1.
So under what circumstances would a ref end up taking the ride to austin? It seems to me there is no way that happens in reality.
that is not a fun trip had to make that trip once.
 2.
The interpretation you got was an official who didnt know the rules so he made up the explaination.  You cant tell me that once a player has possession of the ball he can not "chin the ball and pivot".  That is one of first things I teach youth, no so much because they need to know it but because they have to hold the balls that way. Anyway, the official was incorrect, and there is plenty more of  that were that came from.
yeah he can chin and pivot. if he displaces the defender as he is turning with a elbow then its an offensive foul.
 3. If you feel that 1a through 5a should be ref the same i understand but its not. go to a game in fort bend isd then go watch then go watch a game in 22 2a. you should be able to see that difference in play.
 4.
why skill set? we have ten guys on the floor in our games just like they do.
if 1a school was to play a 5a school they would beat up physically. there a are bumps, slaps, pushes, and nudges that happen during a 5a game that the players can play through. where a 1a game i would have to ref it tighter because most of the kids can't handle the contact.
 5.
Almost seems irrelevant to me. If he was close enough to catch an elbow on a controlled pivot he was too close. No different than a blocking foul to me. If the defensive player was so close that he drew contact from the offensive player and wasn't "set" (there is some argument here as well) then it's a blocking foul. I like the original rule. . .if a player swings his elbows independent from his pivot it should be an offensive foul, otherwise it's a "no call" or a foul on the defense. Seems to me like this new rule puts a lot of pressure on the officials to protect the ball handler.
by rule if there space in between two players the defender is allowed to that spot. its a big deal this year if elbows are used to create space. in the beginning of the season as a chapter we were told to give techs if elbows were above the shoulders and use to create space. This came from the UIL
 6.
Why don't 1-A pay the same as3or4-a
its not about pay its more about skill set
 7.
I have seen this call go several different ways. I saw a Technical Foul called for an elbow to the face because the players elbows were above his shoulders even though it was a controlled pivot. Correct me if I am wrong, but if the defensive player was that close then the officials should have been protecting the ball handler and even if the foul was called wouldn't a flagrant foul have been a more appropriate call? 2nd time I saw it happen it was called as a violation, no foul. It was treated like a travel, double dribble, etc. This was probably the most suprising way I have seen it called. Can anyone, maybe a coach or an official, shed any light on this subject?
was the defensive player leaning on him or was there space between the two players?
 8.
yes Sir,  call a time out, or I'll call a tech.   If it's a tech, call it.  I do understand water on floor could be a danger if someone falls,  hence why someone was already wiping it up.
never called a tech i'll use a delay of game before i use a tech.
 9.
I called ball back when you got 10 dollars per game and no mileage. I never said that all refs were bad, the most in upper classes do a good job! but for the most part in this area what I've seen in 1-a are not as lets just say good. There are some that love the game and do very well.  When they just come back with if you don't like it suit up and try it your self tells me there not intrested in improving AND ITS A BURDON ON THEM TO TRY!
1 a games will not get good officials until playoffs. 1-a is a starting point for 1st year varsity officials.
 10.
I watched a game tonight where a referee (who claimed to be a veteran) watched a team inbound the ball, take 4 or 5 dribbles, make a pass and then granted a time out to the opposing team who was on defense at the time btw. And some people believe these guys shouldn't be held accountable. . .really?!? Please tell me there is an appropriate channel in which to file these complaints so that UIL can realize the err of their ways. IMO this shouldn't be a referee bashing session but a means to a much needed end.
go to the chapter

yes...they always seem to get some home cookin.....if you know what I mean
You can say that about just about any team.  It is the favorite excuse of many visiting fans, even by fans of my hometown team when we travel. The only thing I have witnessed this year is that the quality of refereeing across the board has been of low quality.  The new refs (that I have not seen in years past) are not even using the correct hand signals with what they call.   I think they must be getting laid off WallyWorld greeters.
one thing i notice about this area when comes to basketball. There are a lot of teams that are soft in the area. Teams can't handle light contact. Nederland, Sterling, CE king, New Caney and the two Cy fair schools are able to play through contact.

 21.
IMO I think the best program in Texas might be LT right now "4 straight state championships with 3 different head coaches and 1 this year when we consider this to be an off year for them, because they lost i think 2 games",im not saying they are the #1 team in Texas. Denton Guyer and Cibolo Steele both was 4A last season, move up to 5A and beat everyone in D2 to play for state. So what do you think, can your team hold there own with anyone? Is a 4A or a 3A  team beating most 5A teams possible in your eyes?
I think it depends on the match up. If a 4a team that passes a lot like LT plays another Passing that is 5a. I think you can throw out the classification. Only time I feel the classifications matter If a power running 5a team is playing a 4a team. I seen too many times a good 4a team get wore down by power running 5a teams.
 22. final four should be nederland, the winner out of cy lakes and sterling, barbers hill, and cy ridge
 23. DC Stallworth is the one with a real chance. If he gets to a D-1 it will be a low D1
