To recap, in three days, Kelly beat the Chronicle's #4 and #5 ranked area teams and lost 2-1 to the #3 team in Greater Houston. Quite a run. They came out and weathered a barrage of shots early in the first half from The Woodland's lady Highlanders... Then on a well executed cross and finish by Tara Austin Kelly drew first blood... Early in the 2nd half The Dawgs were back in the Highlander's box when Yasmine Afshar put a perfect through ball into Prince's feet.. The goalie did all she could to prevent a 2nd goal and put a hit into the back of Prince that would have made Lawerence Taylor jealous and certainly would have drawn a fine from Roger Goodell... I mean a full body NFL form tackle taking Prince to the ground. and NO whistle.. every one was stunned and as we were lulled to sleep by the blatant miss call the Lady Highlanders went the full length of the field and tied the game. Well as Watash said it went another 36 minutes and finally the Highlanders went ahead... Great GAme! The Lady Dawg's did give a very uninspired effort to Cy Creek and got rewarded for it.. A good ol' fashion butt kicking. St Agnes ( Kelly's District nemesis) took the 5A Champs through the full game to a 0-0 draw and lost 2-1 in a shoot out... The aforementioned goalie stuffed 3 shots with shooter attached and redirected the other two... She was a beast and a pleasure to watch! Kelly looks to be tuned up and ready for the play-offs

Awesome game.. glad I weathered the cold and made the trip... did not go in with high expectations but was pleasantly surprised when the Lady Dawgs put on a very tenacious performance to eek out a win. Kelly went down early with a mental breakdown.. after the half Kelly scored early with a shot from Prince that deflected off the goalie and was cleaned up nicely  by a very opportunistic Caitlyn Quinn. Second Kelly goal came shortly after with the tide swinging and while a perfectly positioned Kelly Midfielder Lauren Zeto was lurking 25 yards out from the Clear Springs net when a Clear Springs defender made a costly error while attempting to clear a ball in the box, She in effect passed Lauren the ball at the right tempo and Zeto made her pay by burying it in the back of the net. Clear Springs was not done with nearly 25 minutes left in the game and sent a cross that was deflected off a Kelly defender for their second gift wrapped goal... . Not complaining I would take them too if they would have provided them. Tied 2-2 the game clock expired and both teams left content with the draw only to find out at the exit gate that the game should not end in a draw and should go to a shoot out. ( the 30yd dribble and shoot variety.) Clear Springs went first and missed. Kelly's Zuri Prince went next and hit a shot that deflected off the goalie's gloves and trickled in. Clear Springs  missed another shot that actually found the goal but the 5 second time limit had expired.. Nice work by the Kelly goalie Steph O'Neal. Stephanie then denied the next 3 Clear Springs attempts and Kelly's sole goal would stand to win without having to use the secret weapon Yasmine Afshar. Someone brought a Houston Chronicle paper to the game and Clear Springs was ranked fifth in area Houston 5A, with tomorrow's opponent Fort Bend Austin ranked 4th followed by Saturday's opponent State Champs The Woodland's High School some how falling to a #3 ranking in the same pre-season poll. The Woodland's beat Fort Bend Austin today 5-2.. Should be interesting... The SeaHawks beat New Orleans so anything is possible. and that leads me to my next post.. Shame on Beaumont Enterprise... Omission are Over Sight? ;D

I will say it hear now... pre-season for some and I will say it it in March late season for some. Kelly's Women's program in 2010/11 is still the team to beat.... Next year could be different... But Afshar, Horning, Dykeman, Long and Prince make the difference. Not to mention a new cast of freshman and sophomores that add the necessary depth.   Bring It!!!!!! Great Goal from Strawser to Babin.... well executed cross and finish! I have to give a lot of credit to Kelly's Midfield ( play from Dykeman, Afshar and Helen Gambraugh)  that kept that  from being an on going occurrence.. WestBrook has a good team. Kelly's top 4 or 5 or just better. Strawser is definately in that conversation no doubt and Stacey did an awesome job. Statistically shots on goal were weighted in Kelly's favor. Near misses that should have been goals... Yasmine Afshar at point blank range does not miss very often and Prince's shake and bake rocket from 18 could have easily made it 3 or 4 to to 1... Kelly defenders stopped two that should have been net for the Brook. A ball that beat the keeper that should have brought it to 2-2 and the last second break away. But that's would good teams do. Newbie you were at the game or am I dreaming?

