Also, am very interested to hear how many times you have seen cleveland play this year since you are predicting they are too much for HJ.  Can I guess that you have not seen them a single time and you are basing this on box scores??" Why dont you stop being so concerned about what is said about HJ on here? You should be doing more important things like getting ready for Wednesday ;) Want me to shut up about HJ? Make it happen Wednesday night buddy and I promise to stop :D
I've got to agree with you on this one, dogs, even if I disagree with your opinion. This is an "opinion forum" and sometimes we take ours and other people's opinions too seriously.  dogs1218 predicts that Cleveland will beat HJ and ain't nothing we say will change his mind...... except for what is said on the court and on the scoreboard!!!! Now, with that being said, I hope you are dead wrong, dude!!!  And I hope that we can discuss this in person in Austin in a couple of weeks as we watch our Dogs and our Hawks play!  ;)
 2.
X rays confirmed, Persohn does have a broken bone in his hand.
What type of brace does he have?  Is it going to affect his play much. I say that because Joe can really drive from the free throw line to his left and shoot a lay up with his left hand really well for a big man.  On the other hand, if it means Joe won't dribble while he's in traffic in the lane, that may be a good thing.  (If I were a coach, I'd make every post run laps whenever they try in dribble through traffic!)
 3.
He'll be good to go for wednesday night
I certainly hope so. Didn't Joe hit two free throws in the 4th quarter after getting his hand taped up and his eye-gash closed up?
 4.
I think they can but with almost every state run there is some luck involved....I hope they are lucky, I already know that they are good.
Exactly.  For the sake of argument (and the prevailing opinion on this forum), let's say that HJ can't beat Silsbee, because they are simply outmatched.  Accepting that, then HJ just caught a very lucky break with Silsbee losing to Sealy.  Of course, this assumes that HJ gets by that beast from up Hwy 105.
 5.
So let me get this straight.........HJ player receives a broken hand on a play and no foul called and then receives a cut above his left eye from an elbow and forearm on a rebound and yet again no foul called!!!!  I guess this gives new meaning to letting them play!!!!
No, HJ player get broken hand on a play where he commits an offensive fouls. Then HJ player got a cut above his left eye from an elbow/forearm on a backdoor pass and lay up to end the 3rd period.  Admittedly, I couldn't tell that the Stafford player clipped Joe as he went for the head fake.
I would support this as long as his enthusiasm doesn't include screaming after every made Hawk basket in the fourth quarter at a volume where it is impossible to understand the broadcast.
I'm not sure if it would be Dove's enthusiasm FOR HJ coming through on the mike, or his enthusiasm AGAINST HJ.  Maybe you guys should have that 8 second delay going on to censor things out.  ;)

Does Hudson have a chance at them? This has been a crazy year for my picking games.
I have seen Mexia play and they are a very good basketball team. Hudson has a shot, if they can get a 6 or 8 pt lead and stall the whole game. ;D Mexia will run Hudson out of the Gym.
I remember Hudson having a guard that was quick as lightning.  Do they have anyone to support him, or are they a one-trick pony?

They are not a jumpshooting team, they have to get the ball inside to the three big guys, and they have to finish their shots. In Fridays game the three inside players schore 39 points in the paint. The team was 3 for 5 from the 3 point line. But still need to make those free throws late in the game ;) But as long as they keep playing this way, the only team that can stop them is themselfs.
OK True, granted, you have seen a whole lot more Evadale games than I have, but I thought Evadale has a good thing going when they work it into one of the big men and as the defense collapses on him, he kicks it out for a wide open 3.  Has that not been working of late?
Well the last 2 games the three ball has not been falling. We went 0 for 10 agains Leggett, and we only shot 5 Friday. Yorktown was a small guard team that was real fast so we did not get many open looks from out side, But they had no answer for the size inside. #21 scored 28 points and they tried 3 different players to try and stop him, and 2 of those fouled out and the third had 4 fouls at the end of the game. # 3 made 2 threes but the most of his 19 points came from him flashing to the goal when they tryed doubling 21. But I am waiting for both players to get hot on the same night, that is going to be something to see ;) :)
OK, well that is the point I was trying to lead to.  You've got a potential to hit some outside shots.  You've got a good inside game.  Now, you've got a two-pronged attack: a) against a tall team, you can hit the three's or b) against a smaller team, you jam it inside. Now, in the best scenario a) and b) are both working, but until then, you go with the best of the two options.  HJ's outside game was really slumping early in district, but the last 5 or 6 games has shown a marked improvement in our outside shooting.... and it shows on the scoreboard. Perhaps Evadale will see that same swing and take it all the way to Austin!!!!  Good luck to those guys!!!

