1.
Still wish we would go back to the old days where only district champs moved on, maybe two. Anything can happen in a 1 game series which is not fair to the consistant teams, not to mention chance of injuries and cost for families who really can't afford it. Just like pro sports it's all about the money. I go to all high school sports, football, basket ball, baseball, track you name it. Just doesn't seem right when a 2-8 team has the chance to beat a 10-0 team. Look through the state playoff pools and see how crazy it is for some of these teams to even be considered being in the playoffs and having the chance to take down a team that played steady all year. Oh well rules are rules, good luck to all, please respect the kids who do win and lose and hope for no injuries!
I wonder if PNG fans will say the same thing when they are third in district... Bottom line, if you are truly the best, then it doesnt matter who is in front of you, you will win the state championship... Why not allow more kids the oppurtunity to be in the playoffs? As a former player, my most memorable moments were from our playoff games. I can remember those games like they were yesterday... Its pretty special.. My point is this.. Yea PNG has had a great run this year and I wish them the best of luck in the playoffs.. But look at it in another perspective.. Imagine for a minute if that chaos wouldnt have happened in the Central game and Central came out on top. If only one team goes, then it wouldve been central because they wouldve won heads up... Now does that seem fair for a team to go 9-1 and miss the playoffs?
2. I am looking for Coach Spell to have that defense ready... They are steadily improving and causing more chaos in the backfield... Also look for Coach Barrow to mix it up on offense... Just hope he doesnt try and get too cute... BIGGEST KEY SATURDAY: Turnovers... If nederland wins the turnover battle, they will win this game.. If the OLine can give Forney a second or two more, he can take care of the football and deliver strikes all night.. If the OLine fails to do this, itll be a long afternoon of sacks, fumbles, and INTs... Dogs MUST win the turnover battle...
For what it's worth DCTF Sportswriters playoff predictions staff of Stewart,Hall,Padilla,Forrest have 19-4A Dayton/Crosby in the regionals-Dayton in the qtr.final-In either div.no 20-4A past round 2.Just a messenger.
They also predicted Vidor to win District 20-4A, Lumberton to make the playoffs, and Nederland to miss the playoffs.. No offense to Vidor or Lumberton, I am just making a point that I think Dave Campbell's is full of you know what sometimes... No I dont expect them to make every right prediction, that would be impossible. But its been my experience that they are wrong more often than right... I am looking forward to a 20-4A sweep this weekend!
4.
Here I thought 27 was the year he graduated ;D
i graduated from nederland in 2004.. my football number was 27.. obviously trahan isnt my son
5. from what i hear, Trahan has got some BIG name schools looking at him.. schools like it when they can get a kicker/punter combo.. he is a true talent..  most talented player at his position that ive seen..
6.
PNG vs BH Central vs GCM Crosby vs NED Dayton vs Vidor I took Crosby for the pure fact that they have been on a role lately.  But, if they havent improved much since playing PN-G (Not sure if district is just that weak), they will lose.
what about the roll nederland is on? youre just a dog hating png fan.. its ok to admit it.. 20-4A takes 3 out of 4 with vidor losing to Dayton
7. they went undefeated in a weak district.. im not that impressed..  especially since png thumped them earlier this year
8.
Don't know much about the vidor team.  If the run is their bread and butter then they might have a little trouble moving the ball against the broncos.
Lets put it this way.. Vidor completed 1 pass in 4 attempts against Nederland... The run is definitely their game..
9.
rice lets try somthing closer like home for home or png-dayton would be fair.
Yea but Rice is our home away from home.. we've done very well there in the past... there really is no middle ground.. And Neumann usually doesnt go for Home/Home flips.. He shoots for neutral ground.
10. Pulling for Vidor in this one, but I have some serious doubts... Dayton just needs to stack 9 or 10 in the box and theyll have this in the bag. Vidor will throw in some play action, but they dont do it often. Vidor will HAVE to pass the ball and pass it well to take this one from Dayton. Dayton 42- Vidor 21
11. Ned wins this one 27-21
12. Good luck to PNG.. Lets show them what 20-4A football is all about.. as if they havent had enough ;D
13. Here are my thoughts from the game... Our defensive front has a lot to be proud of. They got in the backfield a lot and caused some chaos. I still see some problems with our pass defense, which has been our weakness for a few years now. We need to get it together or a team that passes well will shred us. Overall, I think our strongest area is Special Teams by far! Trahan has got to be in the running for player of the year for Nederland. I know you dont want to punt the ball a lot, but when we have to, he does a great job at it. Not only punting, but on kickoffs as well.. I think everytime Trahan kicked off tonight it was a touchback.. That says a lot when a high school kicker is kicking it 5-10 yards deep in the endzone each time. He also kicked a 48 yarder that was most likely a 55-60 yarder. On Offense, we struggled a bit tonight. i am glad we did not get away from the run game though. The running game came through big time in the second half. Hats off to lovelady on a great game. Forney had a lot more pressure than I like to see. If he gets a little more time, he does well at stepping into the pocket and delivering. I dont like to see him rolling out, because he is less accurate on the rollout. I wouldve liked to see a couple more deep balls to Brady. Lumberton had single coverage on him most of the night and if Dionte can get more time, he couldve hit Brady deep a lot more. I was also impressed with Schlett at wideout. He is a very underrated receiver and they need to go to him more. Salenga is talented athletically, but he scares me as a punt returner. I think he should be used more for handoffs and wildcat formations instead of receiving. He dropped a lot of balls tonight. Pretty good play calling by Barrow tonight. I think a few more crossing patterns wouldve been nice, it seemed open several times. All in all, the O Line needs to tighten up and give Forney just a couple more seconds and we can make some plays out there. Receivers can't drop balls though.
