Good luck, WO-S. The stadium at Waller is nice, but they will not open the ticket booth until 6:00 PM, even for a 7:00 PM game time. So good luck to the fans to try to beat the Houston traffic but yet not be at the stadium too early. The concession stands are large and quick, but they ran out of a lot of stuff by half-time at the EC game there last week. I think they just underestimated the crowds that a "little 2A school" would bring. And they do not allow fans on the field after the game, so it is very difficult to find a place for friends & family to visit with their player after the game.

What game (s) will you be at this weekend?
Dawg88 replied to Mr. Buddy Garrity's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Friday night at 7:00 will find me in Waller, TX watching the East Chambers Buccaneers take on the Franklin Lions ... frequently checking for updates on the Navasota / Jasper game! -
Glenn is a great kid, both on and off the field. So are all the other Bucs. They realize it takes a team effort and none of them can do it by themselves. Let's Go, Big Bucs! Take those [s]Tigers[/s] Lions by the tail!

Get four of the biggest fire trucks you can find that have the loudest possible horns and park them at the 50 yard line. If you are not allowed on the 50, then the fence line in the End zone is acceptable. If fire trucks are not available, then two freight trains with horns and whistles placed strategically at opposite end of the football field will suffice. When a Teague player does anything that is remotely positive, then blow your horns in unison until a full set of downs is complete. Don't let up... This is very effective if only a few your fans show up to cheer your team. You will need every possible advantage, because Newton is in their STRIDE! ::)
HUH!!! ??? ???
I'm with you Farmer Fran. What does this mean? We do have fire trucks at our games at home. They do blow their horns when we score. But that's it. I don't really know where this is coming from or why. :D
You may want to let the powers at be at Newton know that this is a direct violation of UIL Constitution and Contest Rules 2012-2013 Section 1208 ... (n) MASCOTS, FIREARMS, PYROTECHNIC DEVICES, BALLOONS. Live animal mascots, cannons, firearms, fireworks, etc. are prohibited at League athletic contests. Except in their normal course of business, emergency vehicles shall not flash lights or sound sirens during the course of a game. Noisemakers are prohibited at League athletic events held in field houses and/or gymnasiums. Releasing balloons is prohibited at League athletic events held outdoors. Just at FYI.

That is sad. I know it follows in all sports that people jump on the wagon when things are good. But in small communities like this you'd expect them to support the kids better than that. Win, lose or draw; let the kids know you are proud of them for trying. Put politics and everything else aside!

Area playoff spots still up for grabs
Dawg88 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Would have liked it better if they covered 2A, 1A and six man teams in the area. :-\ -
Does this district use positive and negative points? Is that even possible to only use positive points? Just wondering because the statement above says they go to positive points. That means that Warren is at 0 right? Or do they use negative points as well?
The way I understand it and the way WOSgrad shows in his examples is that "positive points" simply means the points differential in the games amongst the tied teams. Wins add to the points total and losses subtract from the points total, but only including up to 21 points per game.
I thought I explained all this in the first post of this thread. ::) I am sitting here looking at 10-2A DI standings. There is a possibility that 5 teams could end up tied for that 3rd and final spot. Kirbyville is 3-3, Woodville is 3-3, Anahuac is 3-3, Kountze 2-4, Warren 2-4. All 5 could end district at 3-4. If Kirbyville loses to Warren, Anahuac loses to Kountze, Woodville loses to Newton, that would create the 5 way tie for the final spot. Crazy!!! Figure that one out!
Yes, you did. But often times you find yourself forgetting how the topic began by the time you get to the end of it. LOL. Also, I was confusing this thread with another similar thread where several people stated that Woodville was still in the hunt. I don't know about you, but I'm not perfect. My apologies to all who are.
This is what I was think last week when I started the 10-2ADI thread. Don't see it being a five-way tie but it could. Bi-district opponents up North could end up in a four-way tie.... for first. Assuming both Tatum and Troup win this week it would end up as Tatum #1 seed, WO #2 seed and Troup #3 seed.
How do you get there? Troup, Tatum and White Oak are all 3-1 in district. If all three win this week, I can see a 3-way tie but not a 4-way tie. What is your tie-breaker system? If it is margin of victory, wouldn't White Oak be #1 (+10 over Troup), Tatum #2 (+7 over White Oak) and Troup #3 (+4 over Tatum)? And while I don't know a lot about White Oak and Jefferson, they appear to be fairly closely matched. What if Jefferson pulls out the win? Then would it be Troup #1 (4-1 but beat Tatum), Tatum #2 (4-1 but lost to Troup) and a tie between White Oak & Jefferson for 3rd? How would the tie be broken then for the 3rd place spot?
In all fairness to Lamar U they don't run their own concession stand. A private company(forgot the name) has all of LU's food contract and they decide the food, # of employees etc. What is really crazy the contract between the two forces LU to pay for the staff, to man the concessions, so I don't know why the private company would be understaffed.
This is not entirely true. I believe that applies only to LU games. When I have gone to high school games at LU stadium, whether regular season or playoff game, the concessions are run by various organizations which are often non-profit groups. If all you care about are the concessions, stay home.

