I’d say talent IS a big factor. It takes special talent for deep playoff runs, which we’re probably a little short on, but I believe there is plenty there to be competitive. I realize I’m in the minority there, but even teams with a downturn in talent can execute and compete. I don’t have the answer for why that hasn’t happened. I just don’t believe “illegals” are the root of it.

You saw documentation on all these "illegals"? Come on, man. The Broncos threw 4 interceptions and fumbled once in the first half. That's not a demographic issue. They're working to rectify those things. The coaches will coach the kids up. Dayton's got some good groups coming up that includes some talented Hispanic kids. Kids born in the states. Give me a break with that nonsense. There might be some handfuls of illegal citizens, but the majority of those that you're generalizing, have the proper paperwork, are here for the right reasons and their children (many born here) are achieving good things in spite of their circumstances. Those breaking the law are being removed as well as can be expected. That's affected someone close to me, so I know that for a fact. And for the Danaher/CC Calallen commenters... That team would wipe the floor with plenty of more "talented" teams in this area on any given year. Coaches gotta coach the kids they've got. Dayton knows that and will do that. What a weak cop out!!!

Complying would have worked here. She's fortunate that the officer was gentle. -
Liberty is Feb 28 this year.

Dayton 46 Port Arthur Memorial 44/FINAL

Multiple Dayton players have been disciplined as well. Two games for some. -
As a teacher and coach (not football), I agree with this. I get to do a job I love, be with my family a lot and because my wife, who is a tremendous educator, is great with money, live pretty comfortably. If teachers don't like the job or pay, they can go find something that makes them happy. Their degrees will afford them countless other opportunities.

Long time Dayton family.

Where do you think Green and Dugat lived? They played youth league and JH football here. AJ's brother Michael (2 yrs older) did too. Now Franks was a different story.

Alright, Gary. I never mentioned the offense even being good. I said they'd do enough to give the defense the needed rest. The defense has played well and created plenty of the other teams' foot shooting. I know you're just stirring.
-
Defense is much improved and didn't allow much of anything in the first half (and beyond) of the games against Porter and BH. Both teams that were supposed to run roughshod over them. 212 yds of offense to Porter and 311 to BH. They're also tackling much better.
-
Not really knowledgeable about offense types, etc. Definitely more run based than years past. Some option stuff in there for sure.

Who would have thought that on the Wednesday before the Hwy 90 shootout, that there'd be no thread for this game? I'm optimistic and believe things aren't as bad for either program as everyone seems to think. Predictions? Hopes? Dreams? The Bronco defense has honestly been pretty dang good this year. I think the offense will move the ball this week and give the D the rest they need to keep the Cougars at bay. This will be a good high school football game. I'll say Broncos 31-28.

That included a new high school and lots of other upgrades across the district. That's not really an outlandish #. Additionally, from my understanding, the size of the bond was not the issue. The allocation of the funds (or abuse, rather) by the Superintendent was what got Crosby in financial trouble. Apologies for helping hijack the thread. Good luck to those still playing.

Man, that's awful.

So true. These are program changers in my opinion. I always felt that way during Dayton's big run (at least Quarterfinals from 2007-2010). Those extra games and all those weeks of extra practice are huge for all the kids in the program, rather they saw real playing time or not. There were some kids in Dayton that played 45 games from their Soph thru Senior seasons. Newton and WOS are obviously some that gain from this most every year. Glad for Silsbee.

thanks for that.

Hard to keep all the HISD schools straight! Lots of talent floating around those places.

VY went to Madison.

What a drive for a district game!

Agreed. If you travel I-10, the chance of catching the shift change at the plant parking lots on Hwy 146 isn't worth it.

It looks to me like drainage is the bigger issue here. We've got practice fields here in Dayton that I'd bet get every bit as much rain and traffic, and they don't look like that. Fixing that issue would be much cheaper than turf I suppose.
-
Agreed. They've got more than enough to be competitive. I believe they will.
-
Nice. Not surprised.

ahhh. Right. I remember seeing a replay of the shot where he got the concussion. For sure. He was a bad dude. Quietly had a pretty good college career at Lamar as well. Herrera threw it as well as anyone we've ever had. Good times.
