All the show boating is because of TV/NBA, that being said. Here is my take on the game. First I want to tell a story that the Kountze fans do not want to hear. In 1978 Orangefield beat Kountze in football 99-0. Believe me they returned the favor in basketball the same year. Just not as bad but all the same. In that football game Orangefield took their starters out in the second half we were up 56-0 at the half I think. I do have the article but dont feel like finding it. In the second half we never passed and ran a qb sneak for most of the second half. My point is these kids who do not see as much playing time, how can you ask them to lay down? This is their time to show the coach that hey I can play. If you want to lay down then leave the starters in. That is more respectiful. In my opinion HJ did nothing wrong. Hamphire Fannett quit just like Kountze did in 1978.
I agree 100 percent. No one could say this better.

And thanks (edited for spelling) for posting just when you have negative things to say. Have a good one! Long live Gov. Jesse Ventura. Edited to add this statement: I guess when Swag and Walter aren't around, you have to jump and instigate with someone. Admit it guys, you aren't giving any team a bad rap, are you?
As much as I hate to admit it coop this post is pretty accurate!!!!!!!! -

one mans opinion. Take it or leave it. His analysis of the first Kountze-HJ game was the same way. All about what Kountze did not do. P.S. Just trying to get this thing stirred up nice and early this morning! LOL! -
Great write up Gabe.... My take on Ofield: OF did a good job defensively holding the Hawks to 54 (edited from 56) points. Turner had 8 and Ricossa had 7 so no problems on the defensive end. OF is a outside shooting team and they died by it tonight. Ricossa had 2 PFs in the 1st QTR and they never attacked him to get him in foul trouble. OF shot 32% from the floor and finally started driving to the hole in the 3rd but they never did it consistently after that. Hayes had 16 boards, most on the defensive end. Ricossa cleaned up on the defensive end because OF never had anyone rebounding. Anderson & Prudhomme did good jobs scoring in the 1st half. Talent is there for OF...Looks like they are going to have to beat WO-S twice. Well officiated game.
I am going to break down coops UNBIASED analysis of the HJ-OF Game. First Paragraph. First sentence is saying something positive about OF. Second sentence a negative about HJ and positive about OF. Second Paragraph First sentence an excuse for OF. Second sentence another excuse for OF. Thir Paragraph First sentence excuse for OF. Second sentence positive for OF and a positive for HJ that was nulified by another excuse for OF. Fourth paragraph First sentence is the first time something good was said about HJ without it being followed by a negative comment or an excuse for OF. And coop wonders why people think his bias is against HJ. This says it all. Just admit it coop and it would be better. By reading your analysis this win for HJ had nothing to do with what HJ did and everything to do with what OF did not do! -
We are still waiting for the FINAL PLAYER RANKINGS from last season..........I guess you decided NOT to post in since you really had no choice but to name Benard as the #1 player since he was 3A Player of the Year!!!! Hope we don't have to wait as long as we have for those rankings!!! ;D ;D ;D ;)
yet he was behind hayes last year. maybe that means good things for jacoby!!!!!!

As long as Silsbee is the best team.
Why wouldn't PAM be the best team?
PAM would be the best team and IMHO Walker would be the best player. That coming from an HJ fan!
He isnt in a love fest with Kountze he prolly just gets tired of hj fans (not talking about you) running there mouth about HJ this and HJ that lol
No lovefest with kountze. Just a lovefest with Brey. They fact that Brey is ahead of Walker is a joke as well. Walker is the best player in the area no doubt.

