His decision making will only get better if  he doesn't try to force passes.I look for him to pass over 3,000 yards and rush for over 1000 TD's this season. With Elam back at WR to take some of the pressure off Holmes, who knows how good Silsbee can be. I hope we can kick Huffman's butt this year!  ;D
If he does that he is a lock
i agree.... you think they'd give the Heisman to a highschooler?

 4.
Cleveland's defense hasn't faced an offense like Tarkington. I don't think they can stop the longhorns. I am also willing to bet that if Tarkington gets up on them, the tribe won't be able to overcome it. Longhorn offense is too much for Cleveland. Tarkington 42 - 12
wow.... when's the last time someone said that about Tarkington? Coach Carpenter, his staff, and that community have stayed the course and are reaping the benefits. Win or lose, congrats to the horns on how far you've come!

Challenge enough for you. The only thing that stops us from scoring is the coach getting off the gas. ;)
::) we've heard that before... we'll see.
 6.
I love these Polls  ;D  Dayton got stomped by a Creek school last year and will get Stomped by one this year ;) After this season BH might as well put Creek in the name. Barbers Hill Creek 8)
pulling for SC already...  ::) you thought/wished Crosby could do it too.
 7. Has sc seen a decent defense yet? If Crosby doesn't turn the ball over, this one will be close. If sc gets some takeaways, I think it'll be a runaway.
 8. My heart says Vidor but my head says Nederland. Both are high quality programs and teams. I voted Nederland
 9.
Hats off to a very athletic Crosby team. It was a great game.
agreed... those receivers were a nice addition to the twins... among other things.
 10. nice win..... markain looked pretty good for a guy who "can't throw a cheerio into an ocean"..... i think that was the phrase. Bronco Defense did a great job and I think when the O can get some more reps and Markain's ankle heals up, they'll be pretty dynamic.

 14.

