  1. Is Smith pitching for Ned? Who is pitching for Montgomery (Heard?)? Go 'Dogs.
  2. No, the guy who pitched against Cleveland (in relief) just hit a 3 run bomb off you....
  3. Why go to Barrerra when you're down 6-1? Don't you need him for a game 3?
  4. First, I am not a fan of a 1 game series (I prefer 2 out of 3 and, once they make me King of the UIL, I am going to have a double elimination state tourney, too). With that being said, the rules are the rules...and everyone plays by them. I also do not agree that, by choosing a 1 game series, you concede that the other team is better. What you are doing is 'turning up the heat' and gambling (if you will) that your guys can handle the pressure better. That is clearly Griff's point (since he has 2 top quality starters in Womack and Ehlert). Good luck Bears.
  5. If a 1 game 'playoff' is such a disservice then why is the state tournament not a double elimination event? The state semifinals and finals are 1 game playoffs.
  6. Best to him at LSU-E....more importantly, best of luc to him Thurs. vs. Brenham. Go Bears.
  7. Congrats to Matison...great kid. Great pitcher. Cards got a steal on this guy....wait and see.
  8. Who chose a 1 gamer? What a game -- this may very well be for ALL the marbles. And I'm outa town on Thursday...that is just not fair. I can't believe Griff didn't consult with me before picking the schedule.
  9. It starts with pitching: Silsbee has both starters back (Schooling and McDonald) along with a fair # of position players (see post above). They may be the early district favorite. Bridge City returns their 3 and 4 (Stringer and Meeks)...but remember they were 3 and 4 behind 2 very good pitchers (Angelle and Haymon). They also have the best position player (Dishon) as well as a lot of power from C Jackson. Jasper is losing Alvis but returns Reagan and Parsons (also has Hart at SS). Their best weapon is their coach. HJ has some pitching coming back but is losing their ace in Roebuck. Look for Treece to be there #1???? They do have a lot of offense returning which they'll need. Should be a heckuva race. Plus there'll be some surprises (HF?).
  10. Most coaches keep stats and, by year end, provide to players. Heck, just have the coaches email 'em to us. We just need info as we start making up the list and get down to some voting, etc.
  11. BC starts Angelle in game 1. First, he wants a 1-0 lead. Second, history teaches us that most of his games only go 5 innings. He could be ready for some relief work if a Saturday game 3 is necessary. Of course, Angelle only threw 3 vs. Kirbyville. He should be rested. As far as BH, that is a closer call. If you don't start Hales, you might as well throw your #4 and simply give up, hope for a miracle, etc. On the other hand, throwing Hales and losing is an awful deep hole. Personally, I'd throw Hales and tell my kids to stand up to BC and all its hype. I'd also work all week on bunting and just putting the ball in play (hoping BC kicks it around some on defense).
  12. Also need to add Hart (SS) from Jasper.
  13. All good nominees. I think Riley at Woodville also deserves consideration.
  14. My bad on my ballot -- should've included Robbins at Nederland.
  15. Falgout of WB -- hits .413 in district and .375 for the year. Led Bruins in RBIs.
  16. Lycan from WB (soph). .344 for the year and .310 in district.
  17. Add to the list: Serna @ WB - .398 for season and .385 in district. Armstrong @ WB - .390 for season and .350 in district. Mosley @ Nederland - no stats on him. Johnson @ HF - surprised no one nominated him yet.
  18. How should we define this position? Is it someone who is a 2-way player (pitch and another position) or is it someone who played several positions over the course of a season?
  19. Add Thad Lycan of WB. Started all year @ 3B/SS and hit .344 (.310 in district).
  20. Three others deserve consideration: Murphy @ West Brook - .413 for season and .390 in district. Laird @ Nedlerand - do not have official stats for him but (per previous post) was co-MVP of district? Riley @ Woodville - no stats but I would have to think he is MVP of that district.
  21. Ferguson @ West Brook hit .446 for season/.452 in district and led Bruins in many offensive categories (ave., OB, hits, runs, etc.). Also played near-flawless defense.
  22. Not meant to be all-inclusive but a short ballot might be: 1. Griff @ LCM 2. Trawhorn @ Silsbee 3. Moses @ HJ 4. Landry @ HF 5. Bryant @ BC
  23. BH has an interesting strategy question...do they throw Hales against Angelle in game 1? Most people in district didn't throw their ace against BC. Maybe BH follows suit and tries to win game 2 (Hales vs. Haymon) then win a game 3 matchup. If you lay down in game 1, do you throw your #2 or your #4. The only thing you want to try and do is make Angelle throw 7 so you don't see him for a few innings on Saturday. This all assumes that Hales can beat Haymon which is a huge assumption. Haymon is a very good pitcher in his own right. The other side of the argument is that BH shouldn't show a weakness, throw Hales against Angelle, and play to win from moment one. Of course, BC could always throw Haymon in game 1....hmmmmm.
