My nominee for "Understatement of the Year"!
 2. Guys, If I understand Dickie V's reasoning correctly, I can see what he means.  Look at it this way.  Coach English is getting about 95% out of his players... This is a result of great coaching!  But Nederland is just about as good as they are going to get this year. But Ozen (and Central) has players with far more athletic potential and the coaching staff is NOT getting the most out of their potentials... let's say 60-70% (although the exact number is open to debate), the point is, that the Ozen team can be much, MUCH better with some better coaching. So, is DV picking on Nederland?  I don't think so.  But much like the HJ faithful who react like pitbulls when they feel HJ Is being maligned, the Nederland faithful are absolutely certain that DV is drinking HatorAde when it comes to Nederland. Frankly, I see his point.  There is a coaching vacuum in Beaumont that is holding the Panthers and Jaguars from competing at the level that they could be (considering the talent on the teams). I hope I didn't muddy up the waters even further.
That would not work, You would have more teams playing ,like Vidor, Playing a bunch of 1a and private schools early in the yr, to pad there record..
No, that would NEVER happen.... oh, never mind.
 4.
I think the chances are pretty good that they will be in Huntsville.
Being that most teams haven't played a team like Silsbee this year (the closest being those who played Navasota, I would guess), this seems somewhat possible... even likely. The one thing that Sislbee has to avoid is foul trouble.  I'm afraid that is going to be their Achilles Heel.

 6.
i like the top 2 advancing.  beyond that, i don't care.  looking at a district like 21-3A, where Silsbee and HJ have ended up proving to be the best two teams in region three on several occasions over the past few years, it would be a shame to only allow one team from the district advance to the playoffs.  but that being said, there are very few districts in the state where the 3rd place team is talented enough to make a deep run in the playoffs.  and 4 teams is overkill.  maybe not in a 10-team district, but certainly in a 5 or 6 team district.
But what about back in 2007 when there were 3 teams in 21-3A that were in the top 10 in the state.  I think there is the case for 3 teams in the play-offs.  Especially when you consider that some teams are late bloomers and don't peak until the latter half of district play.

He says Sean has a fever (bad temperature), not temper.
 8.
I am late to this topic... But the ONLY reason the the BMT schools would not still run the district, is because of coaching.  Yeah, I said it!  Sorry to say, but the truth hurts!  I still wonder if Silsbee maintain there success once the new coach has a team that is all his?
I don't think that will be a problem.....

 11.
i don't have a problem with them playing OR flipping.  i'd love to see HJ and Silsbee get a huge challenge right before playoffs to get their frame of mind back to competitive basketball, and away from the blowouts they've lined up in district.  that being said, i can also understand a coach wanting to flip and avoid wearing the kids out, or maybe lining up a warmup game against a lesser opponent to work on some things against a team of the caliber that they'll be playing in the first round or two.  as a fan, i'd love to watch a 3rd game between HJ and Silsbee.
Hopefully you will!  In Hunstville!

 13.

There is something about HJ's and Silsbee's press that I'm always floored by.  When I played (no, we weren't STILL using peach baskets!) we pressed all game long.  We were pressed by teams like HJ and a few others. But nobody was able to press on a missed shot.  The only time you could do a full court press was on a made shot.  I always marvel when I see teams get the rebound, turn around, and are staring into the teeth of a full court press. Of course, the answer to that would be, kick the ball out and get it up the court BEFORE they can set up the Press.  I'm not sure why I don't see that done today.
IF the team gets too preoccupied trying to get players up the court, they're gonna get burned by HJ and Silsbee on the offensive end if guys starting cheating back the other way.  Just my opinion.
Yeah, and I guess doing that would also cause a fast-paced game, which plays right into the hands of both teams.

 15.
Its also kinda funny how Silsbee fans arent trying to make a case for dominance like a few of you guys are.. :D Seem to be getting responses from HJ people
Dog, you were real quick to point out last year how "not so good" HJ was, simply because Nederland beat them last year.  Well, does that mean the shoe is on the other foot? HJ beat Nederland pretty badly during the same part of the season.  By your reasoning, what kind of a case do you have the Nederland shouldn't be 3rd?
 16.
Its a different style of Ball then what the teams in 20-4A are used to playing.. Execution and fundamentals in the Half-court are more important and mean more in getting a victory.. As for HJ and Silsbee, better warm-up your legs and have press-breaks ready.. I think the 20-4A teams would perform much better if they were used the those types of games.. I can take heat for this comment and wont bother me, but Silsbee and HJ's players arent studs by any means.. They fit the system, like a glove.. Run the press, attack, sub when you are tired..
No, I think you're right.  And that's one of the reasons that I think HJ and Silsbee are so successful in the play-offs.  Some of those teams, who are awfully good, make you wonder if they have ever seen a decent press in their lives. Good point.

But also, bear in mind, although HJ beat Nederland and Central, I was hazard to guess that Nederland and Central have improved much more since those earlier games than HJ has.  Those games would be neck and neck if played during district.
What makes you "hazard to guess" that HJs improvement vs the beginning the first of the year is not equal to or better than that of Nederland and Central?  Wouldn't you need to have seen several of each teams games since early in the season to make that guess or are you simply using recent scores as the basis?  ( recent scores dont seem to support the contention)
Steve, you love to question everyone's opinion, don't you!  i can easily say Nederland because several of their players were still in Football when they played HJ.  Onthe flip side, HJ was in 4th gear from the very first game of the season.
Well, I always thought that this board was intended to be an avenue where ideas and opinions are exchanged.  Just curious why you felt that way.  Plenty of people (including you sometimes) play devils advocate on this board.  Have learned many things over the years by doing so.  Nederland has had a couple of letdowns in recent times(long after football is a memory) so I dont think the football theory is as valid as you do but obviously, it's only my opinion.
well, as Pumper pointed out, I may be in error in thinking Nederland was missing a couple of starters. My bad. I may have been thinking of last years team where their center was the starting qb in football. But in any event, HJ looked to be in mid-season form their very first game, and Sutherland has not let them lose that groove. So IMO, its easy to think that many teams have improved since the beginning of the year more than HJ, because HJ has been that darn good since the opening tip off of the opening game.

 22. BTW, is Buna going to follow the lead of that school up north and get rid of their mascot, so as not to offend older women who chase younger men? The saddest part of that statement is that a school did indeed change their names from "the cougars" to something else in deference to well..... cougars!
