Who will win district in 20-4a
GoDogs27 replied to knightrider's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Nederland undefeated... And I predict Vidor to have two losses in district. Watch and see... -
Here is the text from an article by the Houston Chronicle when BCG left Texas A&M for Kentucky. It's an opinion piece and it's creepy how right this guy was:
Good riddance, Billy Clyde. Onward and upward, Aggies. He was a great hire. Let's begin with that basic point. No matter how bitter you are, no matter how betrayed you feel, don't ever forget what Billy Gillispie did for Texas A&M. He left a blueprint for the lucky coach who follows him. Never again should Texas A&M take a backseat to Texas in basketball. That will be Gillispie's legacy. Here's the other thing to know about Billy Clyde Gillispie. He was never going to stay at Texas A&M. Never. If he didn't have a legitimate reason to leave, he was going to invent one. His monstrous ego wasn't going to be satisfied in Aggieland. He wanted more. He has been that way his entire coaching career. Ask some of the people who coached with and against him along the way. Billy Clyde never lacked ambition. Ambition isn't a bad thing, but it can be consuming and alter one's sense of reality. Billy Clyde wants to be mentioned in the same breath as Coach K. or Roy Williams, and he's determined to get there no matter how many times he has to break his word. His word means nothing. He's a liar in the worst sense of the word. He will come up with some reason for leaving Texas A&M, but the bottom line is he gave his word that he would stay when he probably never had any intention of staying. Some A&M officials knew this. They expected him to take the Arkansas job. Even if he decided to stay at A&M, they knew they'd be going through this drama again next year and every year after that until he finally did leave. Gillispie began telling friends a year ago he was dissatisfied with A&M. He believed some promises had gone unfulfilled. In the last few weeks, he told some that he wanted the Arkansas job. The Aggies who are unhappy with him now are missing the point. Gillispie used A&M, but A&M used Gillispie, too. Now there's a roadmap for how to succeed in basketball. Don't worry about the players or the recruits. Sure they committed to a liar. That's the wrong way to look at the thing. They committed to attending school and playing basketball for one of the country's great universities. They're Aggies now and forever. They may have wished they'd signed on with Rick Barnes, but they're going to end up all right. Bill Byrne surely knows this was coming. He gave Gillispie virtually everything he asked for last week and still couldn't get an answer from him. He had to know that Gillispie was either having some kind of identity crisis or simply a liar. I was convinced last week that he was going to leave, but once he issued a pretty definitive statement about the new contract, that seemed to be the end of it. Still, doubts lingered. He never said definitively that he was staying. He never signed the deal. I've heard he didn't sign his previous deal, either, but that's beside the point. The bottom line is that this little man with the smirk and the big ego came to see himself as worthy of Kentucky but not Texas A&M. Don't sweat it, Aggie fan. Bill Byrne will go find another first-rate coach. He'll build on what Gillispie has started. He'll have great facilities and a solid recruiting class, and he might make the A&M-Texas basketball rivalry one of the countries best. Gillispie will attempt to find whatever he's looking for in Kentucky. He won't find it. He'll never find it. The Aggies shouldn't sweat his leaving. He's not worth it.
Vidor begins prep for Nederland
While I agree that this is not likely to be a 2 TD game, but I am having a hard time with all of this talk about how much Vidor has improved, assuming that Nederland has not...does Vidor have the market cornered on off season improvement?
Are you kidding? Vidor has the market cornered on everything. That one-dimensional offense is really going to be a lot different this time around. And Nederland just showed back up after sitting on the couch all summer long while Vidor was going through 8 hours of extreme training every day. No way Nederland has improved, but Vidor, they are some thoroughbreds this year. -
Who gets the most out of their team minus ahtleticism
GoDogs27 replied to tupac7's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Well historically Nederland has done some amazing things with limited athleticism. So normally I would say Neumann and his staff. Losing 3 or 4 QBs and still going to the playoffs is one example of many. He's beaten many teams, especially in playoffs that Nederland was getting killed by on paper. This year it's a little different because Ned is so talented athletically. I would go with Vidor this year. Point of inquiry: How many years has Matthews been at Vidor? -
You either have the will to be a champion or you dont. I don't feel sorry for these types of athletes. He is old enough to know what he could be throwing away so I don't blame the parents either or lack thereof. Sometimes the person is just too lazy, unmotivated, or just doesn't really care. Whatever it is, every person his age is faced with choices. Do I study an extra hour tonight for this exam or go cruise the town with buddies, do I practice trombone or play video games, etc. You can say well he's a good kid that's made poor decisions, but at some point you have to rethink that and maybe he just can't stay out of trouble.. We are all responsible for decisions we make. No sympathy at all from me..
Yes i was talking about 84. And why do you say he needs to work on getting off the line better? You have obviously not seen him. He is the fastest TE i have seen in a while. And i'm not worried about Stampley and Taylor. We can handle them just fine. Question for your offense if you get past our front four then you have Quirante, Godeaux, Cooper, Whitmire, Rodriguez, and Thomas to get by and that is no easy task to do buddy. And we also have players that you didn't see last year. One being a sophomore that is 6'3" 245.
You must have forgotten who we played last week. #3 Angleton doesn't exactly have scrubs back there on defense and we put up 31. 24 if you discount the defensive TD. If Vidor has a better defense than Angleton, I would be completely shocked...

