Cougtalk replied to liltex's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
im in wednesday is fine... who knows maybe we will have all 7 teams advance again=P -
Since some of our teams are done for the season, I thought it would be neat to possibly voice concerns or excitement for next season. Who is coming back? Any JV/Freshman that can be contributors next year? Etc...
Let you know when we're done.!

Massey has this as an extremely close game 23-22 =p If Massey is right, id take the cougars this year, however bad we think that defense secondary is they always step up (so far) in crunch time, BH game, and Both playoff games. My question isn't defensive because i think were gonna give up 21-28 points... my question is whether or not that Dawson Defense can stop that COugar run game.
If they want to keep advancing they are going to have to make some adjustments in that secondary. With that said, they have done a h&ll of a job thus far. To advance I believe they are going to have to change things up a little. You have to "dance with the one that brung you" but I think you're going to have to add a wrinkle in the offensive and defensive scheme to advance further. To watch their first game of the year and where they are now is quite amazing.
They introduced a wrinkle this week if you didn't notice, but id like to see the defense change coverages more often... itd be good for the team.
It's hard to question the coaching, because they keep winning. But everyone I talked to after the game had the same comments. Three things that stuck out. One was we went for it when we should have punted. Two, why not have 2 men deep on kick offs that are suspected onside kicks. And THREE, drop back your secondary so that you do not get beat deep. Do not want to be negative and the coaches know way more than I do, but it just seems too obvious. Maybe someone else can explain. Either way the guys came up big and it was a great win. I have a new name for them, Cardiac Cougars!
We need to ahve a seperate post for this subject, but what happens is we play a cover-2 which leaves open the middle i wish the staff would mix in a cover three package to take advantage of teams scouting.

Crosby's O line 348 between to runners and it was pounding running game. -
C-Talk, without a doubt, the Cougars brought the wood to the fight. Very solid hits, all clean football. Crosby should be proud, your QB Merka made some very clutch yardage. And he controlled the ballin the third qtr to run off a ton of time. The secret to stopping Leroy Dobbins is to keep him off the field, and Crosby did that very well. Trench made the game saving play, because we've scored a ton of points with that very play. It's tough to defend and Trench knocked it out of the park slapping that ball down, when the game was on the line. We just came up a couple of yards short. Dawson is going to be tough, but if you bring the fire to them as you did us, it should be a great game. The have a quarterback that will scramble, and if he doesn't have a receiver open quickly, he will take off, you need to put a spy on him. They have a solid all purpose back, but is stoppable, just watch the Friendswood films. Pressure on the QB and contain on the outside, they will run a counter and misdirection play on you. Crosby offense should be in good shape with their speed, and a hurry up offense seems to confuse Dawson. They have situational players for third down and short yardage. Good luck to you and hope the "51" player wasn't hurts to badly, it looked like the QB rolled up his ankle on the short yardage play. Hopefully not ligament damage and it's just a deep sprain.
Good information thanks your kids played well nothing toi hang thier heads about great game, i just want that kid whoo was talking massive smack earlier this week to get on these boards and eat some darn crow... O and who needs a balanced offense gl 348 rushing yards! 4tds between 2 players.

score? -
Your QB reminds me of the kid Sorenson sp from Texas High going to OSU. Just hope he does not get hurt lowering that shoulder.
Hahha other people are more likely to get hurt from him lowering that shoulder than him.... but he also has a hell of a stiff arm! Remember the play he ran for like 55 yards and the two guys were following him and he was like swatting them off, heck one of those plays i saw LT for a second with that stiff arm. Hes fun to watch and we get to watch him for a whole nother season,
Went to the game and I I have two questions for the Coogs. How in the world did you loose to PNG and get blown out by Ennis? Good job and your qb is a beast.
haha want the cliche answer? We played cover 2 against these teams and not against PNG or Ennis =P
-
51, was the one hurt fyi prayers for him. (ankle is what i believe i saw him rubbing) Cougars like to play dangerous i guess... As for Dawson, this line tonight was giant tbh... They had a great RB and a VERY good QB he threw 3-4 absolutely perfect passes tonight. Honestly tonight the bombs we gave up were more earned than us giving them up absolutely perfect receptions. Great game, we'll be moving on to rd 3. One last note... a question for Motgomery... Those Coogs hit hard don't they =P

game never happened thier was a first round forfiet in 4a div 1 this year what a shame.
Cougtalk finally shows signs of intelligence... :) I was beginning to think he was mentoring the running back that was compelled to talk more smack to our cheerleaders!
HAHHAHa... Greydog you know you'll always have a favorite place in my heart and Lap... you little schnozer.
