Badsanta is missing the point and it is obvious he is not reading the responses.  Yes, i agreed that YATES ran up the score.  I disagree that Kountze ran up the score.  It is in the way the games were played.  YATES continued to press the entire game.  why? was it needed?.  Kountze dropped back into a 2-3 zone. Don't be crazy.  Let's just say your kid (anyones kid) rides the pine all year.  His team is up big time and he gets the chance to play.  do you really think the kid isnt going to try to score?  c'mon.  The coach can call the plays, the defense, tell them to slow it down...but if a bad team makes a bad pass and the kid has a chance at a lay up, do you really think he is going to pull up and set up the four corner offense?  HECK NO>

I agree with Nash.  HJ was outmanned and Cleveland was by far more atheletic.  It came down to lack of discipline and coaching on behalf of Cleveland.  HJ would make a run and Cleveland would get frustrated and make stupid mistakes.  Hopefully they learn from that and improve in those areas.  If so, they will be a tough team to beat.

I just gave you the correct answer per NFHS rules. It is not OLDREF's progative to decide which ones you enforce & which ones you set aside. it appears lt sees everthing as black and white.  lt you may have provided the correct answer per the official rule book, but is it the right answer.  we are talking about HS basketball, not the NBA finals.  i would think the physical welfare of the injured player would be more important than 2 points.  Like i said in my prior post, a twisted ankle or knee or any other injury not involving blood, OLDREF probably wouldnt have stopped the play.  but due to the fact that the girl was bleeding, he went with his gut and stop play to tend to the injured player ASAP.  At least i learned the answer to the correct call, but can't fault OLDREF or anyone else for stopping the play.

I can't blame OLDREF for stopping the play.  i think at that point your natural instincts kick in and you become more concerned with the bloody mouth and the condition of the player vs the fastbreak.  I don't think he would have blown it dead over a twisted ankle, but the flow of blood is why he stopped it. I'm not a ref and i damn sure wont play one on this site.  So, i don't know what the correct or the answer is to the question.

i keep seeing the talk about the refs.  what does the ref have to do with a bad pass?  a turn over, missing free throws, missing open shots.?....they can call all the fouls in the world, good or bad, but still don't have anything to do with the the above mentioned issues.

kid took off his jersey and sat on the end of the bench?  if i would have done that, i wouldn't be worried about my coach, it would be my Dad that would beat my tail on the spot.  It would be like the beat down in Mr. Deeds..

The "redshirt" freshman are the ones that fail 9th grade (held back) and are trying the 9th grade again.  i thought every school did that. ;D

thanks Dove.  It gets old to hear people whine and make excuses for a loss.  we missed free throws, we missed lay ups, our best player was out, the refs killed us....all that really matters at the end of the game is what the scoreboard says.  sure, you may be the better team, but if you don't show it on the scoreboard, it really doesn't matter.  Besides, HS basketball is made up of 20+ games, it really only matters if you lose the last one..

when you get beat, you get beat.  Excuses are for losers.  Take the loss, learn from it, and move on.

It is what it is. If the coach says no long hair, no ear rings, wear a shirt and tie, wear a jacket, whatever..if you want to play, do it. We are talking about high school kids, not pro, premadonna whiney adults.  Prior to my senior year, we didn't have a dress code. When the new coach came in and put his rules into place, not one kid quit. This was back in the days of the mullet and jeri (sp) curls.  Cut it or don't play. We all Played. Lace it up and hit the floor.

I agree, the victorious history of the HJ basketball program can't last forever.  Our golf team is the perfect example.  They went out and won district who knows how many times in a row and even had a run of 7 State Titles in a row during the mid 70's and early 80's.  Now, i have no idea how the golf team is doing or even if they still win district anymore.  What goes up must come down.  But at least the basketball program has always been a winner.  District Champs, Co Champs, or Runners up is the norm.  I can't recall a time when HJ didn't finish in one of the three spots.  It's not a big deal to win district or bi district.  It's expected.  Other schools would love to win a district title or just make the playoffs.  I feel the same way about our Football program.  I'm not saying HJ will never drop, but i just can't imagine dropping to the bottom of the district rankings, and staying there..I would be nice to get some new blood in the mix.  It tends to keep you from overlooking the teams you take for granted.

All this talk about HF is killing me.  When was/did HF become relevant when it came to basketball?  I keep thinking i am reading the Football or Baseball page.  To say that HF will be district champs in the future would be like me spitting out non sense that the HJ Football team will dominate district in the upcoming years.  Neither is going to happen.  Every now and again, HJ football will win just enough games to make it the 3rd team in district.  Same with HF in basketball.  One year not a dynasty made.  In 3 or 4 or 20 years, HF may win a few basketball games and may not be the district step child.  But for now, please know your role.  I will continue to keep my mouth shut when it comes to HJ football and beat my chest when they finally win vs proclaiming their dominance in the distant future and look like the village idiot to everyone reading this page.