What's with the chip on the shoulder?
GoDogs27 replied to GoDogs27's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
-1.. I laughed when I read what Mathews said because he's very smart. I wasn't ridiculing him. It would not have benefitted him any for him to say that "yeah, we know we are the better team. Just gotta go and take care of business." I never once said that Mathews doesnt have respect for Nederland or vice versa. It's a smart move though. The chip is not imagined. I can read posts and other people can too. Fact is, there were a lot of posts demanding respect. I get it, you want your team recognized for their achievements. But when you're at the top it's harder to gain respect by demanding it. You gain respect simply because you are the top and you've proven you deserve to be there. That goes for Vidor, Nederland, Dayton, WO-S, or any team. -

Mark my word. If Vidor beats Ned, I will not make any excuses. Simply because I believe Nederland has the caliber of team to beat by Vidor to beat them by two scores or more. I will certainly give credit where credit is due. -

Nederland will definetly have 8 in the box and sometimes 9.
That could burn em in the end.
Just because you have crowded the line of scrimmage doesn't mean you can't cover recievers trying to release.
That's the key. As long as your defensive backs remember their number one priority, Ned can still stack the box. Last year Vidor released the TE and Montana put it right on the money without a DB in sight. As long as Spell preaches that this week, the Dogs shouldn't get burned. Quirante can put it on the money though so they better remember the pass. I'm sure that is going to be a focus of this week. I believe that's the only way Vidor beats Nederland, by catching them off guard. I just think Ned has too much size and speed defensively to be overpowered by the run.
GoDogs27..lol I think that Vidor is living rent free in your head right now..... ::)
May be, but what's the difference in Nederland living rent free in the heads of some Vidorians for decades? My inquiry was to why Vidor doesn't just enjoy the success instead of always demanding respect from other cities. It wasn't meant as a sleight in any way. I wouldn't quite classify that as anyone being in my head. That usually require paranoia. And nothing will be free in 10 days. -
Dogs27, you've taken plenty of shots at Vidor, along with plenty of Ned. and PNG fans. There is a few Vidor fans that seem to over excited about the upcoming season. But it is threads like this that Ned. fans seem to start every single year this website has been around, and at some point you get tired of hearing it. But I can PROMISE you this, Newman and company and the Dog Pound has plenty of respect for Vidor football. And that my friend you can take to the bank. See ya Sept 28, 2012. Lets have good clean injury free game. Good luck.
You should probably read posts before commenting. Either that or you just aren't capable of processing what's being posted. Smack talk is all part of it and I understand that. It comes from all sides. But I don't believe everyone is "taking a shot" at Vidor in regards to not giving them the respect they deserve. I said before the year started that 20-4A was a better district when Vidor is relevant. You can't please everyone and not every person is going to give certain teams respect, but I don't feel like I have said anything to take away what Vidor has accomplished. As for threads like this being started every year, I don't recall them, but that's a chicken and egg issue if that's the case. It's an observation and an inquiry. Not a reason to get all knotted up over. I like it when Vidor has a great team, it makes Nederland better win or lose. Just don't understand how so many people can give respect to Vidor and still some fans seem to have a complex about it. Heck, even the pollsters on this board think you're better than Nederland. You win. -
I can understand where they are coming from. 1st... people were saying that their first preseason games were not a test..cause you know those teams were not that good...but Clearbrooks gonna be a test...yep that will prove your worth. Well they dispatched that team hands down....and now thats being thrown back in their face to. But what do I know...I'm just a fan of a "Toilet Bowl" team whose season is down the tubes before it has even started.
That's sort of my point. I have no idea about their team, but I was impressed at the way they handled CB. A lot of people gave Vidor props and kudos last year and this year so far. -
Thank you for that unnecessary "lecture". ::)
You're welcome! Anytime! Not really a lecture. People are going to do what people want to do. Just trying to understand where it comes from. Maybe I am wrong but I feel like that's all I see on here. -
I don't understand why nearly every post I read about Vidor seems to have a glaring overtone to it; which is nobody respects us, nobody gives us credit, nobody believes in us, Mathews isn't respected etc. Get over it already. I think most people have given credit where credit is due. Vidor fans seem to have this complex they can't get rid of. You have a great program going right now. Enjoy it instead of constantly trying to defend it. You may not have the tradition and history of programs like WO-S, PN-G, Ned, etc., but that doesn't mean people don't respect what Vidor has been doing over the last few years, which is building a good program. There is quite a bit of animosity toward Nederland and MC fans in general from some Vidor fans and I am not sure where it comes from. This isnt new either. It was this way even back when Vidor was a doormat. I don't know if it stems from the rivalry complex or what, but it seems almost childish at times. I know a lot of what's said is general smack talk, and I can definitely understand and appreciate that aspect, but enjoy the ride and don't get lured in to traps. Act like you've been there before. Let Friday nights do the talking, not who beat who by how many points in X amount of overtimes, etc. Nobody can dispute whether or not Vidor is a step up from where it's been in the past. Can Vidor sustain it and become a tradition-rich program? Only time will tell, but trying so desperately to demand respect overnight from everyone isn't going to get you there.

