I am wondering why is there 3 topics of Crosby vs Vidor... all of them having Vidor talk a lot of trash.... Oh I know... It has been a long time sense Vidor has made the playoffs. 8 years running for Crosby under Flanigan.... And they all have to get it in now sense they will not have another till next year.. well I just leave you with this sense you have lost 1 or maybe 2 of your running backs.... GOOD LUCK!!
We were in the playoffs in 2009 against the Dayton Broncos. Only David Smallwood is out and he took David Bollinger's place who was the original tailback that got hurt against Nederland. He has now healed nicely and will be starting against ya'll Thurs. Since Mathews has been the coach (12 years), we've been to the playoffs 3 times, which is two more times than we had been in the 30 years before. I don't expect any of that to end any time soon because I consider him one of the best coaches and definately the best AD in SE Tex. Consequently, if I want to start 10 lines about Vidor vs. Crosby, I will. Especially given the poor decision of your school board concerning playing a home and away series with us. Shame we have to still face those things in the 21st century. Besides, the other strings were getting lengthy and tiresome. I wanted to talk SMACK!
boo freaking hoo get over it.
The 3-3-5 works when the DL can command double teams. If not, things get dicey.
47 commands and beats double teams regularly, corner stone to our defense, also 46 seems to take up defenders by pressing the whole. 1 Question about the vidor offense... Your misdirection that you point out, does it involve the use of back fakes. Like for example FB gets a fake followed by handoff to opposite side, or is it a counter variant offense. Where everyone fakes one way then goes the other? -

The only thing slow is Vidor. -
BH Should win period. Nederland should win period. Crosby has a good chance of beating Vidor. I think PNG has a good chance of beating Dayton this year. 2-2.
There is no way 19-4A wins 3 out of 4.... I'll eat crow all day long if they do... Nederland is a for sure win, and Vidor and PNG are at least 90% in my mind.... I'm even going to take Ozen in the upset because they do have such a speed advantage over BH....
See the twins have made believers out of everyone they've faced. It was 2 sophmores game 2 vs PNG? no chance. Look we told you they lost to LEE. GCM will pound them, that defense can't hold GCM at all. BH BH is going to be 10-0 no way the twins can beat our great defense. Yikes making short jokes about the twins.... not good don't give those boys motivation now, that is just dangerous.
I know that we are long past talking football and mostly just smack talking. But some of the football talk on this thread (and the other thread) really had me curious. I thought I would share what I found as I tried to research. These are just my observations. I am not a professional scout. And note that this is mostly written to my fellow Vidor fans. Crosby Offense: I am not sure what # the Twins wear. However, from what I saw of their QB (#7), he looked really impressive. He looks better using his legs, but he can throw it. He appeared to be more dangerous throwing when he could set his feet. I would best describe their offense is PNG-like. They run the bubble screen. A lot of fake handoff, QB keeper. And a lot of shotgun, handoff to the RB lined up next to the QB. There offense is explosive. I saw quite a few big plays. One thing that I thought I noticed is that on many of their plays, they do not appear to use the line to block the LBs. It appears that they are trying to neutralize the DL and then let the RBs make the LBs miss. I know that we historically have struggled with the PNG-like offense. But I thought we defended the Bubble screen very well against PNG. And I would guess that Crosby would adjust and focus extra blockers on our LBs. But I hate to guess too much on what Crosby will do. Clearly, there coaches will have a better insight than I do. Defense: I watched what they did defensively against Barbers Hill. I do not think Vidor will see a similar scheme. They really only had a 3 man front all night. To echo what another poster said, there Right DE is a beast! A few posters talked about how BH runs the same offense as Vidor. This could really not be further from the truth. BH seemed to run 2 basic offenses. One was a spread. But the offense that BH started with against Crosby was a Run oriented offense, but was not Wing T/Slot T. I assure you that no coach in Crosby is confused and think that BH offense prepared them for Vidor's offense. Crosby's Defense had some huge Turnovers against BH. They were difference makers. Other Observations: At least twice Crosby went for it on 4th down. Once, in the 1st half, crosby went for it on 4th and 1 from their own 14. I could not believe what I was seeing. They converted both times. Special Teams: Crosby's Special Team play that I saw (against PNG and BH) seemed odd. They had some big plays, but they gave up some big returns. And they had one kickoff return that ended up inside their own 5. I did not have a good angle for watching these plays, but it just seemed weird. I am not sure who will win this game. I think it is crazy to think that either team is clearly better than the other. Could we have a blow-out? Sure, anything can happen on a Friday night especially with all the pressure of the Playoffs. If either team has early Turnovers, it could get ugly. But from what I saw, it should be 2 really good teams that match up on Thursday night. I am going to try to watch more of Crosby and I may post some follow-up later in the week.
Good post. Our Special Teams consistently makes us go what the heLL. We are PNG like but more running then they do, they seem to pass as much as they run, we do not do this. The defense you will see is a 3-3-5, and it will be getting played all night. Also i expect the blocking scheme to be the same, if it didn't change vs BH (Great linebackers), there is no reason to change it for Vidor. The linebackers get picked by there own linemen most the time, and they almost always are put into bad angles by doubles on the linemen. Means we push the tackle 4 yards down field into the way of the linebackers. Now i do believe there is potential for something like the PNG game to happen. However i simply believe if you give the Cougars a lead and there special teams doesn't hand you the game, your not gonna come back. 1 Yard is automatic for my Cougs, but tbh that play was a "I think they can't stop me" type of play. The coaching staff must have believed BH cannot stop the cougars on 4th down, and guess what they where right. we were 3/3 on 4th down conversions btw. I guess i don't know what your calling the slot t then, my bad my 60's football schemes book is a little faded. =p (Gotta have a little fun) -