Until Dayton's defense can stop the pass on a CONSISTENT basis then I'll become a believer in the system.  I believe once they face SC's stud QB and receivers then we'll get a better idea of what they can do.  Dayton's defense has yet to be tested.  For the record, the best defense I've seen is the Jakari Pearson and Bowers (Sp?) team the year they played La Marque in the dome.  I think that team was built better for a state title, big hit you in the mouth team.
Started with a D (Dekauri SP??)...Gene Tennison and Mike Mabry were on that team as well right?
no... they had just graduated in may of '98. Dakari and Co. were c/o '99.
 15.
OK, I'm a little more nervous now. Just talked to my co-worker, a Dayton fan for decades, about an hour ago and he told me if they had any qb play it could potentially be Dayton's best team ever. He said the kids are bigger than the state finalist team but lacking a passing game. Chambers had an ankle sprain and was limping at the Livingston game so he didn't play against New Caney. Said he's not a natural a qb and has a kind of side arm delivery but the two back-ups aren't any better. Said he doesn't like contact either. I hear they have 3 McBride's and the sophomore is supposed to be the best one. He also told me if anyone from Elkins could catch Dayton would have lost the game. He said the defense is good but he's seen one or two better, and that this one would be better next year. I respect his opinion more than any other Bronco fan(atic) up here but what do y'all think about that?
Gotta give Markain a little credit on the bolded part. I felt like that was true last year, but he seems to be running much tougher this year. He's pretty hard to square up on, so he'll be fine. The two Mcbride's that play mostly offense can hurt you in different ways. Can't really disagree with the Elkins comment... except, if you give them those 2 touchdowns (2 drops on one possession)... then you've gotta give us one when we fumbled inside the 10 and had all the momentum. That would put the game at 24-20 and Dayton still wins. This could be a really good Dayton team when it's all said and done and I can't think of a better game than this week's to see the offense healthy and clicking.
 16.
Mental note for all would be recruiters looking at twins. Their numbers mean nothing this year its the system.
8)  well played
 17.
I don't know if you're trying to help me or dispute me. The running back from SS was so good he got one D1 scholarship offer from Air Force. I know what the numbers said but it more so the system. It's the same way in the current Lake Travis or old Southlake systems. Good systems win. Commerce (3a) won 2 state titles with Steve L., he took that same system to Euless Trinity and created a national power. Rollison couldn't get on the field at Sam Houston, Cody Green is starting at Tulsa right now. If you can play you should blossom in any system. I was in college in East Texas when SS won state so I watched them and Texas High with Ryan Mallet play quite a few times along with GJ Kinne at Gilmer. Rollison was the most atheletic but not as good as either. Don't talk about how elite the talent was cause SS schemed up 70 on the best defense you ever had. By the was the qb from SS last year played 12 games and almost threw for 3000 (245 ypg), but I guess he's a freak too, it has nothing to do with the system. I know I might be a little biased but Ryan Young couldn't hold a candle to Austin Walter. I think after he puts 200 on y'all you'll be on here talking about how it's a down year for Dayton or how he's a product of the system. Either way though, I don't think I'll see you on here Friday night admitting to neither.
You didn't really take the time to read my post. I said, system or otherwise in regards to "the freak". Like it or not... he was an elite HS QB. The Ryan Young info was in response to your statement that SS didn't have a back that could go for 2000 and you were proven wrong despite the apparent fact that you watched him play. It doesn't matter if he's better than Austin or not. BTW, that wasn't our best defense ever... maybe top 5. It was, IMO, our best offense though given the fact that we had 2 D1 prospects on the field, which we rarely have. Like I said... you're new... I always come back and always show respect to the opposing team before and after the game. I'm anxious to see if you'll be back to get your crow if Crosby loses.
Whatever helps you sleep at night... just letting your boy Cougar14 know thatif he's gonna ride SS's coattails he's gotta know the facts. He's talking out of his backside.
SS was extremely talented that year but lets not act like that wasn't the best dayton has ever had. i mean Cody green and AJ Dugat weren't slouches either, if you compare your current roster to that one it's not even close, the honest truth is i've not seen crosby this confident, since they beat Dayton the last time, these kids believe they can sweep this district.
I'm not acting like that.... If you read my post from earlier in the thread... I said I wouldn't compare that State Finalist defense to this one (and certainly not the offense).... He's basing his prediction partly on the fact that your HC coached in that game and that just doesn't make any sense due to the fact that the personnel is extremely different. AJs, Codys, Tyriks, and the like don't come around that often.  I'm glad you're kids are confident. Our kids are confident EVERY year, as they should be, because that's what good programs instill. Both teams will be up for this game.

Crosby ypg allowed - 360    ppg - 17  Willis, Nederland, Barbers hill Dayton ypg allowed - 177  ppg  - 6.3  Elkins, Livingston, New Caney
our defense pts per game is actually better than that. One td against livingston was a int return. Sucked to because kenner had just scored the play before the int. Called back for a penalty.
I see it says Barbers Hill had 507 yads of offense. I don't know where they got that from. Barbers Hill had 241 rushing and 70 yards passing, so 311 total. Ned had 208 rushing and 96 passing for a total of 304. Don't know the Willis stats but they couldn't have had more than 250 total. Defense is the best in a while. Crosby also has 730 rushing yards the last two games which is more than Dayton has total on the season. You have the Tyrik The Freak thing right too. I know what the recruiting services said, but truth of the matter is couldn't get on the field at Auburn. He transferred to Sam Houston and got beat out again. It's kind of like Garrett Gilbert being the number one qb in the nation when he came out. They took him out of that Lake Travis system and now he's ruining SMU's season. Coaching up talent is exactly what Riordan is doing. One thing he didn't have at Sulphur Springs is a back that could go for 2000. We'll see how good of a coaching job Riordan does Friday night. If he goes 2-0 against the Ponies it could spell danger for the Bronco faithful for while.
As we've seen so often in your young setxsports posting life, you don't know what you're talking about. Ask Coach Riordan about the RB (Ryan Young) they had that came from Alba-Golden to SS his last year or two of high school. Here's his 2008 (state champ year) stat line.... from MaxPreps Carries - 280 Yards - 2314 YPG -144 TD - 28 Here's the link... click on his name to see a game by game break down. I'm telling you, SS was a cut above.... They had the total package. Like I've said all along... This should be a good game. [Hidden Content]-(sulphur-springs,tx)/football-fall-08/stats.htm And I know... that was a 16 game season. But when you've got a QB (system or otherwise) that throws for 4500 yds and runs for a 1000 more in that same season, you just don't need 2000 in the regular season.
 21.