Rankings are great besides a few things but no one is ever going to agree with everything and that is the beauty of it. Fact of the matter is you could poll every coach in this area and if you ask him if he would rather have turner or hayes it would not even be close. Last year coop ranked hayes ahead of bernard..........that was a joke as well. It happens all of the time but the truth is it is no big deal. This helps promote kids and that is what this is about. It is clear who coop wants to promote and that is his job and not ours!
Blue, I have seen my fair share of basketball in my lifetime. All kinds, from "high flying" to "stall ball". I have seen state championship basketball, all classifications, for 38 straight years now. I think I know what I am talking about. I have seen teams that play the "high flying" style win state championships while being able to let up when things got out of hand. They had that ability and I believe Yates has that ability too. Wise just chooses to keep the pedal to the metal, no matter what. No excuse for that. I am sorry, but what is so hard to understand. A team is up by 88 points at halftime and continues to press the entire game, is running up the score intentionally. It is completely unnecessary. Has nothing to do with keeping the teams edge, or preparing them for playoffs, or preparing them for life, or.......... GET REAL!!! ::) You'll never convince me that letting up on the pressure is going to cost those guys anything. Self glorification, that's all it is. Like I said, I have no problem with someone scoring 170 points and I do not want teams to "quit" scoring. I just have a problem with a team that continues to trap and press when up by over 100 points. Totally unnecessary.
All of that is your opinion and that is fine. No need to make others feel like their opinion is not valid. I see your side of it but simply do agree. I see this as a never say die system and kids who if they are let up for one minute may let up for the year. It is a mentality and I believe he is trying to get them to buy into it. I see your side. Simply disagree.

When I say "they", I am meaning the Yates coach in particular.
For what it is worth is here is my 2 cents.......... These kids are doing what they are told so anyone bashing them needs to stop. If you want to bash someone bash the coach. Some people believe he is self promoting. Whatever you want to call it the guy is winning. However, this day in age there is so many bad things going on with kids and coaches especially in this part of Houston and this coach is positively effecting these kids lives by teaching them to work hard at all times and never stop. If this team is truly as deep as it is it is not fair to ask the kids at the end of the bench to not play hard and not do the same things that they bust their butts in every day in practice and all year long to prepare. There will be a games in the playoffs where they will look back at everytime they continued to play hard for the entire game and it will be beneficial to them. This is a philosophy that these kids buy in to and it will not only help them in their run at a state title and national championship but it will help them in life. When you have a philosophy like this you don't see a score on the scoreboard or a time on the clock. You play hard from start to finish and there are no ifs and or buts about it. Many people go back to HJ in 91 and 92 and go ahead and look at those kids success in life. It is like no other high school basketball team you have ever seen. So before you criticize them let us all remember that teams like this are very rare and as a coach when you have them you do what you can to make sure they never stop becuase with kids this talented it is easy to turn it off and if they turn it off at the wrong time it could be a chance missed for them.
Good post Karma...I'm trying hard to understand the mindset and although I do not agree with what the COACH did I certainly understand the logic, I saw them play this weekend on TV, undoubtably the best highschool basketball team I have ever seen, those kids can fly.
I cannot say that I agree or disagree with what the coach has done because I do not know WHY he is doing it. If he is indeed doing it because he wants his kids to buy in to a philosophy and never stop(this is why I believe he is doing it) than I applaud him because never stopping in the real world brings huge success and will teach these kids huge lessons in life. If he is doing it to promote himself than I disagree with it. I believe and have to believe he is doing it for the kids. Also, this is one of those deals that until you are a part of something like it than it is hard to understand why they do it. Once you are a part of something like this you understand it.
Bluedove is right, though. The area is VERY down on talent compared to recent years and even more so compared to past years. Look at the D1 talent in PA from 98-00 and the talent the first four or so years at Ozen. There were like 10 D1's in just those two groups. I understand that talent moves in cycles, but we're just in a down period right now. No shame in that.
Our 4A/5A talent is down but the 3A and below talent has been as good as it has every been over the past few years and it shows because every single year we are having multiple representatives at regionals and someone is always at the state tournament.
HJ spent a huge amount of emotion on Saturday night after a very tough game against Kountze. Couple that with the missing post player and the game gets a lot closer than it should be. EC has a very good young coach but the pieces of the puzzle may not be there for a regional run. They will be in the playoff hunt in their district race with Anahuac and Hardin.
I don't mean this year. I just mean in the future. This coach gets alot out of his players. May not be a regional run this year but in the future there will be many.

JMO
The same tourney EC was in??? Likely excuse
No need for excuses. We know who was missing in the game. HJ wins in a very tough rivalry game. EC is very well coached. In case no one remembers this team(EC) did nothing but get better as the year went on last year and they will do it again this year. They have a great young coach who will have this program consistantly competing for regional titles shortly Hide and watch.
