Spurger has Big George and Chase but after that is????? Evadale has 5 Starters returning this year... Should be a great game for the small schools
After watching both clubs this summer I'd take Spurger by a dozen in this match up.Coach Williams will help the Rebels no doubt but Spurger will get the edge when it comes down to basketball players.I have a feeling the Spurger coach will have a few players developed by the time these 2 teams meet.Plus the Pirates will get alot of practice while the Rebels are still playing football.I will put this one on my calendar to watch though.
You may have a point there, the way the Rebs are playing football now , Spurger may get 3 or 4 weeks headstart on the hardfloor. ;) -

This could be a game were the clock has to be run from the first Qr with out stoping. Some said that maybe we could just go fishing and talk about what the score would have been ;D Just hope that no one gets hurt and we can get ready for the playoffs. DONT FORGET THE BUG SPRAY.....
What kind of offense/defense does evadale run?
Thats not a simple Question>>>> They mostly run a one back set with the QB as one of the main runers, but if the Def. walks up the safety to try and stop the run they can spread it out and can throw the ball to a bunch of kids that all can catch and get down the field. Their Def. is mostly 3 4 and play man with the D-Backs. -

All it takes is ONE win to make it in the playoffs. That is piss poor for a playoff team but thats the way the UIL set it up. Just a waste of money, Gas and time.....
I see this district as pretty predictable...the top two are undisputable, as are the bottom two. The only argumentable point that I see is, like always, the all-important 3-4 spot. And WOS is losing a bunch. I gotta say, I'm not being very brave when I call: 1. Silsbee 2. Hardin Jefferson 3. Orangefield 4. WO-S 5. Bridge City 6. Hamshire Fannett
I would not take my eye off of WO-S I hear they have a few kids that have moved in this year and I hear they can realy play ball. And with a new coach that likes to play up temp. game they may make a little noise this year.
I am very familiar with Spurger having carried teams over there and played for years. The will miss Daniel not only as a shooter but as a leader. That being said the young guy they have coaching over there will do a great job of developing the other kids. They have bought in to his system and will come along quickly. The group of kids at Evadale this year are a good bunch of athletes and are successful in all sports.I watched them quite a bit this summer and they hold there own against most schools but the "basketball" clubs give them trouble. You give a good coach 2 really good players (McGallion and Whittacre) at the 1-a level and he'll win alot of games. My biggest concern with Evadale and their new 6'7" center would be team chemistry.I hope everything goes well for him this season but he left Evadale disgruntled as a soph, left EC mid season as a Jr. and left HJ before playing a game. The average fan would have to be skeptical , don't you think ???
I can see were someone from the outside could be skeptical, but if you could know these kids that just not the case. He has played with this group of boys for10 years, and they all respest eash other and they all look to him for leadership , the fact is that they came to him this summer and talked him into comming back and play with them should say something. He was not disgruntled when he left Evadale , just wonted to play with a bigger club to get more exposure. And as far as not beeing physical, last year was the first year to play center, he had played guard and farward his whole life, so the physical play will come this year. He went to camps to work on that this summer. But his lenght did make match up prob. for clubls last year. In the Hardin games last year they had 4 players foulout trying to play him. But we will have to all wait at least 5 more weeks untill we can find out what kind of team they will have. They have at least 4 more football games to play. -

I was kinda surprised to see 3 clubs from the same district that will all be pretty close in talent get together again in the same tournament.True your right about depth several of these clubs do use it to find depth. Unfortunately most of your 1-a schools won't have depth, in my opinion Spurger was probably the only area 1-a school that could have competed with this field. After lookin at the field I 'm gonna take off a couple of days and check this out.
Ok just hear me out on this one. Spurger has the best point guard in 1a and prob. the best farward but after that they get thin. They lost the MVP of the dist in Blankenship, he avrg. 16 points a game last year. He scored 37 points against Evadale. Now Evadale has everyone coming back + thier new 6'7'' center that averg. 9 points and 11 reb at 2a last year. I just think you are selling them a little short. -

Come on it is time to put this horse in the barn. Burkeville needs to get ready to play High Island And Evadale needs to get ready to play the rest of the dist. games. Evadale is lossing a ton of Srs this year so maybe Burkeville will play a better game next year but for now its over. -

The only prob. I see with Spurger playing in this tournament is they have no depth with were little bench play. Their starting 5 can play but in this tour. you need to play alot of games in a short time. I do see them on the Evadale schedule this year, should be a good match up. -
What difference does it make if he was hurt before the game or the Rebels put him out? I would hope that the Rebels would not be the type of team to brag about it even if they did. This young man's health is more important that a 1a football game. These forums really make me wonder about people sometimes. Good luck to both teams and my prayer is that NOBODY gets hurt from either side the rest of the year.
You are missing the point of playing football. You are trying to hit the other player so hard that he goes to the sideline and dose not come back in. Not dirty or cheep shots ,but good hard hitting is all part of the game. Not to hurt someone for the rest of the year but just to get them out of the game for now. -
Dove- Please do tell- Please define "truth" in your last statement. Is the "truth" that HF will be the 2012 state champs? Cant find that in the dicitionary. Is the "truth" that HJ can no longer compete for the top in their district? I think that "truth" is merely the "prognostication" of one who considers himself a purveyor of the "truth". Perhaps the "truth" is the word/words that flow from disenchanted fans/wannabe coaches who again become self appointed "truthsayers". Gee, as far as the subject matter, I am unable to find how the "truth" can be told about future events. Does the trite/hackneyed saying "sometimes the truth hurts" apply to an event that hasn't taken place yet? Excuse me, I must be out of touch. I always thought that the "truth" pertained to events that had already taken place and could, therefore, be substantiated and documented. If the truth is as you(and a couple of others) portray it, then why not contact the UIL and tell them that HF and Silsbee should be, at THIS time, be awarded the top playoff spots. If they ask you why, just tell em "its the truth". I am sure they will happily accept that as formal documentation. And, while you are at it, let them know that all rules have been complied with for the foreign "students". That is the "truth", isn't it.
Okay Stevie. We'll walk on faith and belief. Those two words have brought this nation a long way and I'm sure faith will bring out some truth in your non-believing soul in 2011-2012 season.
Be careful with that "faith and belief stuff". A well know person got his current position promising "change we could believe in". My guess is that the Nov elections may send a strong message that the general public is no longer drinking the kool-aid.
Hold on here! Seems like Stevienash is displaying a little hidden racism here! Watch yourself! Most can read between the lines here!
Hes not a hidden raciss, hes a card carring member of the Tea Party. ;D But wait I think thats the same thing