14. any word on nederland and crosby? im hoping for a saturday game at rice ;)
15. The playoff scenario thread can't be right.. Here is what I mean: 20-4A Who's in: Port Neches-Groves, Beaumont Central Who can clinch:    Vidor with a win, Nederland with a win OR a Vidor loss and an Ozen loss Lumberton with a win and a Ozen loss Livingston with a win and a Lumberton loss Ozen with a win, a Livingston loss and a Nederland loss How can Nederland go (even with a loss to Lumberton) if Vidor and Ozen lose? The reason why I ask this is because it says that Lumberton can go with a win against Nederland and an Ozen loss. So if Vidor, Ozen and Nederland lose, then does Nederland or Lumberton go? Someone is confused... I think we are all really confused..
16. if my memory serves me correctly, it does not go to a head to head tiebreaker, it goes to the points tiebreaker. which is a point differential among common opponents. correct me if im wrong. im no expert. just a former player
17. i give props to the vidor fans with class. i do get tired of hearing the excuses from the classless vidor folks though. i know the stats were close but nederland dominated this game. hard fought on both sides but the dogs  couldve won by 10 or more. vidors primary problem this year is that they are so one dimensional and thats easy to prepare for . if vidor wants playoffs then they are going to have to throw the ball
18. Nederlands playoffs started last week. they just got to handle lumberton next week
19. Dogs are starting to click. Forney is stepping up big time. dogs win this one by ten and punch their ticket to the playoffs..
20. Wont matter if he comes out of his shell or not... he looks for the quickest path to the sidelines every time he touches the ball... i know i cant be the only one thats noticed this...
21. To be completely honest, I would be surprised if Nederland comes away with another win this year. This is extremely disappointing. I hate being on the losing end of things, and those of us in Nederland have been so used to winning that we forget what losing feels like. A couple of quick comments here... First, we have a big problem with our Pass Defense. Its been a sore spot for a couple of years now. So hint hint PN-G, if you want to beat us, just throw it deep on us.. Trust me, you will connect. Secondly, why are we in a shotgun formation if the ball can't get snapped to the quarterback without it going ten feet over his head. How many times this year have we gotten decent field position and then had a terrible snap? only to set us back 10+ yards. And lastly, why are trying to run a version of the wildcat offense when we can't even run a simple sweep to perfection? I know I am being a saturday morning quarterback here, and I am not a coach, but at some point fans have the right to question some things, and I think that time has come. I have a feeling ts going to be ugly next friday.
22. There is an X-Factor here that goes far deeper than just the injuries. That x-factor is this team's motivation and determination. Nederland is not used to losing, and maybe we have been spoiled by teams of the past. When Smith had the flu, I saw a glimpse of this teams lack of determination against Friendswood. They came out flat from the beginning. Now that they have lost him again, they have lost that spark that he provided after the Waller game. Bottom line is, you can't expect a third string quarterback to lead a team to victory, especially in the environment of MCM. I expect a lot of Nederland turnovers in this one. And how about we try and run a sweep play without fumbling before we start trying to run versions of the wildcat. To be completely honest, I would be surprised to see this team win another game this year. I will probably be scolded by some Nederland folks for this, but it's an honest prediction based on what I have seen so far this year. PN-G by 24
23. A ticket will be very hard to come by.. when they go on sale to the public, people camp out the night before they go on sale outside of the school waiting for tickets.. at least they do at nederland and I would assume they do the same at PNG
24. Nederland finally getting to be an underdog again... Its right where we belong and where we play our best. Here kitty kitty.....
25. key points... Reflecting from what I saw Friday night at Friendswood: I saw a deflated team from the moment they stepped foot on the field. Having to overcome losing their starting quarterback in week 1, then coming away with a big win against waller, then losing Smith going into a tough game on the road. Its been an emotional roller coaster for this ball club so far. I did not see much heart out there friday night. It was almost like they just wanted to get to district play as healthy as possible. That said, Smith will be back at the helm and he gives this team a lot of confidence. I dont have a problem with the spread offense, I just have a problem with the play calling at times but then again im not a coach. I think we need to let Smith stretch out his arm some more to Brady. Brady is usually against single coverage, and I trust him on a jump ball everytime. This team will peak at the right time. Neumann's teams always do. Got a lot of work to do on defense but we will be just fine going into district. Nederland has got some real talent people, just need some adjustments. Nederland by 10
