And you guys like to huff and puff on how talented Yates is when they are not all THAT talented. They are the only team in the National top 50 WITHOUT a national top 150 rated kid. This is a heck of a team but you may not hear a thing about these kids after high school... They will fade into obscurity. Joseph Young is the only kid with a next level game, that could actually make some noise on a Providence squad. But Peters is a 6' guy in a PG's body with no PG skills (he can barely dribble). Darius Gardner is a sub 6' point guard that will be a decent contributer on a small D1... But I tell you that he is not better than any of the Hancocks or Skip Jackson. They had decent careers but aren't Pro prospects just like Gardner. The only other kid that may do a little bit is the 6'3" newly starting Elton Roy, but he took a long time to develop. He was highly rated in the Houston area out of middle school, but feel off the map by under performing. So yes I say Wise coaching is a BBBBIIIIGGGG part of their success.
I agree... his coaching is a big part. He was also successful at Kingwood, where his son played for him. But talent does play a part.... since you know them so well... I'm sure you know he convinced a couple of players with family that have Yates ties to come and play. Addressing another point on this thread... Once again... no one wants or wanted JY to stop playing or play with less intensity...

Dayton JV meet - Thursday - February 25th Dayton Bronco relays - Friday - April 9th

AAW doesn't need me to defend him but he's not being hypocritical. I believe he said that there was no need to stop scoring.... simply stop the full court press.... which would've kept the score down without having to decrease your intensity. I'm not sure how he's being hypocritical... Silsbee stopped the press which seems to be the difference in most people's eyes.
We saved some money by buying some used computers from some Dayton kids last year, so the budget is good to go....... ;D ;D
never gets old for you does it? ;) -
My problem with Yates was not that they scored 170 points, but how they scored those points. Again, Yates continued to press, Silsbee never pressed in the 2nd half. Also, they did not attempt any 3 point shots late in the game. Legacy dictated how this game got this way, Yates dictated the result of their game. I am not for completely shutting it down and refusing to score. But if you can't see the difference in these two games, you're not that smart to begin with.
those are my thoughts as well.... I don't think they'll ever get it AAW. Stopping the full court press, trapping, etc. for a half is not going to make someone lose their edge, IMO......

Houston Yates 170, Houston Lee 35 - Final
dayton replied to cutt's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
someone mentioned LT running it up in football. the most lopsided score I can think of for them was 70-7 against killeen ellison I believe.... and the dogs were called off early, guaranteed. Their starters rarely play a 4th quarter. they showed tons of class in the state semis against Dayton. The strange thing about the yates game is that there was no one to pull or put in due to the fight/fights. -
Newton might be able to run but I think they are in the same situation Kirbyville is in have great running backs why waste them running a spread. LeFredrick Ford could do othing but catch a pass every now and then in the spread Kelvin Bennet would only be able to do the same it just would work for Newton or Kirbyville IMO.
send ford on over to a good spread team and see how many times and how many different ways he would get the ball!!! He'd be a good player in any offense.

That hurts!! Congrats to Carthage.... Especially the Morgans!!!
Come on guys its not all coaching thats led to Dayton's success..On one other post there was a list of kids that Dayton has put in the college ranks..Thats a lot of talent that has come through Dayton HS...I can only think of maybe 2 kids from Crosby in the last 5 years with D-1 or D-1AA talent,Baylor & UTEP....It has more to do with talent...
It has a lot to do with it.... not so sure it is more to do with talent than coaching though. dayton put players in college before the days of Stewart, but rarely put TEAMS in the playoffs.
I totally agree old wildcat. Facts and logic are way overrated.
Facts are fine... when you post all of them. See the earlier post from SETEXFan on why dayton made that list.... It wasn't because less than 50% of the students passed the TAKS. The list INCLUDES schools in which 50 percent or less of the students pass a TAKS test during any two of the past three years... doesn't mean dayton is one of them. PFSTX can spin it however he likes.... but he doesn't know the facts.

And I would bet LH CAN throw if they need to. Thanks for contributing though.
