Another advantage for Aledo is this will be the third game that many of these players have played in Cowboy Stadium. They have won the previous two. If you have not been there, it is overwhelming when you first walk in. This experience will definately be an advantage to the Bearcats. Also, the stadium in 33 miles from Aledo and will not require an overnight. However, for Manvel, the drive will be 279 miles and I assume an overnight. Best of luck to both teams, I expect a great game. GO BEARCAT!

I will tell him that he needs to decommit and go to Baylor so he can win a Heisman trophy!!!!!!

JGray could very well be a once in a lifetime player for any program. He is simply that good. However, the Aledo football program has been successful without him. He was bothered by injuries last year and was not really even close to 100% until the state championship game, yet we were able to get there. Over the past 16 years, Aledo has a record of 187-37 (winning percentage of 84%). Here is a breakdown of the seasons and how far they went through the playoffs. 1996 - 4 rounds - 11-2 1997 - 5 rounds - 14-1 1998 - State Champs 3A-D1 - 13-1 1999 - 3 rounds - 10-3 2000 - 2 rounds - 11-1 2001 - 2 rounds - 8-4 2002 - 4 rounds - 12-2 2003 - 4 rounds - 10-4 2004 - 5 rounds - 12-4 2005 - 4 rounds - 8-6 2006 - 4 rounds - 12-2 2007 - 4 rounds - 11-3 2008 - 2 rounds - 11-1 2009 - State Champs 4A-D2 - 15-1 2010 - State Champs 4A-D2 - 16-0 2011 - Playing in State Championship game - 13-2 That is only 3 times in 16 years that they have not made it past the 2nd round. Thats 4 State Champion games (with 4 wins after Saturday) ;) 4 Semi-Final finishes. So half of the past 16 years, Aledo has made it to at least the State Semi-Finals or Championship game. Also, note they are undefeated in State Championship games the past 16 years. Now all that being said, I do expect a great game Saturday. Nobody gets this far without having an excellent team. I do think Aledo will win because of our offense and the fact that the defense has improved through the course of this season more than any other defense we have ever had. Safe travels to all who are coming up to Arlington this weekend. It will be a great time!

Is it that hard to run like a normal human being? He tried to push the refs and see what he could get away with....gotta face the consequences. Just because he's on track to break records doesn't clear him of not following the rules and consequences. Thats whats wrong with society, people who think it should be ok to break laws and rules that govern us, just because a record may get broken, or because of status, or etc. take your emotion out of it.
How about you take your emotions out of it. I actually watched the entire game after i found out about this and seen SEVERAL players that did there little celebrations after they got a sack or a tackle or something else and was not given the second look by the ref but when the leading rusher of the game does a penalty as stupid as high stepping, he gets the flag and the ejection. It is plainly obvious that the ref had something against him.
i have no emotions about it....i could care less either way..... in general I just don't get why players have to selfishly celebrate and bring attention to themselves....if your gonna celebrate...celebrate as a team
So the first penalty was the "cut throat" jesture that was done towards his teammates.....does that count as celebrating with your team. I don't think so. The high step run was a violation of the rule. I have not problem with it being called but just like the earlier poster said, it needs to be consistent. There was an instance when one player from the other team celebrated like he had won the superbowl when he made a goal line tackle. However, the person he tackled did not have the ball and Aledo scored on the play and they were not behind by 21 points. His display was twice as over the top as to compared to anything that JGray did, but the flags stayed in the pocket. Just did not seem to be enforced the same on both sides. Like I said, with all the talk that had taken place the week before in the area, both teams were very keyed up. I am not excusing his actions and it is very out of character for him to do something like that. I was more disappointed that it was not being called the same both ways.

It was a very emotional game. Earlier in the week there was a lot of "calling out" of the Aledo Team for having no heart since they lost the only two games they were behind in this year (Stephenville in week 0 and Lake Travis in week 2). Aledo and Stephenville are bitter rivals and when the local blogger on a DFW board took the time to write some pretty pointed criticisms of the Aledo team and its lack of leaders, lets just say the boys were very motivated. Since beating Aledo in the first game of the seaon, all Aledo has heard is how they have no D and Stephenville was going to knock them out of the playoffs. Each week, someone was saying they were going to lose but Aledo has just kept getting better and the D has really been coming together. Game day comes and the stadium is overflowing. The weather is bad but the crowd and the teams are into it! On the 2nd play of the game, JGray makes Stephenville look silly and runs it into the end zone. This is where Johnathan makes his mistake. He did do the "cut throat" motion as he reached the Aledo sideline towards the Aledo fans.....not toward any one Stephenville player or fan. However, he should not have done that and it is going to get called. He then proceeded to endure the wrath of Coach Buc in front of all of the Aledo fans and nobody questioned it. Where it got interesting is in the 3rd when he received his second penalty for "changing his style of run". The call was bogus but Aledo still proceeded to keep the Jackets off the board with a 33-0 shutout. Unfortunately, a lot of false information was being spread around DFW regarding JGray's actions at halftime and after the game with the other players from Stephenville. The record has been set straight and other than the penalties, which he paid dearly for, he did nothing wrong. Looking forward to this Friday's game with Corsicana!