I thought I had everything I needed to suit my hunting needs. .17hmr,.25-06,30-30, and .300 wby. but the more I think about it I need a .223, 22-250,.243,257 wby mag .260,.270,.280 .308, 30-06, 300 win mag, 7mm mag, 7mm-08, 338 mag,.444 marlin, 450 bushmaster and a 50 cal barrett. Man gun collecting is fun.  NO BS this is what I want.... Then there is a whole list of custom rifles (Brown, Christensen Gunwerks, Hart etc... all in .25-06) and a new Mathews bow! :D

[/quote] My 300 Weatherby Mag... does not get out much since I have yet to take a trip to Canada. :P I bought the gun on a whim since I just had to give back a Savage Anshutz .22 (1200.00) gun that I had just inherited... Long story- but the short of it was my cousin had yet to pick a gun from the collection and guess which one he wanted ( I had already nab the Ruger) ... exactly the 1200.00 .22 long rifle. Well I went to the gun shop next to Academy to see if I could replace  the Anshutz and much to my surprise it was a 1200.00 .22 rimfire an I said heck with that  I bought a pristine Winchester Model 70 in 300 Wby with a 26" barrel.. a pretty unique gun in itself... but it does not get used much because I prefer hunting with the Ruger or the Marlin... No doubt it can handle the larger game but I have yet to make a hunt for elk or moose. Maybe next year ;D unless your paying and in that case we can leave tomorrow!

I was in the local Academy the other day when a gentleman told me he could routinely hit targets out to 1600yds back in his military days.  My comfort zone is 200yds and my best shot was a lizard broadside off a building at 15 paces with my daisy! :D  Double lung and did not have to track him! Nothing beats shooting them (deer) with a bow right under you though. Speaking of has anyone else seen the new Tred Barta on Versus.. Dude kills a 4pt  Texas buck at 28yds. Long Bow..  out of a wheel chair.  Tred's arrogant at times but I love that dude! That was a trophy!

REMATCH!!!!! THIS THURSDAY!

Should be a fun game Tuesday night against Houston Christian (away). SHARKTOOK  the rematch and game to see is this Thursday @ Kelly against St Agnes!!!

Bought a new Marlin 336 30/30 yesstiddy and cannot wait to get in the climber and give it a go.  Had to give back the one that was given to me about 5 yrs ago ( the son of the previous owner was not happy that dad gave away grandpa's gun without consulting him first) cannot blame him for that. Man it was hard to find one at a reasonable price.  Local Pawn Shops that had them wanted nearly 400.00 for a used gun. Of course it probably had something to do with it being deer season  ;D.. One pawn / gun broker told me that they were moving the Marlin plant and they may not be manufacturing anymore for a while. Bought the last one that Academy had for 353.00 out the door.  Went down to Leger's and was pleasantly surprised how well it grouped shots.  .25-06 has has done it's job so lets see what ole 30/30 can do to put some more meat in the freezer.

Rematch with Agnes Dec 9th at Home. Great Game... Kelly has some up and comers that made big contributions. Agnes fans new they were in a fight. The sideline irrupted when they scored their first goal to take the lead and you could sense a sigh of relief. Kelly spent a good portion of time in front of the Agnes goal in the first half. Claire Dykeman brought Kelly back to level early in the second half with a fabulous back to goal spinning strike! Kelly had a number of shots on goal that were inches from scoring... One that found the net but was called off due to Caitlyn Quinn being just a hair out of bounds when she sent the cross.  I was proud of the effort... 'Tonight's game against IWA will go in the win column but will not have the adrenaline punch that the Agnes game had.  I dislike to lose, but can go away content when the girls give all they have as they did Tuesday night.  We just need a little polish.

Customer came into my wash yesterday with a picture of a nice 8pt he shot the weekend of oct 16 &17th near Toledo Bend... He had a number of nice deer on his trail cameras.

I heard Kayla Walker(Albion 93) may be joining  the team in the Fall of 2011.   Dewi needs to do a little shopping in the back yard... He has let a few girls (Chloe, Emily,Caitlyn Stowe) and others slip through the cracks... Although I know he is trying to find the best players available... I still believe these girls could help his current team and as someone else has mentioned give the local parents a reason (their kids) to come watch the game.
