  1. Both Ewings continue their success:

Michael Ewing is full time starter in LF for So Miss Golden Eagles (C-USA). He leads in hitting (.353) and RBI (6) with 1 HR. They are 4-2 on the season.

James Ewing has become an INF starter over past 4 games for undefeated and nationally ranked Arkansas Razorbacks. He is hitting .500 (8-16) with 5 RBI.

Again, keep it up, guys !!!!

  2. Yeah, its kinda hard not seeing HF moving up on the list after Week #1. To say they have exceeded expectations is an understatement...

#2 LCM loses to HF and has 2 other one run games

#4 PNG loses twice in La Porte tourney (shoddy defense does them in)

#6 Nederland loses in The Woodlands TOurney ...in a close 4-2 games vs. State 5A #1 team (Woodlands)

I think the results from week 1 show that there are a lot of good baseball teams in SE Texas on any given day.

  3. Friday's results from Round Rock:

West Brook ties San Antonio O'Connor 11-11 and defeats Temple 10-2.

    WEST BROOK 11 SA O'CONNOR 11

    Ferguson 1-2, 2 RBI, 2 R, 2B

    Armstrong 2-3, 3 RBI, 1 R

    Balfanz 1-3, 2 RBI, 2B

    WEST BROOK 10 TEMPLE 2

Josiah Svoboda scattered 5 hits as Bruins held on to this early lead, defeating Temple 10-2. Offensive highlights:

    Calvert 1-3, 2 R

    Lycan 1-3, 1 R

    Serna 1-4, 2 R, 2B

    Falgout 1-4, 1 RBI

    Ferguson 2-4, 2 RBI, 2 R

    Wallace 2-4, 2 RBI, 1 R, HR

    Armstrong 2-3, 2 RBI, 1 R

Congrats to soph Todd Wallace for hitting 1st varsity HR over LF wall in 6th inning.

Bruins conclude play on Saturday with DH. Bruins record is 4-0-1.

  4. Cen Tex Hardball Classic hosted by Round Rock Westwood HS consists of 12 teams, including Beaumont West Brook:

    GAME 1

    West Brook 15 17 2

    Arlington Bowie 8 13 2

    WP - Doubt (1-0)

Offense: Calvert (4 hits); Falgout (3 RBI); Ferguson (2 2B). Six Bruins had multi-hits (Calvert, Serna, Falgout, Ferguson, Wallace and Armstrong). Wallace and Murphy had 2 RBI each.

    GAME 2

    RR Westwood 1 4 0

    West Brook 3 5 1

    WP - Murphy (1-0): 7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 5 K, 1 BB (an outstanding CG by Murphy)

Offense: Bruins score all 3 runs (and get 4 of 5 hits) in 2nd inning courtesy of RBI double from Ferguson and RBI singles from Murphy and Balfanz. Falgout added a double and Lycan a single to round out offense.

West Brook now 3-0 with 2 games tomorrow as tourney continues.

  5. Saw this game. A superb pitching duel through 5 innings turned into a run fest as West Brook outlasted Ozen 7-4.

Mark Serna (WB) and Josh Gardiner (Ozen) threw zeros at each for 4 innings before Gardiner exited. In the 6th, WB got on the board on a Ferguson single, walk to Wallace and 2-out, 2 RBI single from Chaisson. After Ozen scored without hit in the 6th (courtesy of 4 walks and a WP), WB scored 5 in the 7th with RBIs from Ferguson (Sac Fly), Wallace (2 run single) and Chaisson (another 2 run single). When Ozen rallied in the 7th, Murphy entered at P to earn the save.

Tough win for WB. Ozen played very well until a couple of fielding blunders opened the door in the 7th. J osh Gardiner pitched very, very well for them (and contributed an RBI single).

  6. AREA CODE:

The players from this area who were invited were Angelle (BC), Dishon (BC), Dugas (LCM), Ehlert (LCM), Ferguson (WB), Harwood (PNG), Mire (PNG) and Schnieder (LCM). These invites were issued through MLB scouting. Of this group, the following were invited back for the 'finals', a game played at UT: Angelle, Dishon, Ehlert, and Ferguson. None of those 4 made the final roster.

I don't think I can quarrell with the fact that none of them didn't make the team, but I probably couldn't quarrell with the fact had any of them made it. It was an event with very talented players and the final roster had very talented players.

I will comment that I do not think Angelle or Ehlert were 'left off' the roster for political reasons (nor do I think Dishon or Ferguson were 'left off' for political reasons, either -- they were 2007s and a year young, although 2 other 2007s from Houston did make the team). I also think that any of the 4 would have acquitted themselves quite well had they made it. I admit that I didn't agree with all of the roster selections but that doesn't mean it wasn't a good process.

Area Code is a matter of exposure, not wins/losses. All of the kids there got increased exposure to a great number of colleges and MLB scouts. It was, and remains, a great opportunity.

  7. Cards way too much in this one. It was never close as they played everyone including some 'new' JV kids brought up for the playoffs. BC made 12 threes and simply dominated Hull-Daisetta.

It starts for real Tuesday vs. Cleveland @ West Brook High School.

Trivia: if BC wins Tuesday, it will be the 1st time in school history they have won a basketball playoff game.

  8. Saw 3 innings of BC-Central (delayed start due to Central bus caught in I-10 traffic). BC led 3-0 at the time but did not hit the ball very well (2 of 3 runs scored on catcher E, passed ball). BC had 3 hits (2b by Dishon, 1b by Angelle and 2b by Jackson). Angelle did not pitch nor did any of basketball players participate.
