There will always be differences of opinion but I gotta give some props to 2 small school players.Sells from Woodville and Whittacre from Spurger were 2 of the very best small school players in the area this year.
Well I did not get to see Sells play, but George is Diffently one of the best players in this area, but I think that when he got hurt early in the year it hurt his numbers early, But I just hope some one gives the kid a chance to play at the next level. -
Look, its a '6 in one hand, half a dozen in another" view. Both sides can argue their points of the importance of the number of coaches and their value in the classroom and on the field/court/course/track. The point is, for football, you need at least 2 coaches for OL and DL, EACH! A backs coach, receivers/TE coach. Then DTs, DEs, LBs,and secondary. The OC can coach QBs, and the DC will typically coach ILBs or secondary. All depends on the systems being ran and the number of kids in the program. You can't just say 6 HS and 2 for frosh and JH/MS. 2 coaches can't control 60/70/80...etc kids. No way. You need a minimum of 3 for position purposes. 10-12 for a lot of schools have a crap ton of kids to work with. Its an unfortunate situation that will get worst before it gets better. Our extracurricular activities (Athletics AND Fine Arts) will be taking a big hit. The kids will be the ones to suffer. Larger class sizes, higher student to teacher ratio, and less one on one time with the instructor. No Child Left Behind... What a crock! Wish Rick Perry could sit in a classroom for a day
All Slick Rick is in it for is to make sure Mobile ExXon gets another tax brake. They only made 30 Billion profit last year, and Diesel is now $4 a gallon.

I dont know for sure but I would bet that Gus led in butt. and steals, and that is the only stats that matter to a true point guard. JMO but Gus was the best true point guard in SETX this year.
Oh, I agree that Gus is the best true pg in SETX.... no doubt. But I don't believe that his true worth showed up in the scorers' books. BTW, what is "butt."? ???
;D ;D I dont know what a butt is ;D I put a s s for assist, and looks like the moderator changed it for me ;D -
I could be wrong, but didn't Evadale have about the same team last year and didn't fare well?
They had 3 of the same starters. The ones that were different were Blane and the point guard( who ever they started). But the pressents of a 6'7'' shot blocker inside made a big differents in how teams tryed to match up with them. And as far as them not faring well last year, they made the playoffs ,for the first time in 6 yrs ,and lost there first playoff game in over time. -
I agree that Adam Stark should have been on the Super Gold team, but he is not the only local player playing in the TABC all star game.
Your right about Adam, but this a case were just stats were looked at,and not what he ment to his team. This years Evadale Team was made up of 4 very good players but together they were a verygood team. Deven led the team in scoring, Blane led in rebounds, and led the State in blocks, but was 2 in scoring and 2 in steals . Adam was 3 in scoring 2 in rebounds, and Tucker lead the team in steals,3 in rebounds and had a great State game. I know this is a indivdual award, But Evadale would not have made it past the first round of the playoffs if they had not all pulled together as a team. -
meant to say would do, just think it could be a different atmosphere with other sports involved
I dont understand what your trying to say, because in the 1 and2a schools the coaches have to share the players with all the other sports. In 3a and up you have a lot of kids that only play one maybe 2 sports. And in the smaller schools most of the best players play all the sports.
Wasn't the last coach a head coach @ Lumberton?
You said a mouthfull there. Head Coach At Lumberton ;) They need to be looking for a coach from a winning program , even if he is a assistant now. If they are a lossing coach at any level ,what makes anyone think they can turnaround another lossing program head coach or not ???

In 1A next year I think there will a changing of the guard. I think HD and Big Sandy will fight for the top 2 spots. They were good teams this year with a few Sr. And with Evadale lossing the three big Sr. they will have to play a completely different style of ball next year.
Oak Hill Academy, a basketball powerhouse in Virginia lift on game day. BUT! They also go to the gym 3 times a day and work on their skills. Now schools like HF are far from being an Oak Hill but if they lift on game days then thats a problem. Because that time needs to be in the gym. Most "experts" suggest twice a week weight lifting to maintain. Meaning no added extra weight during the season. You're not trying to produce weightlifters but maintain strength to minimize serious injuries. Actually I'm for the weights but only in moderation during the season.
I to,have no prob. with lifting weights. As long as the weight or to help basketball players, and not trying to make football players. As in pulling truck tires on the football field. Your not trying to make running backs, and do you have any ideal the tork on the lower back of a 6'+ player??? As long as the basketball coach is in charge of the weight lifting I have no prob. but I do have a prob. with a football coach(AD) trying to make football players out of basketball kids>>>> ;)

But, if Warren repeatedly takes the count full, Kountze will be in trouble...Offense wins games, pitching just keeps it close.
Good pitching and defense wins games. A good pitcher will shut down a good offense, more times than not.
You give me one good pitcher, catcher, short stop, and center fielder, and I will beat you 7 out of 10 times. In 1a 2a and 3a ball.

