5. The Baseball Academy wanted to let everyone know about our upcoming 2011 Fall League & our 2012 Commissioner's Cup next March (Little League & Pony Divisions). 2011 Fall League @ Ford Park Our fall league will again be open to everyone (no select teams).  Kids will be able to sign up with their pony/dixie/little league if they participate or signup at the Baseball Academy (or online www.setexasbaseballacademy.com).  We had over 320 kids last year from every league in the area and this year we will add T-ball for ages 5 & 6.  League is open for ages 5-12 as of April 31, 2012.  So if you are 4 now, but turn 5 before April 31 of next year, you can play t-ball.  All games are going to be Sunday doubleheaders for ages 7-12 & 1 game for TBall.  Game times will be 1:00PM, 2:40PM & 4:20 PM to accomodate church.  Registration will begin in August.   2012 Commissioner's Cup @ Ford Park Next March after all the local pony/dixie/little leagues have drafted teams, we are going to host the first annual Commissioner's Cup.  It will be a tournament for all the local league teams.  We will have one division that plays little league rules & another that plays pony rules.  It will be a great opportunity for teams to get some preseason games in, play games against other leagues & find out who the best local league team is to start the season.  We plan on making this an annual event & really trying to get the community involved.  We will have big trophies for the winners & get the media out there to cover the event.  Details are still being determined, but the initial plan will be to make the tournament a 2 game guarantee.  If you win your first game, you go to the championship bracket, otherwise its the consolation bracket.  From there you would play a single elimination tournament.  We would like to work with all the league boards and find a date that can accomodate any team that wants to play.  We would also like their help in making sure that each team that enters uses its league roster. More details to come, but i would aprreciate any feedback. thanks. Jason Tyner www.setexasbaseballacademy.com [email protected]

7. it should be good.  the main change was with all the coach pitch bats & making them heavier.  Something needed to be done, unfortunately, they should have made the rule changes right after last spring.
8. As with most other organizations, Nations has issued their rule change for approved bats effective immediately.  These rules will be enforced at tournaments & league play out at Ford Park. Rule Change for Approved Bats Big barrel bats (2 3/4' or 2 5/8') are legal if they are -10 or heavier If a bat is lighter than -10 and has a two piece design (composite shaft with alloy barrel) it must be 2 1/4 barrel and have a BPF 1.15 certification or it is not legal (no big barrel). If the bat is lighter than -10 it may not be a full composite bat regardless of barrel size All Alloy bats that are lighter than -10 are legal Ron Mathis, South Texas State & Regional Director of Nations Baseball

12. I prefer coach pitch at that age because there are not enough 8 year olds that can throw strikes.  Coach pitch games have a lot more flow & keep the kids in the game. This fall our coach pitch league at Ford Park had 1:15 time limits and there were very few games that didn't play a full 6 innings.  At that age, most kids are afraid of getting hit by the ball causing them to step out.  That fear is not as bad in coach pitch.  The ball is always in play in coach pitch, letting the kids develop defensive & baserunning skills as well.  Kid pitch at the young ages has to many walks & strike outs & very little flow to the game. thanks. Jason Tyner
13. Major Leaguers Jay Bruce & Casey Fossum will be at the camp.  Still have spots available.  You can register at the Academy the day of, but please pre-register online so i can make sure i have the right shirt sizes.  www.setexasbaseballacademy.com thanks.
14. Update:  around 40 spots remaining.

17. Send my partner at the Baseball Academy, Morgan Walker an email and he will take care of you.  [email protected] .  He can answer any questions you might have.  Generally, tournaments at Ford Park start up in early February.  Insurance & registering your team is all done through Nations, as stated in the earlier post.
18. Glad you guys enjoyed it & feel like your kids have gotten better.  All these kids are capable of playing regular baseball rules & i think it helps them learn the game faster.  Hopefully everyone enjoyed the season and i look forward to a very competitive Sunday.  Please feel free for anyone to email me, [email protected] , on any suggestions to make the league better.  We are already talking about extending the season to 12-14 games next year & adding a 5 & 6 year old t-ball division as well. I want to thank all my umpires for helping teach the kids the game.  And i want to thank all my parents & coaches for their hard work & for keeping the atmosphere fun & laid back.  It really has been a lot of fun for me to get to watch these kids play. FYI, Jay Bruce is going to try to make it out there Sunday, so you might want to stash something in your bag for him to sign.
19. A good percentage of these kids have never played real baseball rules, so i wanted to make sure everyone had a chance to win a championship.  Kids that played pony or select had a big advantage running the bases going into the season.

Jason Tyner
