But some Nederland, Dayton folks all listen to one poster or one kids behavior and paint the whole town the same color - you of course are correct and the fans who acted poorly always upset us, just like Fitz and the guy with the sign last year. [/quote] I am not sure if you are just leaning on platitudes here or if you are serious.  Last year, I made what I believe was my only other post ever on this message board during the Nederland vs. Friendswood series because I was stuned by Friendswood's behavior and the way other posters seemed to accept and justify it.  There clearly was passion and some venom in the posts generated by that series, but I never saw anything that could be deemed prejudiced; stupid, maybe, but prejudiced, no.  Looking back over the thread, I still can not identify a single post you could be referencing.  I saw no reference to race or religion.  The only post that I can identify that even references a minority player was mine wherein I said: "As wrongheaded as that post is, it may just highlight the fundamental difference between our teams, our schools, and our communities.  In the GT, we do not believe it is okay to be disrespectful just because you can "back it up."  We teach the Teddy Roosevelt mantra:  speak softly and carry a big stick.  We don't teach our kids swing first, but we teach them to do their damnedest to swing last.  Sonnier's performance lastnight exemplified what we teach our kids.  When the Friendswood dugout taunted him after he was injured fouling a ball off his shin, he stepped quietly and confidently into the box and smashed the next pitch 374 feet off the rightfield wall to drive in the go-ahead run.  You can keep your chest pounders and your kiss blowers.  Sonnier is the kind of kid that makes us proud.  Friendswood may be happy to raise a bunch of T.O.s, but here in the GT, we are looking to raise a bunch of Tom Bradys. Great game tonite. Well played game, great sportsmanship in the stands and on the field. Much more enjoyable atmosphere than some of our other series this year and last year. Looking forward to another good game Friday. Also the tone on this board about this series vs the FW vs Nederland series much nicer and what sports is all about. Where is the outrage on this vs Friendswood vs La Marque? Now I know thru friends that PNG did the exact same things FW did to avoid making this worse than it was, but how do all you folks who were not at the FW game or the PNG game who jumped all over FW? Think about it!

No one on the Friendswood team benefited from this game. Just like no one from Yates got any better by playing Houston Lee. They are both "district" games and have to be played. They just do not have to embarrass the opponent. I stand by my opinion on Yates and Coach Wise. There [b]is[/b] a way to slow the game down and run out the clock against a clearly inferior opponent. GCM would have beat them by the same score even while trying to keep the score down , how do you prevent kids from walking on 4 pitches they can not get their bat on? There is integrity to the game fella, and we tried to do that with sportsmanship!

How many of the folks who posted here were at the game? How many folks who condemed the FW coaches have any idea what really happened. Several posters took a balanced approach and stated they had no idea what the circumstances were, but here is what they would have liked to see happen from their perspective, thank you for that. For those who condemed FW based on your stereotyping of FW and cmmunities like FW let me tell you what happened; 1. LM had 8 players. They have forfeited several games because they had less than 8 players. The coach went around the school and recruited players. His "best" player decide the day of the FW game he would rather go watch a sweet sixteen game at Reliant - understand what he is dealing with? 2. FW did not start several regulars. The starters that did play were out after 2 innnings. 3. The game went 5 innings. Out of the 15 outs, 14 were strikeouts. One ball was put in play! We were serving up fastball meat ball after meatball. 4. After the first couple innings the subs were instructed to start swinging at anything they could get their bat on, ball or strike., They were swinging at balls over their shoulders! Does this help FW stay sharp, no, but it was the right thing to do. 5. We stopped taking extra bases and stealing 6. We did not play the bunting game, that is more insulting than anything. In summary the FW coach did the best he could - he stopped "pressing" early in the game - unlike the Yates team. Our parents did not make "34" t shirts like the Yates parents did after they scored 174! We handled it with as much class as we could. For those that condemned us based on their stereotyped perceptions of FW, shame on you, that is the definition of a bigot. There is no elegant way to handle this situation, but I have no issues with what we did, nor did the LM fans, parents and coaches.
