Brenham vs WF Rider- 4A State Semi Final Updates-
fwstangs replied to BrenhamFan's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
In Brenham it's pretty much state or bust every year, so while it was a good season, it's not exactly what we had in mind. It's pretty hard to repeat. We'll be back next year to defend the regional title, and give state another shot! Good season boys!
You are correct - a high standard has been set. Tell them good season, Region 3 is proud! -

Brenham vs Magnolia Game 2/Series tied 1-1
fwstangs replied to BrenhamFan's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Sounds like a great game. -
Fwstangs, I appreciate the support. I agree, we have seen Greene twice this year and are 2-0 against him. We havn't seen much of Kirkland, so I'm more concerned about him. A venue that seats 750 for a team that probably has the best following as far as baseball goes, is crazy. Especially mixing Brenham & Magnolia fans. IMO, this is not a good idea and could get ugly. There's no love lost between these 2 schools. This is the same team that plowed our catcher over 2 years ago and then cheered as he got up with a broken nose. I expect security to be beefed up more than usual, but I'm not sure that will help in a place that small. Magnolia is playing some good baseball right now, so we have our hands full. This will definatly be a tough and interesting series. Go Cubs! Let's make our 16th trip to state, against our rival! (How sweet would that be) Coming for our 8th title, so we can pass Bellaire and SW San Antonio for most ever. (Currently tied at 7 with them)
Good luck - Not surprised at your Catchers broken nose being cheered. Magnolia has lots of class! Try to keep those Magnolia Moms away from you after the games, they love to get in your face! Wish I could be there!

Apparently Mumford High has a new, beautiful sports complex largely donated by John Randle (of Vikings fame).
But it's still 1A. But, baseball is one of the few varsity sports they offer.
I would not care if it was 1A or 5A.... if the field is nice and has the seating..... why not.... classifications dont mean you have a great field... trust me, I know a lot of 4A and 5A schools that fields are really bad...
Does not have the seating, seats 750 - that is of course tine and the fan interaction could be a problem with this rivalry.
4A REGION III CHAMPIONSHIP BRENHAM vs MAGNOLIA, 2 of 3 GAME-1, THURSDAY, 7:30 @ MUMFORD GAME-2, FRIDAY, 7:30 @ MUMFORD GAME-3, SATURDAY, 7:30 @ MUMFORD (I can't believe a game of this caliber is being played at a 1A school?!) This should be a very good series! This is 17-4A's best, and dirtiest rivalry as far as baseball goes. These 2 teams respect each other, but don't like each other. Brenham won 17-4A, and Magnolia finished 2nd in the district. Earlier this year Brenham won 7-1 in Brenham, and 4-2 in Magnolia. In both games, Brenham faced Greene, and Magnolia faced Schlottmann. If nothing else, I think 17-4A has proved it's region 3's most difficult district. Brenham hasn't lost to a 17-4A team all year either. The edge in pitching goes to the Bulldogs, while I would give Brenham the edge in offense. Usually good pitching, trumps good hitting, but I'm making an exception this time for 2 reasons.... A.) Anything can happen in a rivalry! B.) As far as experience goes, Brenham defines playoff baseball! I'm taking Brenham in 3. Co Cubs!
I agree Brenham Fan, Mumford?? I do not care how nice the turf is, the atmosphere of a field that seats 750 for a regional final - that stinks! After playing Magnolia, I understand your comments above about your rivalry. Wow - I will just leave it at that Wow about the antics on and off the field! Tell LemonJello on H5A how you feel about this venue! I know FW and Brenham all have their issues with fans and confident players, but I have never seen such as Magnolia. Go get em Cubs - I got Brenham in 2!! PS - Yall should hit Greene very well.
Final: Magnolia 7, Friendswood 6 Dogs score 2 in the bottom of the 7th. Hey fwstang when you get on here, the tweet I got talked about some wild play to end the game, but you can't be real clear in 150 characters. What happened?
Sorry - have been way busy - They had runners on first and 2nd, single to center, play at home , kid with single goes to 2nd and our catcher airmails one to center field allowing the winning run in from 3rd. We just ran out of emotional energy, team has been thru a lot. Very proud of them. I will just end it there. My senior played his last baseball game last nite, and he want out fighting and lost with class. I can not say the same about a few Magnolia fans and players, but I guess that will always be the case. Good luck Brenham/Santa Fe Winner - will be there cheering for you!

