1. Better strap those chinstraps on tight BH.. You know we arent too fond of anything with feathers over here in Nederland..
 2. Ok guys relax and dont get so defensive. 75% of my posts were just to get you riled up a bit. I am really not as 'childish' as it may seem other than trying to get a spark going. I know what kind of positive influence Matthews has had on Vidor, and I sincerely believe he is doing a lot to get that program turned around and heading in the right direction. Again, I do not like him on the field. There is a fine line between passionate and over the top, but he sounds like a helluva coach, AD, and person in general.
 3.
How did this thread become about Nederland/Vidor?
I was wondering the same thing.... some people from vidor just cant help themselves.. it always has to be about Nederland.. get my point now?
 4.

Haha riiiiiiight...  I hate when we have to play Vidor. Not because its Vidor who seems to think of Nederland as a rival, but because I don't get home until 1 a.m. Someone should tell him the games would go a little faster if he kept his &%# on the sidelines..
This was a positive thread created to pay respect to a man who has done a lot for the community of Vidor and the entire athletic program here, not just football.  It was somehow hijacked by GoDogs27 who started a debate on whether Vidor/ Ned was a rivalry or not.  Real classy post by the way.  Anyway, back to point of the thread.  Jeff Mathews means a lot to this town and our kids, and I hope we have him around for a very long time.
Don't cry or pout about it. Whoever started the thread claimed he was the best AD in 20-4A. Of course this was his or her opinion, which is completely acceptable. But I, as a member of this forum, have the right to express my opinion as well as long as I do not break any rules. My opinion is that he is not the best AD or coach in 20-4A. So just because the thread was meant to be positive, nobody can counter the post? I may have some more respect for him if he showed more class on the field. As far as the rivalry thing, all I did was include that in my post but it was never the point behind my post. Other vidor people got offended by me saying that nederland doesn't consider them as a rival and started debating that. There's no debate to it though, its just the way it is. As I said, I'm sure he's a class act off the field. But I can't respect him for acting like a crybaby on the field.
 5. It ruins our season when Vidor beats us?? I hate to tell you, but we set our sights higher than the Vidor Pirates. We got beat last year by Vidor with a lot of starters out and ended up still making the playoffs. I was there for the game and we didn't get "spanked" but I guess anytime Vidor beats anyone by at least two points its considered a spanking. I will be the first to agree that Matthews has been a positive influence on VHS athletics. I also have no reason to believe that Matthews isn't a class act... off the field. But on the field he's a Dan Hooks wannabe. As far as my comment about Vidor being relevant, they aren't yet. At least not in football. Yeah you may beat Nederland a couple of times a decade, congrats. But year in, year out the teams that are talked about as the top playoff contenders are Central, PNG, and Nederland in no particular order.
 6.
Hey GoDogs27, we hadn't beaten ya'll in football ever until 1976. Now, you are a rival and we beat you on a regular basis, like last year. Jeff wouldn't spend so much time on the field if you weren't playing with 13 players including the ones in black and white stripes like in 2009. Sorry, your first TD was 10 yards out of the end zone. And, since we play in Bulldog Stadium this year, we'll probably be there until 1:00 a.m. again. Looking forward to a great game. Go Pirates!!!
Newsflash: Nederland does not consider Vidor to be a rival. We still don't even consider Vidor to be relevant. And Vidor bets Nederland on a consistent basis? What constitutes a "consistent basis"? How many time over the last 10-20 years? How many playoff appearances?  Vidor gets hyped up to play Ned every year for some reason. Rest assured, we have our own rivalry game to contend with..

 8. I heard on KTRH that the great and wonderful CONGRESSWOMAAAAAANN Sheila Jackson Lee, aka the most embarassing person in Houston, got the North Forest closure blocked.. I assume she screamed Racism! and people got scared.. Edit: Changed Shore to Forest. Cut me some slack, I had been at work all night and was super exhausted lol. Thanks for catching that mistake though octfeb..
 9. Lol excuses are already starting to pile in.. Do you even know what chapter is being used? I'm sure there will be bad calls both ways, as there is in most games, if not all. I just hope you come up with a better excuse saturday morning..
 10.
Most PNG fans are obnoxious and rude? Really? Brenham is the poster child for arrogant fans. I don't really care if you pull for us or not.You are the one that called Faircloth a fluke.I doubt you guys get knocked out early again, Brenham is  loaded... GoDogs27...It doesn't matter if PNGFan is focused on TC or not. I am sure our players and coaches are very focused this week. Most PNG fans respect your program and what Neumann has done there. It is so early in the season, it is hard to tell who has what at this point. Ya'll are 2-0 and we are 1-1, so I won't be talking trash on ya'll.I was impressed that ya'll beat WOS...that is a tough team to open up with.
I respect your opinions and agree that its way too early. I have many friends and relatives from the PNG community and as I said, not everyone is the obnoxious type. Its a forum and I gave my opinion on the game and the PNG squad SO FAR this season and one of the obnoxious ones loses it and starts trashing Nederland. Its a knee jerk reaction that happens to both ned and png fans. My intention was never to start mcm a few weeks early lol. As I said, I want png to prove something to me this week.. Still gonna give a slight edge to TC..
 11.