JMO but if you work with a kid on locating his pitches, and not try and throw as many breaking balls. His pitch count wont become a prob. Just look a how long Maddoux, and Glaven lasted. And how many complete games the finished. In most high school teams there will only be 3 or 4 batters that you realy have to deal with. If you can locate you pitches you get by most 6,7,8,9 hitters.

If you have talked with the coach, and voiced your opion on not lifting. Why would you need a note from Dr. Were Im from DAD note trumps Dr note every time.
Good question ;)
I dont know, but maybe it helps to have that talk face to face with the coaches. And maybe it dont hurt when your 6'3'' 240 ;D Come on Dove ,dont send momma, put on the big boy pants, and go have a come to Jesus meeting ;)

Larry: Okay, well, uh... candlesticks always make a nice gift, and uh, maybe you could find out where she's registered and maybe a place-setting or maybe a silverware pattern. Okay, let's get two!
There is no way that you know at what point in the games he scored his points so without knowing something, then why bring it up. Second, it is individual awards vs. teams scenerios you are talking about. Apples and oranges. The only other thing I can tell you is become a coach and you will get a vote.
I would love to do that ,but I cant afford the pay cut ;D ;D But Like I have said, Its just my opinion, To be a MVP you have to play on a winning team ;) -
Props to the kid from Deweyville, anyone who averages 20 points a game against Kountze,EC and Deweyville can play.True , I don't know where you get it's easy for an average player to shine on a bad team, that one loses me.If a team has one capable offensive threat every team they play will scheme their defense to stop him.A good player will always excel on a good team because the really good players make each other better.Talent is talent, that's why you often see kids from mediocre teams play in all star games and light it up.I didn't see Hunter this year but I saw him alot as Fresh and Soph and could tell he was gonna be a very good player then.
OK your giving props for averaging 20 points agains Konntze, EC, Ana. Ok they lost those games by 45 and 50 points. Just how many of those 20 points came in the 4 Qr (garbage points) with the starters from the other teams setting out??
keep the mvp ... well take the wins. .... it just sends a bad message. you are missing the point -- stats dont tell it all - esp ppg. the reason teams win are b/c of other things. so when you dont reward kids from the winning teams its kinda insulting in my book. everyone on board can feel free to diasagree but im a firm believer that the mvp should come from the championship team. copeland included
Were where you at yesterday?? I could not agree with you more. JMO there is no way any MVP can come from a last place losing team ;)Especially when that last place team is getting blew out by 45 and 50 points. The better players on the winning team are setting out of those games, while the best player on the losing team will play the whole game.. -
well said Jumpstop! True, I think you are dead wrong about in order to be an MVP you should come from a winning team.....if that were the case there would not be individual picks, just team picks...right? If a kid is awesome and has awesome stats(better than any other kid in the district) but their team as a whole was not strong, we should punish him or her for that? hmmmmmm....I think you need to really think about what you're saying and also the motive for which you are just "giving your opinion"!
OK just think about what Your saying. A kid that playes on a winning team, that does not have to be the whole team, is being punished for playing on that winning team. But a kid that is the WHOLE team, but that team losses all but one game, is rewarded. Its eazy for a average player to shine on a bad team, but its hard for a good player to shing on a good team ,when you are around other good players. JMO if your the best off. player on the team that only lost 1 game, or even the 3 place team, you should be the dist. off. MVP. Not a player from a team that only won one game. Your saying that I am trying to put down this kid, and all I can say is what about the other kid that should have won this.. ???
all district teams are always innaccurate to a degree ... kids should learn to take pride in their team and not worry about awards. it can kill chemistry. thats why stats should be considered with a grain of salt. coaches with bad teams usually dont worry about anything but getting THEIR kids on -- even if they dont vote correctly ( i.e ) for kids on better teams. ... if you really , really , i mean really want to find out who the best kids are then learn which stats are relevent to winning. hint: its not ppg.
If I read through the lines right I agree with you. Stats on a lossing team, dont mean the same as stats on a winning team. As in Evadales team they had 3 kids that aver. the same 11 points per game. If anyone of them had played on a week team, they could have had 20 points a game. But they did not need to be a one man team, to be a winning team.
