No coach in his right mind can justify a Defensive MVP first baseman out of the the 150 plus participants in 19-4a. How the heck does anybody think the ball arrived in his mitt? Call it what it is all these awards are soley based on offensive production as one coach explained to me and offensive only. Defense has no place in the minds of our coaches and fans. As speckledtackle indicated the honorable mentioned candidate owes the prom kid a special thanks for being able to garner enough PT to recive his trophy.
It's a shame when awards are posted after every season, someone has to always act like an a@#hole. You quote Coach Byrd's "Wow" saying like you know him well. Coach Byrd has helped coach (as you call) the Defensive MVP first baseman for 4 years. I do know Coach Byrd and I believe his comment would be WOW its about time this kid gets recognized. I guest all the scoops, diving catches and throw outs he had this year had nothing to do with him receiving the award. If the award was given out based off offensive production as you state, do your homework he has the stats to back it up. Congrats to all the players.
Lyday is a great choice for Def MVP-----fine young man and a very good ball player I know the kid well. He plays hard and is solid. The only coaching he got was from his dad. He was moved to first his jr. year because there was no opening behind the plate. Oh yea he is about 6ft 4in tall big target at first
2. Stalbaum had a great run at BH as playoffs 10 consecutive years is impressive. Having said that...new blood can be a good thing as well. I hope the new coach will continue to build on the tradition there and understands the difference between a "team" and a "program"----some schools just do not seem to get that. I think the Board of Trustees does understand the difference and that is one of the reasons for all the changes. Good luck in the search.
 3. BH 0088 you are on the money about doing what it takes to get better---most area schools baseball boys also play football and weather we like it or not most spend a disproportionate amount of time on football. After all that is where the glory is. I know there are some kids that play summer baseball and get ready for football at the same time but those guys are few and far between.
 4.

We felt that the ball that basically bounced over the first basenan's head could not be ruled and error because of the "bad hop". It was in no way a routine play.
I disagree completely. Not that it matters but the ball didn't bounce over his head. It was a routine play. No way that ball should get into the outfield. At worst you knock down. It went right past him about waste high. He tried to glove it instead of getting in front of the ball. A guy sitting next to me made the comment " If I'm Butler I throw the next pitch into the pressbox if they score that one a hit." The play by your 3rd baseman in the 1st inning that was ruled an error with him making the play in front of SS was more difficult than the play at first.
OK. We'll call it a wash and Butler's 3 runs were all earned.
IMO both plays were errors---GCM would have to play a nearly flawless game to win this series as Nederland was clearly the better team and an error-less is what GCM needed but did not get. Errors happen in baseball---good luck to the Dogs
 5. That was a key mistake no doubt about it. The coach waving frantically for him to run to first. I thought the biggest mental error came in the first when the BH batter missed a hit and run sign---left the base runner out to dry. A very exciting game to watch---congrats to GCM.
 6.
Is Hester going to be available for the game? I hope it's not true because you never want to see this but I heard he may be done for the year.
Hester or not Vidor takes this one
 7. This is gonna be a great game. BH had better not underestimate the coaching at GCM. I watched them this year and they are very well coached. BH has some big sticks and their pitching has improved. I would not bet the farm either way but I will go with BH in a hard fought game.
 8. The fact is the enrollment at Dayton has been around 5000 with a slow DECLINE for the past 7 years. We will be steady for 2-5 years with vigorous growth expected after that.
 9.

Dayton is good because Jerry Stewart developed a program.
It takes talent to win. Your crazy if you don't think the developement of the Dayton area is a big factor in their winning.
Are you saying that only growing communities can be winners on the field?
 10. I think you are correct. There will be bumps this season---new coach and a new system will bring some big victories but also some big mistakes. The future is bright at BH as some very good talent is on the way just don't look for miracles the first season.
 11. Dayton over NF 12-0. Phillip Kness gets the shutout for the Broncos.

We hope for the best.
Frank had "Tommy John's" surgery yesterday Mar 26th--Dr. Lintner said UCL looked like mashed potatoes and not doing anything at all. He used a tendon from the hamstring and said it was very thick and strong. Surgery was very successful and now comes the rehab and a long road back.
 13. Thanks for the support---a tough break but that's baseball. Hopefully just a screw in the bone but we will know more this Tuesday.
 14. Considering this district and with 4 teams making the playoffs then BH has to be a shoe-in---new coach or not you have to be really bad to not get in
 15. Isn't this the year the Panthers were supposed to be ready to play the Broncos?

