  1. LCM is literally on fire right now and no one is hotter than Ehlert. I personally think (unless others submit someone else) that Clayton is the 'Player of the Week'. Of course, I also hold the personal opinion that he is he best overall player in the area so that just makes sense to me.

WB, both individually and as a team, have been smoking the ball all season ... except for the last 3 games in Victoria. They actually scored their runs with 'inventive' base running and, quite frankly, a lot of errors by their opponents. Hopefully, that ends on Tuesday when district starts.

As far as BC, they have scored a bunch of runs ... but they haven't exactly played a very rough schedule. Maybe we'll see some top line pitching (on both sides) this Friday when Jasper and BC hook up.

Of course, and back to the nominations, you also should consider Kevin Angelle. Another high strikeout performance this weekend and hit a HR. He is worthy of consideration.

Still, its awful hard to beat Ehlert with last week's winner (Murphy) a worthy second.

  2. WEST BROOK NOMINEES (alpha order):

    Tim Ferguson: 6/12 .500 5 R, 3 RBI (2B)

    David Murphy 8/16 .500 4 R, 6 RBI (2 x 2B, HR [GS])

    (and complete game win vs. Vic Memorial -- 1 R, 5 H, 8 K, 0 BB)

    Mark Serna 7/17 .412 1 R, 2 RBI (3 x 2B)

    (and win in game 1 vs. Laredo LBJ -- 3 IP, 1 R, 4 K)

    Josiah Svoboda -- CG shutout in championship game (0 R, 4 H, 5 K, 0 BB)

Again, some deserving candidates from the Bruins.

  5. I still think LCM is the most talented (and best) team in 20-4A. I would love to see tonight's game in Jasper (Jasper w/ Alvis vs. LCM w/Ehlert) -- whatta matchup.

The team that no one (including me in preseason) gives a lot of credit to is Nederland. The knocked off a very good Clear Creek team yesterday and lost in extra innings to another very good 5A team (Deer Park). Nederland had the lead in the 7th, Deer Park tied and then won it in the 8th on a passed ball/wild pitch. They are young and very well coached and just play hard.

Then you get to the PNG issue -- they are just playing bad right now. Getting Buchanan back would help (although the Carnahan kid has played very well in his place) -- Blake is just a leader. With that being said, are they still better than the rest of the district (Vidor, Ozen, Lumberton, Central)? Sure. And I think their pitching (Harwood, Powell, Mire and McInnis) carries them to the playoffs. It will be a lot closer, though, than everyone (me included) thought before the season started.

Can't wait until next week. And, remember -- this all goes away if PNG catches lightning in a bottle and beats LCM on Friday. Whew....that would get all the NDNs up on the board here, now wouldn't it?

  6. I know, I know....PNG slumps some and Vidor wins a weak-field tourney so now there's a Big 4. But, that's what is great about this game and this time of year....you THINK you got a chance and that makes everyone happy and excited to be at the ballpark. Heck, I even think my kid's team is gonna win state....

  7. West Brook opens Victoria ISD tournament with run rule 13-1 win over 5A Laredo LBJ.

    LBJ 0 1 0 0 0 = 1 2 5

    WB 4 3 6 0 X = 13 14 0

    WP - Serna (2-2) 3 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 2 BB

    Crawford 2 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 0 BB

    HR - Wallace

    3B - Lycan 2, Ferguson

    2B - Serna, Falgout

    Calvert 1-2, BB, 3 R

    McBryde 0-1

    Lycan 3-3, 2 R, 2 x 3B, 4 RBI

    Serna 3-3, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI

    Falgout 1-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI

    Ferguson 2-3, 1 R, 3B, 2 RBI

    Armstrong 1-2, SAC, 1 R, 1 RBI

    Chaisson 0-0

    Murphy 1-3

    Wallace 2-2, 1 R, HR, 2 RBI

    Schwarzlose 0-1

    Balfanz, 0-2, 2 x RE, 2 R

    Crawford 0-1

Next up for Bruins is a DH tomorrow vs. St. Joseph's and host Victoria Memorial.