This is always a good game. A lot of "cousins" on the field and off! LOL. Best of luck to both teams. EC 21 Anahuac 14

Whatever happened to good sportsmanship?
Dawg88 replied to MomSoftball's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I agree with what others have said. Pulling starters in the 3rd quarter when you are up by 21+ is considered good sportsmanship. However, the 2nd and 3rd string kids want to do the best they can, too. So if one teams 2nd or 3rd string is better than the other teams 1st string, there is not a lot you can do about that. It is not fair to tell them not to do their best. You want everyone to do their best. Kids need to learn to accept defeat graciously no matter what. That is one of the best life lessons they can learn through sports. -
Newton by 50 or more. I think the point someone made earlier about resting starters is valid. But Newton has never done that. They just want to run up the score on everyone by as much as they can. One the other hand, it doesn't look like they have all that many players on the bench either.

Silsbee by 21 or more

Kirbyville tends to self destruct and Woodville does not. For that reason I am going with Woodville in this one. However, I do think it will be a good, close game if Kirbyville can keep it together mentally.
For those two guys that asked which dawgs? Well We used both terminologies to describe our school "DOGS" and "DAWGS" which was on our helmet for at least four years.
I think he meant which team? Both Jasper and Carthage have the Bulldog for their mascot. So no matter how you spell it, it could apply to either team.

Another point in all of this malarkey ... When they split DI and DII pre-season for 1A and 2A, we now have completely different districts for football than all other sports / academic districts. So if you have a son playing Football and a daughter playing Volleyball, it is not possible to see both games! Whereas before, the VB schedule followed the FB schedule for the most part. So VB games would be in the gym at say 5:00 or 6:00 in the same place as the FB game would be played later in the evening. Now, you don't even play the same schools so the VB game could be 2 hours away in one direction while the FB game is 2 hours away in an opposite direction. Also, it is not the same as the DI / DII split for 3A - 5A as you are divided at the state level, not just for your district. For example, East Chambers had been to playoffs 16 consecutive years before the pre-season DI / DII split in 2A. Only 1 year out of those 16 did they go DI, the other 15 years they went DII. However, they are now in 2A DI permanently. I agree with everyone that has said it is all about the money. I would like to see numbers on how many total teams made the playoffs back before they started monkeying around with this versus how many total teams make the playoffs now. Overall for the entire state, all classifications. My guess is that it has more than doubled and UIL is still not happy. SMH. UIL should remember "pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered" and not be so greedy.

Class 3A playoff field to expand in 2013
Dawg88 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
If the division is split before the season, would div I teams only be in a district with other div I teams? This will increase travel costs and time for each school. Even if you combine districts 21 and 22 and then split them by school size, it increases the physical size of the district a lot. Why add more cost to already over stretched school budgets?
Yes, that is exactly right. It is already that way in 2A and 1A, where schools have nominal "budgets" at best. So it is really like having 7 classifications already (not including six-man). And now they want 4 teams to advance to "playoffs". What a joke! -
Heavenly Father, cast your shadow over all those on the field tonight and protect them from all harm. Let them give the glory unto You in all that they do. Amen. Psalm 91:1-16 The one who lives under the protection of the Most High dwells in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.†He Himself will deliver you from the hunter’s net, from the destructive plague. He will cover you with His feathers; you will take refuge under His wings. His faithfulness will be a protective shield. You will not fear the terror of the night, the arrow that flies by day, the plague that stalks in darkness, or the pestilence that ravages at noon. Though a thousand fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand, the pestilence will not reach you. You will only see it with your eyes and witness the punishment of the wicked. Because you have made the Lord—my refuge, the Most High—your dwelling place, no harm will come to you; no plague will come near your tent. For He will give His angels orders concerning you, to protect you in all your ways. They will support you with their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the young lion and the serpent. Because he is lovingly devoted to Me, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he knows My name. When he calls out to Me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble. I will rescue him and give him honor. I will satisfy him with a long life and show him My salvation.

That all caps thing being considered yelling is silly to me. My brother is a draftsman and hand "letters" in all caps, so he types in all caps as well. Some people just find it easier to type in all caps rather than worry about punctuation and capitalization and grammar. Sort of like those that like to use LOL, BTW, IMO, etc. instead of typing out the phrases. BTW, I pick EC by 7 or less. :-*