For Crosby to win @ Dayton would be a big upset, because Dayton has not lost a dist game @Bronco stadium in 5 yrs (incl the 20-4a boys)I know of.Been playing a tuff pre-dist sch for many yrs in preparation for big games like this playing Angleton-Ike-Elkins-FW and the games lost were close to the buzzer. That OL/Dl that beat Coogs last yr are all seniors this yr.Dayton team speed will slow down the big play Coog O.Dayton by 14+ cause we own Crosby esp @ home & in playoffs of the past ;)
Well Tex, you better hope that record stays in tact. This is basically the first playoff game for both teams. I think we're going to pull out all the stops. The white elephant in the room no one is talking about is that if Crosby wins this game it almost assures them of a playoff spot barring a late season debacle. If Dayton loses, that 16 year streak is in grave danger of coming to an end. Y'all would still have The Creek, The Hill, C.E. King and Kingwood Park. I think 3 losses keeps you at the house this year with the 9 team district. I know y'all will blast me for this but y'all have one of your weaker teams in while. I know the scores and record doesn't reflect it so far. . . . but it's not Friday yet.
you're entitled to your opinion, but... I think last year's team was a touch weaker than this year's at least at this point in the season... 1. defense was far too young and not up to snuff at this point last year  2. not as many players on O that could take it to the house on any given play. The addition of this sophomore class has been huge. Now... that's looking at last year in the rearview in 20/20 but i think that's pretty accurate.
 22. One other fun fact for the stat lovers.... Crosby ypg allowed - 360    ppg - 17  Willis, Nederland, Barbers hill Dayton ypg allowed - 177  ppg  - 6.3  Elkins, Livingston, New Caney
 23.
I think I can argue a tad. Elkins got beat 48-15 by Lamar after y'all barely squeaked by them. The Willis, New Caney, Caney Creek thing is null and void because cause New Caney's only win is Caney Creek who just lost to Willis. We beat Willis by 50 in case you forgot. If Nederland, Willis, Barbers Hill was softer than Elkins, Livingston(winless), New Caney then I would be more worried than I am now. It's just hard for me to fathom Dayton averaging 227 yards of offense a game but will explode on Crosby. Last year we outgained y'all with a much less potent offense and y'all had Hererra. I've seen Chambers passing numbers and they're similiar to Denny's(Hill). YOU WILL NOT LINE UP AND RUN THE BALL ON CROSBY WITH NO PASSING GAME TO KEEP US HONEST. My co-worker told me the kid from Elkins dropped two td passes or it would have been a different game. Along with the 250 a game we're averaging rushing we have some playmaking receivers. Defense is giving up 17 a game. Just like I said to the Barbers Hill fans, if Crosby doesn't turn the ball over it's going to be hard to keep us under 40. Going to be a good one either way though.
We really could've boosted that ypg some this past week. But, New Caney couldn't move the ball past the 35 or so on most possessions. Also, even if Livingston and Elkins aren't world-beaters, they aren't pushovers like New Caney and Willis and have prepared us for a tough, physical game... as did the scrimmage with Ned(whole or not). Also, the same could be said of your passing attack keeping us honest. It's just barely more proven than ours. Also, Riordan had one of the best HS QB's to play in TX in recent years and a heck of a lot of other athletes. Crosby has good skill kids, but Rollison and Co. were a cut above until proven otherwise.
