OK, I've checked out two threads this morning.... 1) is the YMBL update thread 2) is the Silsbee / WB game at the YMBL tournament. And all I've read about is the pro's and con's of the HJ schedule. Its funny, HJ isn't even at the YMBL tournament. Do you guys think you can start up a thread on HJ's schedule and beat each other to death on that thread instead of ruining all these other threads that have nothing to do with HJ? Just wonderin'...................
Why do i care? I only state facts! U know it's weak bro! Where else is HJ playing besides a tourney they put together to blow everyone out? The BMT Kelly Tourney? The Bridge City Invitational?
Ahhh.... welcome back BS. Its been a while since we've seen this side of you! Welcome back! Again, this has been the formula for HJ for the last several years. You judge a tree by its fruits! You want to question HJ's methods, it only looks you look.... well.... silly. -
I'd love to see HJ in the YMBL. Quite a field. I know they been going to AP, but it might be time to change gears.
I think that the coach wants to get the teams game legs under them. They'll play 6 games this weekend, 6 games next weekend, and (if they do what they did last year) they'll throw in another game Tuesday. That's 13 games in 10 days. You learn a lot about your players in just 10 days. Bottom line is, like it or not, you can't argue with the results! -
Your right about Adam, but this a case were just stats were looked at,and not what he ment to his team. This years Evadale Team was made up of 4 very good players but together they were a verygood team. Deven led the team in scoring, Blane led in rebounds, and led the State in blocks, but was 2 in scoring and 2 in steals . Adam was 3 in scoring 2 in rebounds, and Tucker lead the team in steals,3 in rebounds and had a great State game. I know this is a indivdual award, But Evadale would not have made it past the first round of the playoffs if they had not all pulled together as a team.
Well, Garrett Gustafson would be the exception to that. The young man was invaluable to the HJ Hawks, but his numbers didn't reflect it. -
HJ may have lost 8 of 11 to Silsbee, but what has that proved?
Here we go. ::) Uh, maybe that Silsbee is better head to head? I don't know. ::) But we are getting off topic.
Yeah, I remember in the 2009 NFL season, the Dallas Cowboys were strutting around because they beat New Orleans. Meanwhile New Orleans was strutting around because they had the Vince Lombardi trophy. Yes, Silsbee has beat HJ 8 out of 11, but the last 5 years, HJ has gone farther than Silsbee in the play-offs 3 out of 5 (including that time they "brought home the gold". To quote a wise sage, "... but what has that proved"? ;)

You mentioned if HF had 4 "ballers"- Can you define "ballers" for me? I have a feeling that, when they were drafted in the same year, Allen Iverson would have been perceived as a "baller" and Ray Allen would not have been. Isn't it interesting how things have worked out? The Knicks are playing 500(%) ball since the addition of Carmelo Anthony while the Nuggets have won 8 of 11 during the same time frame. I guess they found a way to survive with one less "baller". ;D
In HF's case, a baller is anyone who truly loves the game and willing to improve and learn from a good coach. Take the extra minute to learn the game. Know the difference between a baseball and a basketball.
... and I think therein lies the problem. In the 8th to 9th grade you've got "ballers" as you explained. Then, for various reasons, the ballers lose their interest/focus.
Yeah, but theory can be more fun than reality. Lets use HF as the example (again). If our kids apply the principles & rules of playing basketball (skill training, games, mental exercise, etc) all summer for about 4-5 hours a day, my theory tells me we can whip HJ and Silsbee butt next season ;D
That's a good theory. But in reality, if your kids spent 4-5 hours a day in the gym all summer they'd be burnt out on basketball and HJ and Silsbee would once again whip's HF's butt next season. Just goes to show that there is a difference between theory and reality. ;)
I agree with you buddy. HJ may go to state next year. Those two studs they have coming back will be hard to handle. Silsbee will play small ball next year and may have a hard time against bigger teams.
Sounds like it may be a repeat of this year for Silsbee. This year's first game against HF should have been a warning to Silsbee this year..... a warning that came to against Sealy.
Those are goals for short term success or winning, but if you want to continually win you have to have a strong youth program, which you will usually see if you have the above ingredients. A coach can add those qualties in a few years if the conditions are right for him to do so. Another ingredient that is left out is you have to have a little luck especially when the playoffs start. Another ingredient is Serventhood, or the ability to give up oneself for the team concept. But I like all the ingredients you listed, those are without doubt needed to win. JMO
Ahhhhh!!!!! I can't believe I missed that! Good catch. But to your point, yes HJ has a solid youth program that is the envy of many other programs........ But HF also seems to have just as solid a foundation. Something just seems to go amiss during the transition from 8th (and maybe 9th) grade to Varsity. The wheels on the HF bus just seem to fall off, and most miserably at that.
What ingredient(s) missing from the Longhorn varsity?
Look at the ingredients that HJ has that make them perennial powerhouses (Yes, I know this was meant for Dove, but I've got two cents worth in my pocket): - Talent - Discipline - Tradition - Self-Confidence (Belief in oneself and the team) - Fan Support As you can see, HF currently has only one of those ingredients. But a good coach can add the remaining ingredients in 2-3 short years (I'm thinking of what Coach English has done in Nederland in a remarkably short time).