 15.

This was the first game all year that the Rebs have came from behind to win a big game. Yorktown came out a shot the 3 at will. The second half the Rebs went to a man def. and their size was the difference. # 5 for Yorktown had 19 points in the first half, but the man def. held him to only 3 free throws in the second half. scoring for the rebs were

Dunigan 28
Murphy 19

Trucker 6

Stark 8
Totten 4

That is great for those kids.  I've seen other teams simply wear them out this year, so this is a pleasant surprise and what that is very timely. BTW, when HJ won state 5 years ago, they had to come from behind in every game..... by an average of 14 points!!!!!  You talk about character building. Good luck to Evadale!!!!!

Was it a steal or did they throw it away, travel, double dribble......?
Although Nederland had a man on him, the kid just lost the ball going across midcourt and the ball went out of bounds.
hard way to go out for that kid
You never forget that.  I was setting up the last play on a tie game with 10 seconds to go in a tournament championship game about 52 years ago ( ;)), and fell asleep on my defender who stole the ball right out from under me and took it in for a layup to win the game. As you can tell, its sort of hard to forget.

BTW, was Gus fouled on the final drive to the basket?  I don't know.  There was contact but who initiated it?  i think the referees didn't want to determine who the winner was so they let the play go.  it was, IMO, a 50-50 call.
Yes, Gus was fouled and I am not sure who initiated the contact either but believe it doesnt matter because the defender did NOT have position as Gus was approaching the basket.
You could say the same thing about Persohn's offensive foul where he broke his finger.  #11 was in the air (aka "did NOT have position") and Persohn jumped into him to initiate the contact. I think during any other game we would have seen a defensive foul, but the referees didn't call that all night long.  Prudhomme was tripped, Bosha was tripped, and Gus went down earlier on a similar play and they were never called.  Note: the trippings were not intentional, just due to typical contact when driving the lane. So, the referees weren't anything, if not consistent, in not calling that play.
Both of Joe's offensive fouls were legit calls. He lead with his shoulder and created the contact himself on both calls.
Which was my point.  Joe initiated the contact and the ref's called a foul.  Now, the question is, on that last play in regulation, did Gus initiate the contact or Stafford?  My thoughts are that the ref's weren't 100% sure and didn't want to determine the outcome of the game which is why they let them play on.

Just a thought: Jan. 25 - @ Orangefield* (W, 76-36) Jan. 28 - Bridge City* (W, 90-22) Feb. 1 - @ Hardin-Jefferson* (W, 64-51) Feb. 4 - @ West Orange-Stark* (W, 73-46) Feb. 8 - Hamshire-Fannett* (W, 86-48) Feb. 11 - Orangefield* (W, 69-42) Feb. 15 - @ Bridge City* (W, 84-40) Feb. 19 - @ Kountze (W, 95-63) Feb. 24-25 - Sealy (P) Silsbee was in only 1 dog fight in the last month.  Did this hurt them?  And if so, what can you do to about it?  I don't know if you can. On a side note, good luck Travis!  Relax over the summer and get well.  Looking forward to seeing you on the sidelines next year when we play Silsbee. :)
 25. All I know is, Tuesday night, let's get it on!!!! I think its going to be a great game.  And, of course, it don't matter what's happened in the last two years.  The score will still be 0-0 during the opening tip-off.  The only score that matters is the final of this game, not the previous ones. Let's just have a great game and may the best team win.  8)
