I remember playing against him in the Beaumont Bowl. He was the only reason that Central hung with us. I can say with happiness that we shut him down on 4 downs inside the 5 yard line to seal the win ;D One of the most incredible high school players I played against. Good Job and Congrats.
you played for West Brook right?
Congratulations to Mason Mounkes for making it to State in High Jump & 110 Hurdles. Very proud of all of you boys. Roger Davis ran the hurdles, even though he was sick as a dog. I am especially proud of our girls, who ran with two subs in the relays. You knew it was going to be ruff, but you went out and ran anyways. Very proud of you girls!
we dayton fans were really pulling for the HI kids. Fantastic Job! -
i just find it interesting, Lake Travis wanted no part of them, Trinity wanted no part of them, heck, i could probably say the little SWC wants no part of them. :D
I may have a reading problem.... where does it mention LT and Trinity? Maybe those 2 had schedules set already.... LT's is not soft either. In non district they play a class 5A finalist (Westlake) a class 4A championship team (Aledo w/Jonathon Gray) a class 4A semifinalist (Kerrville Tivy) and a class 4A quarterfinalist (Plugerville Hendrickson). All those are very strong opponents and they don't have to travel near as far to play them. And I agree... Abilene will most likely be scary good. -
It takes talent to win. Your crazy if you don't think the developement of the Dayton area is a big factor in their winning.
Are you saying that only growing communities can be winners on the field?
No Sir. But it dang sure helps !! Bottom line is, Dayton was terrible from the time they first started a football program all the way up to about 15 years ago. LaMarque and Friendswood also went through a developement phase years back and their football programs really became dominant. If Dayton would have not grown and stayed the same, then Dayton would not have as good a program as they have now. Take a look at Liberty !!
Since you brought it up.... Dayton had a couple regional championships in the 30's or 40's when that was as far as you could go in the playoffs and had a quarterfinal team in '61 I believe it was. Come on man... I wasn't even alive back then.... get your facts together. -
It takes talent to win. Your crazy if you don't think the developement of the Dayton area is a big factor in their winning.
Of course it takes talent. But there was a lot of talent here before. There was an immediate change when Coach Stewart showed up. People from Dayton saw that. You don't go from being the cellar dweller for years, to beating Jasper, making the playoffs, and giving WOS a great game in that 1st playoff in one year because of growth in the city... in fact, all the playmakers from that team that I can remember had grown up in Dayton. I suppose you might be thinking... "well Dayton had been growing for years" ... why hadn't we won then? I agree the growth has helped... but your first post on the topic sounded like you attributed most of the success to growth and that's just not the case. If anything, the winning here in dayton has produced some of the growth as far as the football program and talent are concerned. With the exception of Xavier Frank, Cameron LaCour and a couple others, the majority of Dayton's standouts have grown up in the area and there families were here for years before. -
I just dont understand why all of a sudden when you get a new young hot shot coach in there everybody is jumping on the bandwagon?? The support or spirit was down the last years in the Burnet era who IMO is the face of the PNG Athletic Program.
He got the ball rolling with getting a Booster Club. So there was really no band wagon to jump on before right. I'm not sure how that draws the "Hot Shot" tag. Did someone keep Burnett (sp?) from starting one? I'm sure you know much more about the situation than me. I understand that a lot of folks feel that Coach Burnett was mistreated. But.... has Faircloth actually done anything to contribute to that? Not stirring. I'm honestly asking.... -

With that said im not commenting on Carrol Thomas but on the teachers of beaumont, and i think they are doing a great job with what they have. The citizens are to be commended for passing the bond to improve the schools and if you are mad about something do something productive to make a difference not just complain on a website.
I agree... trying to compare them to the Southlake Carroll's of the world is not even close to fair. Two vastly different demographics.
Don't we want to have the best...Doesn't everyone strive to be the best. Compensation should be based on performance. The schools, facilities, and test scores are better at those places...plain and simple. Quit making excuses about how it is not fair to compare schools because of social demographics. That is just settling instead of trying to be the best. I for one want to see us on those levels. If he gets there pay him a million dollars..If he doesnt find someone that will.
sure we want to be the best... but when someone, is at a disadvantage they are obviously starting from a different point although the goals are the same. Since this is a football thread, let's spin it that way... Southlake Carroll starts their drives at the 40 yd line (funding, supportive parents, etc.) Beaumont ISD by at large starts theirs at the 10 making it harder to reach those goals. When they start compensating school districts based on performance without figuring in starting points or % of improvement, I'll start looking elsewhere for a job.
They are struggling it seems. Their times looked competitived in the premils but sure didn't in the finals.
I know it says prelims but those were times submitted by Jasper for seeding purposes. I'm not sure when or if Jasper ran those times, but the meet was finals only (heats against time). Like Kris Gilmore said, many athletes focus on one event this close to district. Also, with the meet entries being due a couple days before, some coaches just put names in the event and then run whoever needs a race, so it's hard to know if a certain athlete really ran that event. -

I agree with what you're saying about the double standard. With all the media nowadays we are far too involved in people's personal lives... -

What tiger has done is beyond terrible. I think he knows that. If he goes and does the same, then he gets written off in my opinion. There have been lots of people throughout history that have made terrible decisions even as a lifestyle that have turned their life around and are revered (sp?) as examples of how to live your life. I'm not say Tiger will or won't do this, but I certainly hope he does, if for no one else's sake but his family. On a lighter note... I can only imagine what the guy can do playing with a clear conscience. I know when I'm not carrying guilt, my life is much easier. -

Does anyone remember that Reggie White from Liberty I think man he was tough to tackle very hard runner.
Reggie was a bad dude... ended up spending some time with the Eagles I think. Funny story.... I accidentally elbowed and busted his lip in a pick-up basketball game. He was about 2 years, 50 pounds heavier, and way more athletic than I was. I thought he was going to knock my block off. He just told me not to worry about it and kept playing. :D :D I was relieved. -
How many of the folks who posted here were at the game? How many folks who condemed the FW coaches have any idea what really happened. Several posters took a balanced approach and stated they had no idea what the circumstances were, but here is what they would have liked to see happen from their perspective, thank you for that. For those who condemed FW based on your stereotyping of FW and cmmunities like FW let me tell you what happened; 1. LM had 8 players. They have forfeited several games because they had less than 8 players. The coach went around the school and recruited players. His "best" player decide the day of the FW game he would rather go watch a sweet sixteen game at Reliant - understand what he is dealing with? 2. FW did not start several regulars. The starters that did play were out after 2 innnings. 3. The game went 5 innings. Out of the 15 outs, 14 were strikeouts. One ball was put in play! We were serving up fastball meat ball after meatball. 4. After the first couple innings the subs were instructed to start swinging at anything they could get their bat on, ball or strike., They were swinging at balls over their shoulders! Does this help FW stay sharp, no, but it was the right thing to do. 5. We stopped taking extra bases and stealing 6. We did not play the bunting game, that is more insulting than anything. In summary the FW coach did the best he could - he stopped "pressing" early in the game - unlike the Yates team. Our parents did not make "34" t shirts like the Yates parents did after they scored 174! We handled it with as much class as we could. For those that condemned us based on their stereotyped perceptions of FW, shame on you, that is the definition of a bigot. There is no elegant way to handle this situation, but I have no issues with what we did, nor did the LM fans, parents and coaches.
thanks for the clarity. ;)
