Coldspring vs. Bellville predictions
Here's some of Coldspring's pre-season games.. Kirbyville Tarkington Shepherd Splendora Cleveland * some of theses teams are in a rebuilding year...I wouldn't call this a real tough schedule... ;D ;D ;D ;D
All the teams listed above, with the exception of Kirbyville, are in Coldspring's district and are not preseason games. The only real competition for CS in their district was Huffman. CS starters seldom saw second half action, which could have put them at a disadvantage in postseason. Maybe that's why their offense didn't put the expected points on the scoreboard, not trying to take anything away from Bridge City's defense, who did a very good job. -

Jim's and Joe's or X's and O's??

Nice post Pirate Pride. That's what every coach should aspire to do. But, what if the bodies of the Js & Js do not develop into 220 lbs.? Or if they are slow? Will any amount of motivation make them larger or faster? I do believe that a good coach can get so much more out of kid than the kid realizes he can do, but reality slaps the kid in the face when he can't keep up or is run over. But, I like your attitude and can-do spirit. It's what we should all believe--sorry to be such a cynic. -
If they are as undisciplined and vanilla as everyone says, I don't see them putting 21 on the Chain Gang. Then again, who knows?
Well, it depends on WOS's D. Can they stop the big play because Cleveland does have some big plays in 'em-- like said -- if they get a glimmer of confidence. Just because #7 is strong & fast, I think they will break for 3 TDs. But WOS's defense could make a liar out of me.

West Orange-Stark vs. Cleveland
belle-mere replied to monknuk68's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The second half was played with as much class, as a coach could possibly do.
Does class mean having most starters play the 4th Q? Yes, Tarkington was no match for Cleveland, so I wouldn't call trying out playoff moves against Tarkington an excuse for running up the score. Had the whole 2nd, 3rd team been in like CS did, that's using as much class as a head coach can. Even so, I wish the Indians luck against WOS. -
Winning and losing are both habits.... Good coaches instill good work habits (ethics) and attitudes, great coaches instill great work ethics and attitudes...losers not so much...Show me a program that consistently produces winning results (not just making the playoffs), and I'll show you a good coach with great talent or a great coach with good talent regardless of the X's and O's...When you get the years where a great coach has great talent you get Champions...
I completely agree that winning becomes a habit. I've seen teams, not necessarily with superior athletes, refuse to lose because their team has a habit of winning. That has a lot to do with Xs and Os, but that habit is already instilled in those kids through tradition and expectations. -
Livingston-Vidor and Buna-Woodville. Toss-ups.
Really Tarkington beat Coldspring with freshman? I find that hard to believe.
I heard someone on a thread here say that Coldspring pulled up all their upperclassmen and played Tarkington with freshmen only. I can't confirm that, but I suspect it.

Colmesneil walking off field in 3rd????????????
belle-mere replied to goodtimes's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Not judging Comesnil's coaching staff, but I have to agree that quitting is not the lesson I'd want my son to learn. I'd rather get beat by 100 points than to leave the field. I even resent a running clock when we're on the short end of the score. I hear people say to put them out of their misery. No, misery is giving up, not losing. -
Last time they made the playoffs was 1956, I would like to see them have a good season one year. [Hidden Content]
Good stats mwm. -
What about 3rd & 4th place teams who go further in the playoffs? A couple if years ago one of the Klein teams, went further than the district champs. Is that a fluke? I don't know, but it was interesting.
-
Lets let every team make the playoffs it teaches the kids a great life lesson they can be below average and still be winners. Skip the hard work thing where all in. I also think it should apply to school work everybody gets an a.
I get your point, but who says they are not working hard? The average Larrys and Joes just aren't as big or fast, and they will go home when they meet a better team.

Cleveland vs Tarkington Predictions
Does Tarkenton ever win? And I don't mean that in a mean way.. Seems every time I hear a final score for them it's always a lose. What can turn them around?
I can't remember Tarkington's last winning season and I mean in 20 years. But I heard their 9th grade team has beat all district JV teams, and the 8th grade too. It will be interesting to see if Coach Carpenter and his staff can build a winning attitude and better skills with these youngsters. I'd like to see the underdog win this week, but don't think it will happen this year. I predict a 40 point spread, if the Indians rest starters after the half. Congrats to Cleveland for making the playoffs. No way Liberty beats Coldsprings. -
It's nice to reward a team like Kirbyville who is clearly better in Week 10 than they were in Week 0 with a playoff spot. I don't see anything wrong with it. It gives teams a reason to keep fighting despite being down early in the year
I agree with keeping hope alive as bmcgee says, & with not penalizing teams who play a tough preseason. As long as a school does well in their district, they should advance. And what about districts loaded with talent. Would you leave a third or fourth place team home who is better than winners of a weak district? I say let 'em play.
Was it just me or was the Huffman side not full? It looked like there were quite a few seats available...What is the usual crowd size for a big game? Just wondering because I thought it would be completely full but maybe there's more room over there than there are available fans... Not saying more should've showed up...Just honestly wondering..
The home side is huge in that stadium. Just saying--seems hard for a 3A school, even a large 3A to fill. But, if they could fill it, last night would have been the night to do it.
