and I know the commitment that the coaches and players have. You say football has to be an all year round sport, well trust me it is at Vidor. Every day during the summer, off-season and holidays the kids are up there working out and so are the coaches. I don't think anyone has more heart than Vidor. Like I said before, I don't think that Vidor is playing to win the game. They play not to lose the game instead of going out there and getting the job done right off the bat. Things are in place, just a little different mindset is needed.
-
I don't think the players really care if fans are leaving or not. And if they are looking into the stands, that may be a problem as well, they should be paying attention to the game. And by the way FBFan made the exact statement that I made before him.

I AM SHOCKED! Dravanti Johnson
formerpirate replied to NederlandFreak2006's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Yeah maybe a little weight, but programs with passing games and spread offenses like the smaller speedy FBs. He would fit the mold if he could get to maybe 230lbs. and still run relatively fast. Amazing talent and he seems to be very coachable. I really hope he gets something. -
Exactly. I do not like TAMU but it is the same there as it is here. It may not be the coaches fault either. Maybe the players are playing to conservatively and then when the game is at the end, they sell out and do all they can. I believe the pieces are in place here and if we change our midset a bit, we can do some pretty amazing things. The only game that we were not in this year was Dayton, all the rest were games we could have won. Tweak the mindset and great things can happen.

I think that Mosely would be an excellent FB at the next level. Somewhere like Texas or Texas Tech where they could utilize him in the passing game as well as the running game. I hate to see talent not go anywhere. Good luck to all players who are trying to make it to the next level. -

WHO THE HECK CARES ABOUT YOUR PLAYOFF RECORDS
formerpirate replied to thescoop's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Sounds good to me. I understand it is all in good fun, as long as it doesn't mess with the kids who play hard. Besides a few years ago I was doing the same thing they are, practicing everyday and working hard just for Friday night. I just know how it feels to be disrespected and be the butt of the joke even though you work just as hard as everyone else. -

I agree with you on some things. I don't mind schools and fans being proud of their playoff streaks that is fine. But to put down other schools and call them names such as Vidor and Lumberton that is just classless. Support your team and their accomplishments, but do not put down other teams. All the players work hard but not all can reap the benefits of others. As a former player I know what it feels like to be put down by other schools and fans and be labeled a loser. So to any fans who put down other schools, you are the losers. I believe that this is the reason that the lesser schools such as Lumberton and Vidor are bitter towards winning programs. So celebrate your teams accomplishments, but do not do it at the expense of making fun of another team. By the way, good luck to all teams in the playoffs and to all who fought hard to continue their playoff streaks such as Nederland. Your players overcame a tough stretch, congrats to the players. -
Most dissapointing team this year?
formerpirate replied to king's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Lumberton, they hadn't lost a game since I can't remember when and they lost 7 district games this year. They were destined to win state this year. -
Don't even talk about being classy you moron. Have you read some of your posts?? You show your true colors on here when you talk about another team the way you do. Good job making the playoffs at 5-5 but you think you accomplished something?? How about making a little run in the playoffs before you start bragging. Vidor may have only won 2 district games but they were competitive in all but Dayton. The lesser teams are trying to turn their programs around and you stil talk all the trash you do. I don't mind trash talking as long as you are not an idiot and run down other schools and towns. So instead of running down someone elses team, how about you congradulate yours and move on. And don't even mention what piratefan said earlier in the year because I believe we have already discussed that earlier. Like I've said over and over, don't go down to someones level to run down a school because you look like an idiot when you do.

Are There More Down Years In Store For PNG & Ned?
formerpirate replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Don't put to much stock into what the younger kids are doing. Vidor's class of 2004 went undefeated in Jr. High beating all the kids they played against at the varsity level. Also they lost one game as freshmen and won district as well. Coaching is the biggest part of how well kids develop. That said I think Ned. and PNG will rebound due to good coaching. -
Who is the best sophomore in the area??

I didn't know Nederland made the playoffs. That is because you haven't yet. How about you make the playoffs before you punch your ticket and start asking questions about support.

PN-G 14 Vidor 7 FINAL/COMMENTS
formerpirate replied to Bobcatfan4life's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think Matthews can be compared to the parable of the 5 loaves and the 2 fishes or even Jesus walking on water. What he has done with Vidor is nothing short of miraculous. Respectfully, Vidor has no real talent, small players and few to choose from. He usually has 1 fairly decent athlete, this year it is a running back and that is IT.. He takes that and gives Vidor real hope of winning despite a tremendous deficiency in size, talent and a disadvantage to PNG, Nederland, Central and Ozen's talent pool.. Watching the way he coaches his kids and the passion he coaches with.. I think he would be a viable replacement for Coach Neumann at Nederland and could probably win a state championship if you gave him talent like LaMarque or WOS. HE is not the problem, Vidor is not the problem. It just is what it is. He is doing an absolutely INCREDIBLE job with what he has to work with and if you knew anything about football whatsoever you would realize that.. You better hope he stays around for a long time because coaches of his caliber are hard to come by and if he leaves unless you get a comparable coach, which I doubt, Vidor will once again be reduced to a bottom dweller just like Nederland will when Neumann leaves if someone does not step up. Central and Ozen do not need as good of coaching because they have LOTS of guys that are natural born athletes. They are big and they are fast and they are strong... That is their advantage,, it is what it is.. Just hand the ball to a big strong fast guy and let him run.. Its just the way the world works.. -
What I was saying is, if your going to have rules about PA announcers supporting their teams respectfully and playing music then you should do the same for the band because they are in the same boat. Agree or disagree that is a fact.
-
Ok then shut up about the PA announcers. "Noise is part of the game" right?? When you play at home your announcer can do the same thing. The kids don't even notice it on the field, trust me I've been there and you cannot hear a thing that the announcer says on Friday Nights. Is it an inconvenience to the fans?? Yes, but you should expect that at someone elses stadium because they are trying to get inside your heads. The same thing happens at college and pro games, they play the music over the speakers and everything.

Nederland Gets An Early Halloween present
formerpirate replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Mid-County fans are full of crap. Before district play every single one of you said that your team was great this year, why jump ship when a couple of good teams beat you??? Teams are getting better, face the facts, it happens all the time. I'm not saying that Ned. and PNG are bad teams, it is just that other teams are getting better and you cannot blow them out like you used to do. Stop the crying saying that "They are not as good as they usually are this year", because they have the just as much talent, other teams are establishing their programs and catching up to you. Get over it. -

Then they need to make a rule about bands too. When Vidor played Central, every time Vidor was about to snap the ball the Central band would start playing extremely loud, even during the play. That makes it hard hearing the cadence from the QB. If they have rules about PA announcer then the same should go for the bands as well.
