1. 49% from the line???? looks like they need to work more on the FREE throw vs the Dunk O Meter or SMRJ..
2. How much does the school earn for the use of their gym during playoffs?  It looks like they are trying to promote it for the playoffs..
3.
My Bad!  Just having fun with my buddy pete....... This thing needs a spell check on it.  LOL :-[
We don't need Spell Check, we have NASH.  He is all over this website..No forum is safe from his watchful eye... (as I proof read this multiple times to avoid the wrath of NASH).
4. I agree.  I am glad to see them taking baby steps and not crawling.  I would like to see them turn it around and be a constant contender and not just a patsy.  It can only help the district and also improve community support.  Everyone turns out for a winner, but not as many for losers..
5. I'm still here Dove.  I'm glad to see HF creating some ripples in the pool of district basketball.  But I don't want to see ripples, i want to see a huge cannonball type splash.  I like underdogs just as much as the next person.  I think it would be a huge step in HF basketball to get that 3rd place spot.  Earn that spot and win a playoff game!!
6. add 1 to the Dunk O Metter.  Hj up 73-69
7. I stopped by the high school last week and talked to Mr. Nolte about the game.  He said he would not be surprised if the doors were closed as early as 5:15-5:30..
8. NB Dawg is correct.  The smack between these two normally play out on the football forum.  Funny to see it on a basketball forum, but glad to see the two continue the heated exchange, makes for good reading.

13.
I have played in several events that would be considered big stages in the country and world and I have been to even more.  Nothing more I love than a good silsbee vs HJ game.
The Watts backyard.  We had some epic games on that court.
14. no blood no foul.  on a serious note, i would consider a couple of the fouls harder than they need to be. After further review, w/o the distraction of a conf call, i would say 5 would deserve the hook.  We don't foul that hard at the Y.
15. stuck at work.  Do you know if the games are broadcasting online?  if so, website please.
16. i assume you are warming up the pipes...
17. Props to the Nederland kids.  I saw some pictures on an friends FB page where the Nederland kids were wearing a orange and white t-shirt with the number 33 and Smith on the back.  I don't know the entire story but i believe Smith played ball with a lot of the Nederland kids and passed away recently.  Mr Smith was there and posed in picture with the Nederland kids wearing the t shirts. CLASS ACT!!
18. maybe it's just me, but i don't think of "thug" when someone is shoplifting.  Idiot, stupid, or at times, someone who really needs something and can't afford it.  Not saying it is right, but desperate people do desperate things. Thugs, IMO, beat people up, bully, cheap shots, stuff like that.  Like Dove said, i hope Mom and Dad put the fear of God in them.  If i would have done something like that, lights out!  Dad didn't play.
19.

I believe it is even bigger than Silsbee's gym....at least on the home side.
Had to refresh my memory but this thread is supposed to be about the article in the BE. It appears that someone in HJ blames the coaching staff for their not so good seasons in football. Thoughts?
Nope, it was the author of the Letter to the Editor, that suggest HJ needs a new Head Football Coach.  I believe he lives in Beaumont? the rest of us took off on a tangent about support and lack of support, Basketball vs Football, and gym sizes.
20. what difference does it make if it is the 8th or 9th game of the season or the 3rd game of the season?  I went to the Splendora game, about 1.5 or 2 hours away from Sour Lake.  HJ fan support was dismal.  The school bus drivers, a few parents, the principal and crickets.. i could be wrong, but HJ was 1-1 going into that game.  Where was all the support you speak of?  Back to my point, the community and students are not behind the program.  Again, back in the 80's, we would travel to all the away games.  It was not just a few, but a bunch.  It used to be the thing to do on Fridays.  Load up and go to the game.  Now, not so much.  I am not bagging on the football program or the coaches, i am bagging on the lack of support for the two. I am glad you, speechless, support the program.  what about your neighbors and others in the HJ community?
21. "How do you get a winning program? 1.  Get out there for the kids...whether it's Pop Warner, junior high, or high school, or college, whether the record is 10- or 0-10, get out there for them.  These kids and young men get out there and take their health in their hands to give you a game.  They get sprains, broken bones, concussions, and other injuries for no pay, for only the chance to hear a cheer from you every once in a while. 2.  Don't think the new guy will be any better...sometimes, he can be worse.  Support the program, and you would be surprised how much the program improves.  If you haven't done anything but complain, and haven't gone to many games, you have no room to talk.  That would be like a player getting to play first string without attending practice.  3.  Get stupid for your hometown team.  The colors, the spirit stickers, whatever.  Let those kids see the community behind them.  Plain and simple, if they see you don't care...why should they?" My point exactly.  It is not the coach.
22. speechless,  how can you say the community cares? Have you been to a football game lately?  The stands are empty..Some basketball games you can't get into the gym to watch. I never said anything about coaches not caring.  I don't blame the coaches.  They can only work with the students that come out to play.  If the kids do not want to play, you can't make them.  Last i looked, there are 4 tennis courts at the High School and Pinewood still has 18 holes.  If the kids do not want to participate, they won't.  If the kids don't play or start playing at an earlier age, you can't rely on high school coaches to develop them in 4 years.  Little dribblers starts at the elementary school level.  Kids i went to high school with started golf and tennis as young kids.  HS coaches were not around at that age.  You have to have these programs in place at an early age to develop and create success. I would love to see HJ become a competitive football program.  But until it develops and grows at an early age (which it sounds like is happening) HJ Football, and other sports, will remain in the background.
23. as a former student, HJ is and will always be a basketball school.  They have had some recent success in baseball, in the 80's a dominate golf program second to none, and have scratched the football playoffs from time to time.  I went to a couple of football games this year and was shocked to see the lack of support or interest.  I did not play football when i was there, but there was always lots of support for the football program.  I don't think we finished .500, but we still attended the games.  On our varsity BBall squad, i think we had 1 starter from football.  As a prior post read, football is a means to pass the time.  To think that is not true is to have your head in the sand.  You will have some kids that football, or another sport, will be THEIR number one sport, but for the school as a whole, BASKETBALL is the sport.