Non- District VS District wins/losses....
Cougtalk replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Depends on the teams and how they progress throughout the year. For example BH/Nederland is a good one, i believe both teams showed they where very good, and BH should get the best of it. Or PNG/Crosby tend to get much better throughout the year. So who knows with those two. Both teams tend to be Slow starters, and both tend to do well. -
Terry and Lamarque in the 1st game is a good thing for the other teams in Region III. Knocks 1 of those out early. Manvel and Brenham should be the favorite to make the region III final, but it is the playoffs and anything can happen.
They have to get past KPK.

The twins can flat out run and the DE on the right side was a monster. I know if Crosby does not get far this year, the next 2 years look good for them. I heard the JV was undefeated, and with the twins just being sophs. they will be pretty tough for the next couple of years. Just wondering other than the twins how many returners they will have next season.
they have alot of seniors and their jv was beat by dayton I beleive. Also dayton freshman beat them 50-6 in other words look out for dayton.
Just pointing this out Crosby JV has a bunch of sophmore talent, but some of that is on varsity. Cougars will be dangerous no doubts. -

The young lad must be amazing since there are none better in the area per Cougtalk.
I said may be the best back... and he might be. Coldsprings has some good backs, and Kelly has a nice QB/RB. K off to Education land. I just don't think the pirate ship has enough sails for this one... need a few more fliers if your gonna beat the cougs in this or the next 2 seasons. -
Comparing by who beat who early is crazy. Look at last year and year before that, PNG crushed Crosby and Crosby looked a lot better in playoffs. After beating Crosby by thirty plus last year Crosby came and beat a Nederland team that beat PNG. Crosby seems to play better as season goes and the Crosby I saw early was much better than last years. I also assure you PNG team that beat Vidor is much better than the one that lost to Crosby. Should be a war.
Right the point is this... Crosby always gets much better as the season goes on, the Team that beat PNG is not even the same team that beat BH. The defense has been tinkered with so much they aren't even similar. The offense doesn't make mistakes. This game will come down to the cougars holding onto the football on punts and the cougars not letting big returns. GCM/Dayton/BH all recieved help from our special teams (BH was kinda canceled out by the fumble on a kickoff) But Dayton (Punt droped by punter, punt to the cougars where a kid makes a bonehead play and trys to catch the ball, and kickoff return for TD... thats 3 TDS given up to those Broncos on 3 special teams plays.) -
Who is talking trash about Vidor? Some people think Crosby will win, others are predicting Vidor. Don't take things personally if someone disagrees. From this thread I have learned from obviously unbiased sources that... 1) Crosby only has 2 days to learn to defend the wing-t. 2) Ozen and Livingston probably have better athletes than Crosby and Vidor shut them down. 3) Crosby has 4 losses, Vidor only 2. 4) Crosby beat Barbers Hill but they haven't impressed anyone since beating Nederland. 5) Crosby beat PN-G but PN-G has improved a bunch, Crosby hasn't. 6) This game is in Vidor's backyard. 7) Vidor has more heart, and will always play 4 quarters of football. PN-G and Nederland folks have chimed in and expressed some doubt about Vidor winning, but please don't trash the Pirates like that. Refer to points 1-7. Vidor by 5 TDs. I'll be fine if the MVP is newcomb but i think Austin should win it.

(they just played against that offense last night)
and 3 weeks ago. as thats what GCM ran against us all game. But gives Vidor less time to prepare for the 15 different formations they'll see this game. Expect them all and some you haven't seen yet. p.s. Two cents BH doesn't run an option oriented offense they run a slot T with an occasional triple option, its the same offense. -
I've only seen Vidor lose to Nederland in the 1st round of the playoffs in 2000 at Lamar. This is the playoffs and it is high school. Any team can win. Just how the cookie crumbles. And how could anyone think Lamar University is in Orange and be from this side of Texas? Really?
I have never lived in the Beaumont area. Never been to Lamar. Never spent time in Beaumont. As Houston and Humble are much closer... that's how. @Husker. Crosby is not Twins or bust. TD pass was to Rahim Lamarque (that's misspelled), and our 2nd string back/Wide out Jacoby Scott is an absolute game changer. Not to mention our QB won't be playing both ways and thus if this gets into a shootout that's going to hurt Vidor. p.s. We are not Ozen. Ozen is not us. And we haven't been one dimensional since Districts started, it's not like its a new trend. we pass the ball and we run it very effectively. Also Ask BH Austin Walter is a weapon in the passing game as well as the running game. Vidor has not seen a back this year with the quickness Austin Walter has. Now does that mean that we are gonna walk all over vidor, absolutely not. I'm telling you theirs not a back in the Area that is better than this kid. And his Brother is a hell of a football player to, so its a pick your poison moment when they run the option. -