LaMarque vs. Aledo State Title Predictions?

LT was definately down, but it was also essentially the same team that beat everyone else they faced. I believe the QB Brewer was back for the Cedar Park loss towards the end of the district season. Bottom line is, when you get to the state championship game, both team are going to be road tested. They are all on at least a 6 game win streak with teams that were in the top half of the districts througout Texas. Things in La Marque's Favor: 1. Lots of athletes on that team. 2. Peaking at the perfect time. 3. Athletes galore! 4. Tradition! Although none of the current players have played in SC game, those that came before them were frequent participants! 5. Did I mention that they have some dudes that can flat out run (i.e. athletes?) Things in Aledo's Favor: 1. Very disciplined team that is very well coached. 2. Defending state champions with a 90% of team having made the trip last year to Austin for that win.....they know what to expect. Most guys that will be playing tonight are currently 30-1 over the last two seasons, with the one loss comgin against County 5A rival Weatherford in delayed game due to a very heavy rainstorm where the game was finally finished after midnight in OT. 3. Have already played and won a game at Jerry World against there biggest rival...Stephenville last year in OT. Trip is only 45 mins from Aledo. 4. Have proven they can come from behind in the 4th if needed. 5. JGray is reported to be back to 100% and QB Bishop has matured significanlty through the last 5 weeks. 6. Crowd.....Aledo travels very well and the fact that this game is in the metroplex is definately a plus. I will not be surprised if there are 12,000 to 15,000 people there pulling for Aledo. We sold out of our allotment of tickets. -

How is LM's RB doing? I heard he was banged up a little.
Here's where I don't know enough about Aledo...LM has the talent on defense to stop Gray straight up without any gimmicks, not saying they will but....if they do does Aledo have enough other options on offense to still win. Aledo could completely shut down Tim Wright and still give up 50.
No,we do not have anyone else on our team except for Gray. We are very one dimensional. But please, make sure you do not let anyone from La Marque know this! -
LaMarque vs. Aledo State Title Predictions?

Aledo only has to travel 30 miles to get to Jerry World, while La Marque drives almost 5 hours. Aledo played and won a game against their biggest rival in Jerry World on their way to State Championship last year. I think these two factors will help push Aledo ahead on this one. -

I could see the state champ coming out of there easy.
I wish haha it could happen what about Aledo :D :o
Brenham could (and probably should) have beat them last year. They're not '08-'09 Lake Travis.
Just curious? What is this based on when you say probably should have beat them?
Welcome Aledo Fan. Not sure if Brenham should have beat Aledo, but they certainly could have. When you get to the state final or semi final game every game is winnable. It just comes down to what team is better on any given night. BTW, I would REALLY like to see your running back versus the Dayton Bronco defense.
Gray is the real deal, he showed out in the CS game :)
I agree 100%. You do not make it to the Semi-Finals or especially the finals in the Texas State Playoffs unless you deserve to be there. I was not comfortable with our situation last year until we scored the final touchdown. Not only did it increase our lead but it just sucked the air out of the Cub offense. Man they were scary and that was a great game. JGray is a joy to watch. Each week he pulls off a run that can only be described as truly special. He continues to improve with each game. My only fear going into the playoffs is that we again have not been tested since district play began. I am cautiously confident that Aledo will make it to the final game and come out on top! GO BEARCATS........DO IT AGAIN IN 2010!

Should hear a lot from both these teams over the next couple of years. The fact that we are going to get to enjoy Mr. Grey and Mr. Bishop for the next two years is amazing. There are numerous other juniors and sophomores that will be returning as well. What is going to hurt is having to replace Michael Williams, Danny Heiss and Dillon Hawkins. They may not get all the praise that JGrey does but they have been keys to our success. And how about Trey Ozee. He is fantastic young man that is a real leader on this team. Not a lot of players would have responded the way he did when he went out early in the season and by the time he came back found that his job had been given to a sophomore. He certainly contributed in his new position for the rest of the season and was a big part of the overall success. The fact that he got to start his last high school game in his old position and then put us in a position to win was just a fantastic end for a great kid! Brenham was a great team with great fans and I would not be surprised if our paths cross again over the next few years. Congrats for a fantastic season!
