I am a mother, and what difference does that make? The Nederland basketball program is one to be rivaled by any High School program. They deserve credit from the District, the fans, and anyone who was watching and was a part of the season. I just do not feel that it is right for people to try and blame one man for the final loss of the Varsity. The Varsity had a great ride, with a great coach, but Coach Kilchrist is a great man, that is not getting the credit he deserves. I too feel that Coach English needs more help, and that is evident to all, but if you are speaking of someone without all the facts, that is just not right, or respectful.
I'm sorry, but I haven't seen one person blame Nederland's loss to Ball on anything other than that Ball was the better team. Can someone point to any of these alleged posts that claim otherwise. The gripes about the assistant coaches all seemed to claim "Nederland would be even better if...."; Not "Nederland would have beat Ball if....".
Question: If HJ was going to State in football ( :D ::) ), would HJ have pep rallies?
Whoa, WHOA, Slow down, Dove!!!!! I still can't get my mind wrapped around "If HJ was going to state in football.....". You can't possibly expect me to answer any followup question after THAT bombshell! :o
So there is *some* jealousy among basketball and football coaches' success?
I don't know, I can't speak for others.... and to be honest, I can't speak for HJ. The HJ football coach/AD is the announcer at our games. I truly think there should be pep rallies at the beginning of the season, the beginning of play-offs and certainly when they head off to state. But that's just my opinion.
I think some of Neumann's critics would quieten down a little if he'd just show the other sports (basketball in this case) a little love. It would've been nice if sometime during this amazing run by the basketball team if the school would've thrown them a pep rally. I don't know who is in charge of scheduling pep rallies but I bet if the AD had said to have one there would've been one. Little things like this mean a lot to all those not involved in football. Just my two cents.
Well, HJ hasn't had a pep rally for its basketball team in the last 5 years. I'm with you.... I think that sucks! But Neumann does not stand alone in that shooting gallery.

Who will be SETX player of the year
Well I realy could give a rats@$$ if anyone on here calles them the best in SETX but Right now Blane Dunigan and Deven Murphy have led the Rebs to the State playoffs, With 60 and 63 points. When all the players that you all have crowned the best... are at home getting for baseball,or next year. And if they win two more games they WILL BE The Best Team IN STEX. But if they LOSE they still will have made it farther than anyone else in SETX. IN my eyes theses boys are the best. And I dont think eather one of they care what other people think of them. They are just glade to still be playing.
TB, I don't see how anybody can honestly argue that Evadale is not the team of SETX this year. Those boys have done a magnificent job and they proven so many on these forums wrong (they've certainly gone farther than I gave them credit). But I'm not sure if you are correct in saying anyone of their players should be player of the year. You yourself claimed that Evadale has won because they are such a good TEAM. You stop one player, and another player beats you. Each game it seems like a different player shines. Let me ask you, is there any player on Evadales team whose absence would have caused them to lose much earlier in the playoffs. I don't think so, but I haven't watched them lately...... but I have been reading your posts and from those I gather that they would have won even with the loss of say..... Dunigan or Murphy. Now, in contrast, if Shawn Prudhomme would have gone down after our first district game, we would have lost against Stafford and Cleveland - hands down. I'm not throwing Shawn's name in the hat, but because I follow the Hawks, I can tell you what I think an MVP is..... someone you can't win without. -
Hmmm- I wonder why the fans of the Lakers, Celtics, Yankees,Patriots, Colts expect to do well every year? Faninthestands- I hope that I have your approval for this ongoing exchange. By the way, if you choose to call me an idiot, I want you to know that you will be 1084th person to say that.
Why in the world would I object?!?!? The Lakers, Celtics, etc... expect to win every year because: a) Their history AND b) They feel their current team is as good as their historical past. Look at the Celtics of the 90's. They sucked. They didn't say, "we've got the most NBA titles so we'll slaughter the Bulls and the Rockets (9 NBA titles that decade?) simply because we're the Celtics. Now, dogs has a point. Someone (I don't know who and I'm not going through a bazillion threads to find it...) made the claim in a recent thread that Cleveland was going to lose to HJ. No problem so far, I made that same claim. But this person claimed (If I recall correctly) that Cleveland was going to lose again, and the only reason they could give was because they'd lost the previous 2 years. They may not have felt that way, but that was the way the message was interpreted by dogs1218, who commented on it, and also by me, who didn't comment on it. I think its that position that sticks in dogs craw. I really don't think its something to waste much time on, but there has to be a better reason to justify why HJ will beat Cleveland. For example, these are the same players that came in twice as substantial favorites and lost to HJ both times and they don't have the backbone to overcome the Hawks. Meanwhile, HJ has shown that it is as strong as in recent years. Hence, HJ will triumph again! -
Personally, I think the little pg from HJ made the difference on that team, Gustafson (sp?). Maybe his name should be put in the pot. No one really expected HJ to go anywhere (other than their own fans ::)
Gus was key to the Hawk's success, but it won't show on paper. -