Toilet Bowl - Lumberton at PN-G, Who ya got???
GoDogs27 replied to GoBigBlue1997's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Some of these remarks are just down right cruel. It's not very sportsmanlike to kick a someone when they are down and that applies here. These are still kids we are talking about. I am the biggest PNG hater of them all. I'm not one of those MC fans that will pull for PNG as long we aren't playing them. I hate everything about PNG and I don't mind admitting that. That being said, I am not going to bash any team when they've had a rough start and have enough problems to worry about. I'm taking PNG by as much as they want. -
Nederland-Vidor showdown looms
GoDogs27 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
It's obvious what Matthews is doing. The is coach talking point 101 before a good game: talk about how great your opponent is and how dominant they are, etc. That way, if you pull off the upset, your program looks even better. And if you happen to lose, you were supposed to. It's classic. As soon I saw his comments I had to bust out laughing. Most coaches aren't as transparent with it, but Mathews went overboard with the pomp for Nederland. Lol -
Vidor vs. Nederland 9-23-11 Predictions

I have no inside knowledge, just pure speculation but I think Spell will consider a 4-4 this week. I think we've also ran a 4-2-5 quite a bit as well? But with the limited passing by Vidor, he may consider putting 8 in the box.
Yes!!! That was the name! I remember, is that guy a force to be wreckoned with?
They both are. Couron is 6'3 - 235 lbs. and Washington is 6'4 - 275 lbs. The talk about Nederland's defensive front is for real. Vidor is in for a tall task. Not saying they aren't up to the challenge but they are going to have their hands full..
-
I don't think Vidor's defense is quite the caliber as Angleton's. Angleton is one of the elite teams in the state. If Ned protects the ball well, they can put up some points. The Ned offense is much better now than when they played Vidor last year. I'll take the Dogs in this one. And I don't think it'll be as close as a lot of people think. I truly believed that Ned could beat Angleton, but if someone told me before the game that Ned would turn the ball over five times and still be a two-point conversion away from taking the lead late in the 4th, I would've said they were crazy. Nederland 31 Vidor 14

NEDERLAND AT ANGLETON BROADCAST/Angleton wins 39-31!!
GoDogs27 replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Wow. What a show of determination by Nederland. Coming out and having four turnovers in the 1st quarter would've shut down a lot of teams but they fought and fought and came very close to a win against an incredible Angleton team. I think going for 2 was absolutely the right call. It was raining Cats and Dogs out there tonight! (pardon the pun). I'm very glad I made the long drive, it was well worth it. Very proud of this team, they deserve a top 10 spot in the polls. Good luck wildcats.
