People keep on mentioning the 7 on 7 success of LCM, which is impressive, but what most people fail to notice about this game is that PNG's offensive line has 5 starters that all started more than a single game on varsity at one point last season (2 started the entire year). The defensive line also has 3 returning starters (2 first team all district) and 2 more that have varsity experience. The game is won and lost in the trenches, with that being said, Bertrand will probably run for just as many yards as Harmon did against LCM last year, and the pressure on Gonzales will be too much for him the play 7 on 7, hence the only success being on the WR screen last year. It should be an exciting game, but don't look for it to be too close in the very end.

I agree.  I only said that maybe their success will transform into momentum and confidence.  I never said it would make them the best team in 20-4A or anything.

Cherokee will grow on you living in an area w/a pretty good team.I lived in Alvarado Tx for awhile(3) yrs.And they've been to the playoff's 14 times since 88 and those Indians although are spirited fans can hold a candle to what PNG fans/band/cheer bring.Check it out sometimes-put on some purple go to a game and it'll grow on you .

I like Cherokee and i'm going to S.A. but i'll be in green.  ::) ;D
    Catchy little tune, that Cherokee.

The easiest way to get to Dayton from Brenham is to catch 290 and take it all the way to Houston. Then, take the North Beltway on around to Hwy. 90 and go east. That will run you right into Dayton. Or you can get on Hwy 105 and take it all of the way to Cleveland, then get on 321 and run into Dayton. This way may be a little longer, but you will not have to pay tolls like you will if you take the first way and go on Beltway 8.

    As for restaurants:

Los Compadres is the most preferred (by the people of Dayton) of the two Mexican food restauants in town, but Jose's is just as satisfying.

The Branding Iron has about the same cuisine as K-Bob's in Brenham.

We also have a place called the Country Kitchen that has a full menu all day (I recommend the pancakes, even for supper).

Of course we have several fast food restaurants in Dayton: Burger King, McDonalds, Sonic, Subway, Hartz Chicken, and Dairy Queen.
Hope this helps Brenhamfan.

Sure does, thanks.  I guess i'll leave early to avoid Houston traffic and get something to eat before watching y'all handle Ike.  ;)

The Angleton vs Dayton game should be a dan dan dandy!!!!

That Angleton/Dayton game should be entertaining, but tough for the Wildcats playing @ Dayton. But that Angleton/Friendswood game in week 0 will be great game to start off the season for both teams. Then the Cats turn around and play the 5A regional finalist Brazoswood Buccaneers, so it's going to be a tough opening 3 weeks. Oh and then after playing Dayton, we'll have Alief Elsik next. Man, what a schedule!

I agree.  That is a guantlet.
  6. Last game of the season being on a Thursday, will give us an extra day to rest our players before the 1st round of the playoffs.  Make sure everyone is healthy against Willis or whoever we get matched up with.  So how do I get to Dayton from Brenham, and any recommendations as far as resturaunts there?  I plan on Catching the Ike game.

Harmon wasn't the fastest in the district either and how many yards did he have against LCM????
Not sure how many he had against LCM, but he had like 7 yards against us... ;D ;)

BrenhamFan,  Why is it that you feel the need to hijack threads, and start new threads, with the sole purpose of bringing up that game....yet again. O.K. everyone...Brenham beat PNG last yr!  You can let it go now.  It's a new year.
Thanks for informing me about the year.  Anyways, to answer your question, hijacking wasn't my intention.  I was simply joking, but to stay on topic, Harmon is the only reason y'all pulled out the win last year.  I'm sure Faircloth will have a plan, and y'all have a tough non district schedule to prepare for district this year.  Problem is, the teams PNG play early on are run based teams.  LCM is the opposite, returning a group of receivers and a good QB.  The PNG secondary better be ready.  Success from 7 on 7 should give the bears a boost too.  Only downside, is they have a new DC, but y'all don't meet till 10/22/10, so they will have time to work the kinks out and get use to things.  Should be a shoot out...

    That's just a touch misleading.

If a team is steadily losing enrollment over a period of time, then it makes more sense to use the years that are extremely close to the drop.

Let's say Humble 6 years ago really did have good 5A numbers, so that's not pertinent.
Six years from now, Humble might be low even for 4a numbers so that is not really pertinent any more.

The important numbers are to see what they did when they were barely hanging on to the large classification, then see how they did when they were at the very top of their lower classification and still had the residue of players having played the larger classifications left over roaming their halls.

Jasper in their last 3 years of 4A ball went 6-4, 3-8 and 12-2.
Jasper in their first 3 years of 3A ball went 12-2, 11-3 and 12-4

That's a jump from 21-14 to 35-9.  They went to the semi-finals twice and the finals once in their first three years in 3A.

    Look at Longview.
Last year in 5A they went 12-2.  They outscored their opponents 403-224 and lost in the quarterfinals.
First year in 4A they went 14-2.  They outscored their opponents 613-325 and lost only to 5A Allen and juggernaut Lake Travis.
Second year 4a they went 14-2.  They beat the tar out of everyone except 5A Lufkin and powerhouse LT again.

    In their 5A district, they won by 17, 8, 4, 8 and 25
    In their 4A district, they won by 34, 19, 44, 29, 14 and 27.
    In 2009 in district, they won by 3, 45, 44, 17, 45 and 49

They were good all three years, don't get me wrong.  They went from going undefeated in district with a 12 point victory margin to going undefeated with a 27 point victory margin to going undefeated with a 34 point victory margin.

Again, the only times they lost the last two years were to 5A teams and Lake Travis.
Longview was 4A last year, not 5A.