I am proud of our basketball team and the coaches for their accomplishments this year. I am not sore they lost in the Regional Semi-Finals..... heck, that's the farthest we have been since the 1940's.....you run into really good teams that deep in playoffs and that is exactly what happened Friday night.... Ball out played us. As for what I am hearing about the assistant coaches, I do not believe for one minute that any of the assistants would purposely NOT have their head in the game Friday night.... sorry, just sounds to me like an excuse for blame of losing the game. English is wonderful Coach and we will see a successful basketball program from him.... Neumann hired us a good Basketball Coach.... so what is the problem? Stop the blaming and excuses, IMO, but what do I know right, just an observation here. Congrats on a wonderful run in playoffs guys and as always I will be in the stands doing my job of cheering and supporting our teams.
I disagree. Nobody has claimed that Nederland would have won if they had better assistants. It looks like these people are just saying that Nederland would be better if: a) Neumman would support them by, b) hiring better assistants. With that said, everyone who has made a claim such as this has also stated that Ball would have won the game anyway. I don't see any sore losers, just some Bulldog Faithful wanting to see how to get a little more out of the team in the future. Ain't nothin' wrong with that! I've seen HJ benefit immensely from having excellent assistant coaches (Davis and Lee), so I understand what the Dawgs are loooking for.
Is Lee the 8th grade coach too at HJ?
I do not know. He specializes on the postmen.
Trust me, it's more than just 'a few hackles'. Anyone who works in NISD or knows someone who does, they know exactly what I'm talking about. It's nothing new, this has been going on for years...
OK, I admit that I am completely ignorant of this issue, but I find it odd that one can claim that Coach Neumann would hire one of the premier coaches in the area and in the same breath claim that Coach Neumann wants to see the basketball program fail. Can someone explain that to someone like me (who again is admittedly clueless on this issue).
-
Well, now I'm confused. Coach Neumann hired Coach English, but he doesn't want him to be successful? That makes no sense. And since he's been around, the baseball team has turned into a powerhouse (how long, btw, has he been AD.... I honestly don't know). And the comment about dictatorship, you will always ruffle feathers when you call the shots. You got to come up with something more solid than "he's raised some hackles because of his dictatorship". I'm sure Patton and Eisenhower managed to piss people off.......
-
This is the first team I've seen this year that matched, if not exceeded, the Hawks in discipline and fundamentals. Nederland would come the closest. While the Hawks were turning the ball over time and time again in the first half (was it because they were tired or timid?), Mexia was cutting through our press like a hot knife through butter. Did they ever make a bad pass? And like Lazeek said, Weathers absence hurt them, but I think trying to go into a semi-stall hurt them even more. When you've got a team overplaying on defense, like the Hawks do, you can't simply throw the ball around 10-15 times before someone steals it. With that said, I am once again so proud of that bunch of kids that left their hearts out there on the floor. Great game by both teams. I'm going to miss those seniors! And one more thing, the Mexia players one with class. There was no chest-thumping. Shawn blocked a Mexia players shot, and he turned around and patted Shawn for making a good play. I was sitting too far away from the Mexia fans to see how they acted, but I imagine they were just as classy as the boys on the floor.

Top 25 Players in SETx
I am pretty sure that Shawn Prudhomme has established himself as the best player in the area averaging 28 points per game in playoffs and who knows how many rebounds.
well if Lazeek could count high enough, we would have known how many rebounds. :D -
First Down I have seen Mexia on tape..........very quick, deep and athletic. Reminds me of a team that HJ had trouble with during the regular season. I can assure you that HJ is focused squarely on the Black Cats. And that the people stirring the pot and talking trash on here are SILSBEE fans, that are deep down inside hoping that the Hawks trip and fall!!!! Good luck tonight First Down....come introduce yourself to me. Mexia is very overrated. Their schedule was softer than wet toilet paper. One win vs Crockett doesn't tell the entire story.
Santa, Have you ever seen Mexia play? I live in Mexia, they are not overrated! No team is overrated at this point of the season. Best of luck to the 4 remaining region 3 teams.
Please be advised that the views of BadSanta do not reflect the views of the typical Hardin Jefferson faithful, those of the typical Southeast Texas fan..... nor any other living person! ;) We know you guys at Mexia are the real deal and are looking forward to a close, hard-fought battle. Good luck to both teams!
Man that sounds like you are ready for this year to end. But seriously, next year the favorites tag is squarely on the Hawks. Only question as far as our rivalry will be how well your new pt guard will handle the pressure the Tigers will apply. But HJ will have a huge weapon in Prudhomme and two other big ones in Persohn and Bosha. A big height advantage over us unless our two 6'10 transfers are eligible by the time we play. The Tigers will probably just elect to not show up on nights we play HJ just to save our energy for the other games. :)
Now I know your joking Silsbee has never had any problem getting transfers and making them eligible, and no way am I ready for this season to end... I'm positive that Silsbee will be very good next year, they always are, for the last four years we have been taking turns going to austin....I hope that we do not disappoint this year...
Oh, their 6'10" transfers will be eligible, but they don't want to cut their hair. So they are still questionable! ;) -
So, let me get this straight. The football coach "leads" the Longhorns to an 0-10 season (or were they just winless in district?), while the basketball coach's team has a respectable year - the first respectable year in a LONG time...... and its the basketball coach that gets let go?!?!?!?!?!

IMO, this will be Hj's toughest test yet.
I haven't seen Mexia play, but based on how they beat Hudson a lot worse than HJ did, it appears the Hawks more than have their work cut out for them.
Yeah, I remember that game.... HJ was flat, one of their flattest games of the year (except, of course, for the Nederland game). But remember, a week ago Cleveland "made a statement" with a blowout of 40 points against who, Coldspring? The funny thing about those blowouts is, the next game still starts at 0-0. Hawks, it's time to soar, Baby!!!!
Cleveland did not beat Coldspring by 40. It was Smithville in the Area round.
Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't sure, which is why I asked. But that is irrelevant, the Cleveland fans used that to show HJ what was going to happen to our team, but it didn't faze us in the least. I'm sure the Hawks will be just as unflappable regarding the Mexia/Hudson score.