Some are leaving on their own (handwriting on the wall) while others who are doing a fine job are being fired. I would like to thank all of the coaches for their service, whether they leave on their own or by force. There are a lot of people who appreciate the profession and know the time and effort that go into it. Thank you Coaches Price, Byrd, Nunez, Parsons, Riley for the time you gentlemen have spent coaching and mentoring our youth. (Forgive me if I leave anyone out). I know others are being reassigned so not all will be leaving much to the disappointment of the brilliant minds that seem to frequent the BH threads on SETXSPORTS these days. And I feel for the girls and boys BB coaches, because the ruling elite in BH will not tolerate losing while their children are on the team. That just will not do! Make no mistake, this has nothing to do with Coach Gage, this comes from "The Furor" and his seven member SS panel. I could go on and on about why this is wrong, take for instance the treatment of the girls BB coach during the season and the recent disrespect for his family and home after the recent playoff loss. Disgusting. Maybe you people of the "NEW BH" as one of you recently posted can explain why coach Parsons is being ask to leave without explanation. I have heard nothing but praise for the results he has gotten out of the kids he has worked with.. girls and boys. Like I said I could go on, but what would be the point. Coach Gage, you will have my full support, because you are coaching the children of BH. Just be careful, you are coaching and overseeing some all-americans here, if you don't believe me .. just ask their parents. Stick to your guns and run it like YOU want to. Well... back to grading those papers!
Don't know who you are but you nailed right on. You have some reliable sources. BH needs to watch out because if they don't handle this the right way of firing people they will be handing out more payoff money or getting sued for wrongful termination of employment. Can't fire people for no reason.
In the state of Texas you can fire people for no reason.
Not in the Education system.  You'll get yourself in a jam real quick!  Unless you are on a probationary contract which most are not.  Here's how it usually goes...  Brand spanking new teachers right out of college get a probationary contract for years 1 and 2.  District policy can go probationary for year 3 if needed and by law may even go prob for yr 4 ( usually doesn't happen though).  After probationary term ends teachers are given a term contract which affords the teacher many more rights as far as employment goes. Districts can opt to give whatever length of term they choose but most opt to give 1yr or 2 yr terms.  Either way your contract will get renewed unless the district can show cause , true cause for non-renewal.  Remember, in Texas  most coaches other than the AD are teacher's first.  Now all that being said.... moving someone from varsity football to 7th grade girls volleyball would send them a pretty strong message that uh you might want to move down the road.  I don't have a clue what is going on in BH  but wish you guys and Coach Gage all the luck as well as Coach Price in his future endeavors.  Usually most A'D's have a couple of guys that they trust and have worked with that they would like to bring with them.  All coaches know this and its not uncommon.  But AD's are people too and usually know that there are good men and women on the old staff and some of them they will keep.  Its usually not about skill but about trust and teamwork.   Just like when a new sheriff gets elected he would like to bring in a new Chief Deputy and maybe a different investigator.
Very well said

 19. I seriously doubt the "bat and gun" story-----I strongly believe that coach/player conflict was the main reason followed by not going to class then being sent along his way......not good any way you want to slice it.
 20.
I'm sure UH is disappointed, but not overly surprised.  It seems he had school issues before he ever enrolled.  They had to know that they were taking a chance on the kid.
I think you are correct---A.J. is one that will either make to the NFL or wind up back in Dayton hanging around in front of Brookshire Brothers grocery talking about how good he was in High School-----------A.J. had better get it together or he is facing a long hard road. I hope this has gotten his attention and he turns it around.
 21.
Crosby is hosting a benefit Saturday for a family dealing with major health issues. The school will sell an autographed New Orleans Saints helmet and a signed Pete Rose jersey among other items. For information, contact Kevin Flanigan at [email protected]. All proceeds benefit the family, whose 11-year-old daughter has Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. Her brother, a sophomore football player at Crosby, was recently was diagnosed with Crohn's disease.
I know this family personally and they are GREAT people. They have dealt with much more than anyone should have to face. Their father is always positive and has never complained. I sincerely hope that the Crosby community turns out in droves-----