No doubt Crosby has some talent. They were definitely better than us the two previous years. Our defense wss terrible those two years, last in district I believe. The reasoning behind my expectations for PNG to beat them wasn't because I thought Crosby was super weak, it was because of all the hype surrounding this PNG squad. The first week dominance against GP seemed to solidify that sentiment for me, however I didn't realize that GP was so weak this season. I hope PNG shows me something this week and takes it to TC..
And let me see. The refs gave Nederland the win versus WOS, then Big Ned beat a VERY week Goose Creek team. I can see where you guys think your unbeatable.
UNBEATABLE?? What does this have to do with Nederland? Its comments like this that remind me why I hear the term "obnoxious png fans" all the time. Picking a team against PNG is the end of the world. I thought this was a thread about PNG vs. TC? Not Nederland vs. WOS.. Although you are too ignorant to realize it, referees are part of the game. I still believe he got in but that doesn't matter, its over with. Better start focusing on Texas City instead of what Nederland is doing or you'll be 1-2. God forbid Nederland be 2-0 and PNG be 1-1 or this is what happens. And no I don't think all PNG fans are like this, but there's a lot that are, so don't take it personally Brenham Fan..  PNG fans have a hard time accepting things sometimes and make themselves look extremely ignorant when people don't kiss their behinds..

 13. Agreed.. Lumberton is not a .500 team by any stretch of the imagination. 1 or 2 wins at best and I mean no disrespect to the raiders but that's my honest opinion. Nederland is not a possession type of offense. More so this season than the past few, but they have the ability to score so quick that your defense better stay on their toes.. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is the speed of the Nederland receivers. Nederland got behind the secondary of WO-S and GCM on several occasions. Hesitate for half a step and you are toast..
 14. Whoever said WOS sucks and always has should just delete their profile and move on to something else. All that does is flaunt ignorance. If Nederland only puts up 14 against BH then I will move on to something else. NO WAY BH has the caliber of defense as WOS.. Again I say.. 38 points
 15.

I initially thought this might be a close one. After taking everything into account, the Dogs win this one big, by 20 or more. First home game of the season, the house will be rockin. The running game for Nederland is good, not great, but if BH has a slow defense, watch out. I use the term slow loosely, after WO-S who is lightening fast and GCM who has some speed, I think Nederland will be able to attack at line of scrimmage much better. As for the passing game, Raines through the air to Shaw all night. Biggest weakness is kickoff coverage, if we've improved that this week, its going to be a loooooong night for BH. Score: Nederland-38 BH-10o Shaw all night. Biggest weakness is kickoff coverage, if we've improved that this week, its going to be a loooooong night for BH. Score: Nederland-38 BH-10
If BH doesnt turn the ball over its gonna be hard to put up 38 with the ball control O that BH runs  ;)IMO
Not sure how Goose Creek compares to BH, but they ran the ball for most of the night. I think they only had four passes if my memory is correct. Ball control O requires long drives and continually making first downs. If Barbers Hill is that one-dimensional, we can stack the box and I would feel comfortable with our secondary. Ned has the ability to stuff the run all night...
 16. Not sold on the tribe this season yet. I feel like they shouldve taken Crosby to the woodshed. Didn't see either of the first two games but listened to some of both, and not sure what happened in the second half last week but that was lots of scoring. I know the NDNs can put up some points, but have they played a 7 or 8 win opponent yet? My bet would be no. I am gonna go with Texas City by 6... TC - 27 PNG - 21

 18. We will find out Friday how they match up when Barbers hill comes to Nederland. Should be a good game... I agree with previous posts that Dayton has the overall edge but 20-4A's depth is better..
 19. WO-S probably had more passing yards though. I could be wrong so don't hold me to it. GCM never really did anything through the air and stuck to the ground most of the game. Its a good way to put up impressive rushing yard stats but with only 45 yards passing, it makes you pretty one-dimensional..
 20.
Neither Ned  nor LCM were very  impressive on the defensive side of the ball. I would give LCM the advantage on offense because of their RB. It looks to me that the top tier 19-4a teams are ahead of 20-4a. Friiday's BH-Ned game will be a good measuring stick for both teams and districts.
I'm a lot more impressed by our defense this year than I have in previous seasons. We will get Pryor back so that will help. Frankly, as long as our offense puts up more points than our defense allows, I'm satisfied. I don't see how you can say our defense wasn't very impressive. Our kickoff coverage was poor and GCM started with good field position nearly every possession, near midfield.. If you give the other team half of a field to work with and they only come away with 20 points, you're getting the job done. Neumann needs to spend some extra time with special teams this weak.. And LCM the advantage on offense? Call me a homer, but nederland put up 38 on GCM. I'm not sure exactly how many LCM put up, but I thought it was in the 20s?
 21. Great game for Big Ned.. Defense looked solid and the offense was pretty explosive tonight. Another good night for Shaw. Offense looked much improved since the WO-S game. Granted GCM's defense is no chain gang defense. Nederland needs improvement in kickoff coverage. Its been an achilles heel the past few years..
 22. Nederland - 35;  GCM-14
 23. As for the officiating.. Nederlands had its fair share, I assure you.. Here's a quote by a famous high school football coach after officials called an obvious forward pass a lateral: "The good Lord giveth, and the good Lord taketh away." -Dan Hooks