Magnolia vs Friendswood- Predictions?
fwstangs replied to BrenhamFan's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Game 1 - Thursday - 7:30 @ Kingwood Game 2 - Friday - 4:00 @ Kingwood Game 3 - 30 min Following (If Needed) I'm going with Magnolia in 2. (I just think that Friendswood hasn't played a team in the playoffs, that is anywhere close to as good as Magnolia. The level of skill will be too drastic of a change) Magnolia is playing better than they have all year.
Well I can not argue with your logic, but that has been the case all year with FW. Ball pitching and hitting and Dawson pitching made them the favorites of all for 24-4a district title, FW and Santa Fe managed to finish 1st and 2nd! Santa Fe and Friendswood were both suppposed to go down to the acclaimed bats of Lamar Cons and Angleton, per the stats they both have awesome bats, but we held them in check! We shall see. Hope we can compete! Agree that Magnolia and Brenham are among the toughest teams we have faced! Clements was very good - 10-3 loss, A&M Consolidated was very good 5-0 loss, and Montgomery was good, 2-1 loss. So we did not beat those teams..... -
Brenham vs Willis- Predictions?
Banditos have numerous teams, and yes they are for profit. Nothing wrong with that. They also have some of the best talent in the area, hands down.( Many Brenham boys started playing with them two years ago and are better for it). Didn't mean to hit a nerve, but it is what it is. Baserunning starts in LL about puberty, and select players who have professional instruction on basepaths have a distinct advantage. Gladiators, Sundevils, etc all spend hours on technique in which Dad's cannot reproduce or better yet, LL rules don't allow for. I believe your son is a great baserunner and I also believe that there are terrible baserunners in select, but comparing yours to a select player on your team is not a basis for an overall opinion. Advanced base skills CANNOT be taught in LL. Speed is inherently derived and and you can't fix that, but I cannot feel that the above mentioned programs have a distinct advantage for high school players. but I respect your decision but I stand by the opinion.
No - but they can be taught starting when you do start open bases at 13! And that forum can be select ball or Pony ball. Some of us dad's resumes are the same as the select coaches, we just chose a different career path! Yes you did touch a nerve in FW, we had a group try to kill LL for a select league, while they were on the LL board. Sorry I might have over reacted!! -
Congrats on the win Friendswood! It's still a ways off, and theres some quality teams in front of both teams, but possibly a rematch of last years regional final.
Wlll Brenham is the prohibitive favorite to make it to state, Magnolia, Montgomery or FW would be decided underdogs! But we will battle to get there!
-
Sorry. Usually the stronger team prefers a 3 game series, so I figured it was Angleton who wanted 1 game. IMO, Friendswood is better, so that was my reasoning behind that.
No, no - no issue at all. Thanks for the props, but on paper Angleton looked better with those batting averages. But that did not play out thursday night. Can not trust high school stats when we all play such different levels of tournament play, preseason games and depth of district pitching.
Bolcerek bunts and beats the throw, Walla doubles, Baker 2 run double, Nutt sac bunt, Bentke walks, delayed double steal (run scores on throwing error) Jacobs walks, another successful delayed double steal (run scores), Kubeczka lines out (runner doubled off). Mid 6 7-1 Cubs
Wow, Bolcerek bunts twice in one game. Glad the Brenham coach thinks everyone should bunt. We have had lots of banter here about bunting situation with your best hitter up. " No you never take the stick out of your best hitters hands!!" Wrong - move the runner up or lay down the bunt if they are playing deep! Love it Brenham, keep playing smart ball.

Brenham vs Willis- Predictions?
Defense has been real consistent all year. Seen most games, but not all. Jacobs shows 7 errors, Roberts 6 errors, and more at other postions, even in the outfield. By and large the Cubs are known for their defense. You must also credit that some infield grounders that Jacobs and especially Roberts get to are not playable for most others, but because they get to it, they can be charged with errors. According to your competitors, they come in knowing you have a solid defense, believe me, more importantly up the middle and your firstbaseman. But the true achilles heel for the Brenham boys is now and always has been BASE RUNNING. The theory that I have subscribed to explained by the Bandito guru's is they play "little league" and are 4 years behind select ball players on lead offs, reading pitchers, and getting jumps. After watching enough games I believe they are correct. Those small things will beat you in big games against good teams. I witnessed a defense lapse for the first time this year, but baserunning has been constantly shaky. Constatntly see hesitation and unsuredness, and they have been known to run themselves out of innings. I'll never forget listening to games on the radio where a runner at first breaks on the first movement (a one way go) and the lefty tosses back to first and the runner is already closing in on second and the announcer says it was a pick off that failed. No, that was a designed play to draw the throw, but selectplayers learn that at 10. Those are stolen bases, even if the firstbaseman throws it away. Base running almost cost the Cubs every game this weekend, not just one bad defensive inning.
Sorry - Ray deLeon is all bluster on this one. My kid played LL and he is an excellent baserunner, as are most of our kids who played LL. One of the kids who has gotten picked off the most on our team has played the most Select ball, no LL for years. And if anyone thinks the Brenham kids with their baseball savvy can not figure out how to run the bases by starting with leadoffs at 13 years old, you are not using the noggin! Next Theory. Geez do not fall for the Deleon only select players from age 6 can be great complete players bunk! Besides - the Banditos want your money!! -
Which team wanted the 1 game series? That's kind of unusual in the 3rd round.
It was us. Coach was worried that our ace was hurt, he was not. He pitched 6 innings, 95 pitches of shutout ball and our Big boy, Hibbs came in and ended the game with 4 pitches, 3 weak half swing fooled by the inside heat ground balls! Friendswood rolled the dice and won. Our pitching and defense won this game! We all hate one game series, but it was a good move if your pitchig depth is of concern. Angleton coach was whining that it was a one game series in the paper today. Well guess what - his number 2, Murphy, hurt his knee the game before and had to leave this game , playing SS, in the 2nd. No way he could pitch today. Masters pitched for the first time in weeks against HISD Austin and looked rusty - hit 3 batters and his velocity was average for him. One game was Angleton's best hope also in hindsight!

I know your the ignorant one that posted the comment just so happened "PAT" agreed with you!! That's what's sad!!! Jealousy is a ugly trait, I have nothing to be jealous about.... I don't even have a kid on the team! I seen all three games as well. You might want to get your eyes checked.
Go find another battle sportsfan - you have lost this one. Good luck GCM - glad to see yall doing well.
