Final Regular Season AP Poll, all classifications
Hotrodg replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
There is also the simple fact that polls/rankings like this are people's subjective opinions of which are the better teams. A head to head win does not always change those opinions. It is also true the "best" team does not always win. (Thankfully..think about it..if this were not the case football would not be all that entertaining.) An example: USC has a loss to 3-6 Washington. Does that mean Washington should be ranked ahead of USC? A different example: Last year the Pittsburg Steelers were defeated head-to-head by the Eagles, Giants, Colts, and Titans. Does that mean those four teams should have been ranked ahead of the Steelers? Maybe, maybe not. It depends on your opinion. That is the beauty of the UIL system though. Like the NFL, and unlike the NCAA BCS, polls and rankings mean jack squat. We have a playoff and a champion is crowned. People can still debate who is "best" but there can be no doubt about who is the champ. -
Are you guys going to do a final? Will you continue to poll and publish in the playoffs?
-
You won a second in a row and put us in the "just you wait until next year" role. It is unfamiliar and tastes bad. Go represent the district well in the playoffs.
Awesome game to both teams. A very hard fought battle between two classy teams. Good luck to both in the playoffs. As for the fans blaming the refs you are sore classless losers and have no business being involved in high school football.
I agree there is no call for the ref blame..but I don't think name calling is warranted...particularly not from a moderator. For the record the difference in this game was NOT refs it was the unforced errors the Eagles made. (i.e. 3 fumbled snaps, throws into coverage, the horse collar that turned 4th and goal into first and goal and resulted in the go ahead score..) Kirbyville capitalized on those in several cases and that is how games like this are won and lost. Hats off to the Wildcats.

Uhm...I'm from newton and I wouldnt throw any visitor press box stones too hard. yeah we upgraded big time...but prior to that...it was a deathtrap. Manlift was without a doubt safer.

I read he went to A&M to play soccer. I have no first hand knowledge of the matter. After further review: [Hidden Content] It appears he did in fact go to ENMU. My apologies what I read was obviously incorrect. -

I'm gonna guess that those 19 carries were a season high? -

Alvarez takes an approach similar to Barbay..pulling the top players by the half (or earlier) when the team is up big. This allows them to: 1. Help keep scoring from getting to the unsportsmanlike level 2. Hold down exposure to injury 3. Allow player lower on the depth chart to get much needed playing time, speeding up development That last one is one reason teams like Newton seem to have fewer down years. The coaching staff is constantly developing the players all through the roster. -
hey lets drop the kirbyville down to 6 man..i bet he would rush for 4000 yards. Ya cant argue apples and oranges...2a-3a-4a big difference in opposition. You could have a 1A or 2A All State QB who wouldnt even start on alot of todays 4A and 5A teams. stupid post...no way to know. My daddy can beat up your daddy.
This statement cuts the other way too. There are players at the 2A level that could start at any 5A school in the state. Overall..sure there is a talent difference. But to say an outstanding back at a smaller school is not as good/less talented etc than one playing in a larger classification is a fallacy. There is a reason D1 schools recriut at the lower levels as well. Saying a 2A all-state QB couldnt start on most 4A or 5A teams is lunacy. Recent 2A all state QBs are now playing at places like Texas A&M (We Wood, Muleshoe), Kansas State (kid from Mart, dont remember his name) , and the University of Texas (Colt McCoy) Jim Ned. That last guy..a 2A QB happens to be a Hiesmann frontrunner for a second consecutive year. Oh..btw in the his final high school game against San Augustine his offense was held to 7 points. Against that "weak competetion" you are so derisive of. As far as backs go..a local 2A back went on to play D1 ball last year(Jackson, Kirbyville). Are you telling me he is good enough to be offered scholarships to Rice, A&M, Baylor, and SMU but not good enough to start on a 4A high school team? -
Type a one-line "mad libs" style analogy about your favorite coach (any level) The format is: If football were <insert analogy>, then <insert coach name> could <insert action>. Examples: If football were math, then Curtis Barbay could divide by zero. If football were a unicycle, then Dan Hooks could pop a wheelie. Try not to go negative as that would likely fall under the bashing rules.

It is well over. Newton is now trying FGs on first down etc. Looks like Barbay is trying to get work in on certain aspects while doing his usual "keep the score down" thing. -

I believe the standard poll formula (10 points for a first place vote 1 point for a 10th place vote) is used. -
Hello and welcome.
-
There is some absolute nonsense being written here. I will agree on this though: Kirbyville are the reigning champs and remain so until unseated. It is no different than when it went the other way last year. This is not the NCAA..you have to win championships here, not simply get voted there.

Do you REALLY believe that? If so, we need to get him in the Olympics. [Hidden Content]

There are up to 10 different reasons EC has no votes. Remember that this is a poll and not a ranking. Asking Bobcat to provide an explanation is like asking a single reporter to explain the AP poll.
