  1. so... the discipline got worse or better? As far as academics goes, I would think it'd give those kids with grade issues an incentive to pass. Everyone of those kids deserves a chance to turn it around, he can't just black list them as soon as he gets there. If there are TRULY no consequences, which I doubt, then there will be definite issues. i wish the panthers the best!
  2. sounds good to me! Long trip, glad it's on a saturday. A lot of athletes at LBJ from what I hear.
  3. I was one. ;D i've seen before but can't remember.... what year did you graduate??
  4. sounds like some increased interest.... there's strength in numbers.
  5. [Hidden Content] Liberty ISD athletic director discusses 1st yearBy MELECIO FRANCO Updated: 06.22.09 Liberty ISD Athletic Director Shane Deel addressed the members of the Liberty Rotary Club on June 16 and discussed his first year on the job and how well the teams did this past school year. Deel said that the overall goal for all of the teams was to get to the playoffs. This year, every team went to the playoffs except for football, softball and girls basketball. He said that Hurricane Ike impacted the department especially football. The football department has been in a building process since Deel arrived. “When I got here there were 50 kids in the football program,†said Deel. “Now we have 130 as of August.†Deel said that students are training hard during the offseason and making gains by lifting weights. He said that one of the major successes of the district’s athletic program was getting the middle school athletic program started. He said that approximately 55 to 60 middle school students will be enrolled in football next year. “We have an eighth grade group proud to be Panthers,†said Deel. “They are already coming up to the school to work out.†In addition, the middle school has approximately 120 students in golf and tennis. The athletic department introduced a soccer program in February, but there was no coach. Deel said that he spent two weeks calling around the area looking for teams to play. “The boys’ soccer team went undefeated,†he said. “It’s been a tremendous success.†Deel explained that even though they didn’t have a UIL team, the no-pass, no-play rule was still enforced. By offering boys soccer, 30 kids are now in the athletic program that weren’t doing anything before, according to Deel. Other high points in the season included hiring a new basketball coach. The team went to the playoffs for the first time in 10 years. “The baseball team also went to the playoffs, but unfortunately faced another first round defeat,†said Deel. He described evidence of increasing athletic program participation was the need for additional lockers. At the high school, the PE locker room was converted into an athletics locker room to accommodate the additional students. He predicts that the 300 lockers currently available will be filled up in three years. “Every kid in every sport is getting more confident in what they are doing,†said Deel. “I’m excited with the progress we’ve made this year. We are a 3A school that offers as many sports as a 4A school.†Deel told the audience that he appreciates all of the help he receives from the community and he encouraged parents to keep bringing their kids into the athletic program.
  6. Jags have gone back to their offense they ran in 07 and should be airing it out more! U know folk complained last season, even w/ us going 4 rounds deep, that the Jags didn't air it out enuff! They've always dun 7on7 b/c it gives them a chance to get better at what the need to get better at...slanging the rock! Ooh lawd! > > :-X :-X Is that what they ran in '06 with BW under center??
  7. It was WOS then Lumberton last year right? WOS would be a big one to start with.... They were both at Dayton last year.... anyone from Lumberton, WOS, or Dayton have scrimmage info?? I think we are scrimmaging Liberty. ;D seriously??
  8. Suprised Dayton? Dude, what are you talking about? You LOST the game! Beaumont Schools? I can't speak for Ozen, but I know we was smacking Livingston around for most of the game. Yall had to rely on heroic efforts from yall's blue chipper (he did do his thing in that second half) to squeak out a win against Central. They did play us much closer than we expected and if I remember correctly us dayton fans came back and gave them their due. I credit Livingston a lot for the Broncos playoff run. The physicality of that game made Dayton better, IMO. Lionfan... welcome to 20-4A. Nobody gets any slack!! Even after the good year the Lions had, they'll have to come back and do it again to earn respect. Dayton was the same way. Just be thankful you get to play and broadcast all these great games with the awesome atmosphere and FANS. I miss the intensity at the games in the triangle area. Now to get back on topic: Just look at Lumberton, they are having to earn that respect too. They've now made the playoffs 2 years in a row and actually have a thread where people are showing them they take them seriously. 3 years ago that was not the case.
  9. It was WOS then Lumberton last year right? WOS would be a big one to start with.... They were both at Dayton last year.... anyone from Lumberton, WOS, or Dayton have scrimmage info??
  10. I assume Dayton still has WOS and Lumberton.
  11. Eagle07.... if you click on the the little, light blue quote box under the person's name, karma, avatar, etc. you can pm them.
  12. 4 pieces of steel in the ground. someone told me it was going to be 17x40 which is a lot bigger than the old one. by the looks of the steel, those dimensions might be right.
  13. A lot of latitude is given by those rules. My prediction.... The kid will not/does not have to sit out with his dad working in the district regardless of what his address is (if he even transfers). IMO... His dad working there is a much more legit reason than what goes on all over the state with kids "moving in" with the aunts, uncles, etc. using their address, and getting to play sports.
  14. not if he has a parent working in the district. just like kids in elementary school go to the district their mom teaches in.... dayton has tons of those. The kids in elementary don't play UIL sports though. I tried looking it up and it said that the school could have some exceptions, so who knows? I thought about that... same principle though. The parent teaching in the district negates the idea that a student is switching schools for "athletic purposes" though.
  15. not if he has a parent working in the district. just like kids in elementary school go to the district their mom teaches in.... dayton has tons of those.
  16. No. Actually the answer is YES! If Coach Huckaby does not live in the school district with his son then he would have to sit out a year. However, if Coach Huckaby and son live in the district then he is eligible. As long as the Father is an employee of the district the child does not have to sit out a year.
  17. did they let ya'll play last year's schedule?!?! I'm calling the UIL!!
  18. no doubt!!! ;D gonna be a fun year.
  19. lost coin tosses, key injuries, controversial calls, etc.
  20. Jakari benched around 210 and squatted in the 350 range coming out of the 8th grade (he's now going into his sophomore year)... I just can't envision a jump like that (200+ lbs.) for anyone... I believe it could be his squat max though.
  21. :)sounds like a squat max to me.... I don't think we have anyone with a bench like that.
  22. physical attribute: high calf muscles (pretty good indicator of a fast or quick kid) intangible attribute : heart
  23. I'm with TD on that one... I'm not knowledgeable enough to really answer that. One thing I would focus on..... and WOS does have the athletes to do it, is to not have the same guys at WR and DB the entire game against a good passing team. In special situations, maybe, but they just won't be as productive on either side of the ball playing both ways the whole game. I'm convinced that depth has been the biggest issue for dayton in recent years in regards to defending the pass. Our coaches do a fantastic job with getting the most out of what we have, we just don't have the depth. In Dayton's case the last couple of years, we would have had to give up some ground on O or D to achieve not wearing out our DBs/WRs. Even still, not sure if it would have helped against SS, FW, and LT and their all-state and all-american passing games.
  24. Today's passing games are much different than the 80's. Especially with the upper echelon passing teams like Gilmer, China Springs.... etc. (those are the 3A's i could think of off the top of my head) Teams that can sling it around always have a chance... even against the chain gang defense.
