2. I think Sutherland is still trying to get into basketball shape.  He's 4 or 5 weeks behind everyone else because of the ankle injury, so I would give him as much playing time as possible to get the feel of the game.  Those 3 pointers are a lot easier in the 1st quarter when your legs are fresh than in the 4th when you are dragging your feet out of weary.  This warm-up game with Legacy was the perfect time to give him this opportunity.
 3.
Wow, that's pretty awesome. Is Grayson the coach's son?
He's one of the two starters that has been injured since the first of the year.  Grayson has been back for 2 or 3 weeks... just in time to get his game on for district.  His outside shot is sorely needed by the Hawks.
 4.
I may be behind on lifting on game days, I would never do it on game days with a program.  The only way I can see it being benificial is if the kids are used to lifting on game days.  If they do a light 20 minute workout with hardly any weight and then shoot for an hour or so I could see it being not so bad.  It may be ahead of the curve, I dont know.  I just dont want to mess with anything my players are going to need on game days.  Especially with their shots.  JMO
bb, this is a running joke on these forums, because that basketball powerhouse over in the Fannett area tends to lift weights on game day, per orders of the football coach, if I remember correctly. Now remember, when you have a winning basketball program like HF's, you can get away with this.  ;)
 5. Maybe we should start a thread that says, "If HF makes the play-offs, I will......."  ;)
 6.
He doesnt NEED to be DC.  He needs to fit in with his TEAM.  Much more important than individual stats.  Like I said before, LeBron and Kobe get all the wows and Paul Pierce matches them every time they play.
I wasn't aware I claimed he needed to be as good as DC.  I merely think its a stretch to claim that he is.

Hmmm?
What size is the Beaumont Independent School District in state rankings and what is the pay scale of Beaumont's Superintendent compared to others in the state? If its what I think it is, then it would be like people always complaining that Hardin Jefferson seems to always go deep into the play-offs even when they are in a rebounding year. ..... Ah, NOW I understand the jealousy!  ;)
Wow, there is intelligent life in Sour LAKE :D
Uh........ actually, um, I'm uh, a transplant....... from Buna!
 8.
Oh, I don't know what he's done besides earn the MVP of every tournament he's played in this year. I mean, that's not a big deal or anything...........
C'mon, let's face it.  Sean is good, but he's not DC....... at least, not yet.

Silsbee too quick and fast
Excuse me dove, but the fastest kid on the floor will be the HJ point guard-  no question about it.  Only kid I have seen who can be running alongside opponents point guard dribbling at full speed and can cut in front of him and steal the ball without making contact.
I will not say anything negative about Gus,  he is a ball player, but I think Gaines has speed to stay right with him. I worry about the Tigers being rusty,  they will have only played 1 game in 2 weeks prior to this one.
The biggest hurdle HJ is going to have to overcome is when Gus is out of the game.  I think he's the only ball handler that can operate at Silsbee's speed.  If Garrett is in foul trouble, it will be a long night for HJ.  A long night, indeed. Correct An RHONE is faster than Gaines so Gus maybe fastest on the court normally but not on this night an I forgot about Donta Wilson he's a Blur with the ball
12. Silsbee will take this by 12.
 13. HJ will win a close one.  HJ 62-60.
 14.
Simple.  To find out what ISD he supports and then throw a jab or two at his ISD/City, just like he's done mine.  Seems that you were looking for something that wasn't there... And your right.  I'm through with it.  WB vs. WO-S.    8)
What?!? Did West Brook and West Orange Stark play?  Who won?  Why isn't there a thread on that topic?  ;)
 15.
I didn't say 'someone can't have an opinon on Butch unless they live in Beaumont'.  I did say they were jealous because that other guy keeps on bringing up 'Million Dollar Stadium'.  Really must have gotten to some people since this is the basketball forum and we're bringing up Stadiums...  But hey, if I'm labeled a hater or even want to say that I said things that I didn't say or imply, then so be it...
It's funny that you bring up Evadale and stadiums.  I would hazard to guess that Evadale's basketball gym is nicer than West Brooks.  Sort of ironic, I would say.
 16.
So east texas bb what are typical east tx "black folk" last names? Jenkins? Jackson? Williams? Again there is no such thing as a east texas black name. Maybe you should think before you ask the question bro! Learn how to ask it and you won't get people jumping on you! Duuuurrrrrrr
Wow, I never thought I'd see this.  BS coaching people on how NOT to tick others off!!!  :D :D :D :D
 17.
Here is how the question should have been asked! "Where is his family from? His last name is not a typical SETX last name. Is it French? When you place color into a question, these are the responses you open the door to. Stay away from terms such as "black" or "white". Say African American or Caucasian. I'm not Human Resources but I work close with them in my prior career.
Why did the color even matter.  Ask, "HJ has some strange names, Bosha and Prudhomme".  I never understood why their ethnicity had anything to do with the question.  I'm not a PC freak, but that set off warning alarms in my head.
 18.
Back to Prudhomme......great kid, great player. Congrats to him he deserves the pub...
Yes he is. He was fun to watch last year.  He was like a double-edged sword. 1 second he's making a steal and hitting a 20 foot jump shot, the next second he's throwing the ball to nobody except for the blond girl in the 4th row eating popcorn!
 19.
In all HJ 31 State Champions!!!!!! 3---Girls Track 400M Girls Track 1600M Relay Boys Track 400M
Mona Martel in the 400 meters.  Girl could fly! Dozier Lee won the boys 400 meters as a freshman.  Then he placed 2nd behind a kid named Ketchums for the next 3 years. Oddly enough, I believe both Mona and Dozier have died.  Neither one would be 50 years old if they had lived.
 20.
Im sure the Beaumont does not pay as well, that part of the state has always been very poor.  Just drive through the toen and look how down trodden it looks.  Regardless they will still be able to offer a very competitive salary for basketball coaches because the money comes from the State.  It just depends on how much the school district want to allocate to the basketball coaching position.
Beaumont's teachers make more than those in Hardin County... I guess they don't feel the coaching is that important.
I think that is probably a very accurate statement.  It's also made me wonder if that's why Joubert and maybe Williams haven't left Kountze or Silsbee to coach in Beaumont.  :-\
Its about the $$$  or lack of...
Really?!?  Beaumont can't offer considerably more than Kountze or Silsbee? :o
 22.
What I would really like to know is who has the best eating joints?
With Chili's and Novrozsky's just down the road, I'd have to give it to Silsbee.  (but only begrudgingly).
 23.
And I'm waiting for the day when a HJ person can compliment Silsbee without boasting HJ at the same time :D
No, you're waiting for any person with a lick of basketball sense to toss a bone to HF's program!  I think you'd even take a compliment from someone who couldn't spell basketball!!!  ;) BTW, you guys used to have a poster on your wall that is the all-time best (I don't know if its still there). "If you can't be an athlete, be an athletic supporter".  Even if it was stolen from the movie Grease, its still great!!!

I keep going into Setxsports.com and clicking on the Boys Basketball Forum and I keep coming to this thread.  Something must be wrong.
Seems the common thread is that SOME EX basketball HJ and Silsbee fans didn't learn to focus and stay on topic for this year. ;)
You know, I just don't understand the prevailing attitude that if one loves their team, then that means they think every one else's teams are nothing but a bunch of losers.  Silsbee has a fantastic team and seems to be especially strong this year when you consider their performances against Ozen, West Brook, and especially Ball.  Hardin Jefferson has a fantastic team, but they seem to be weaker than they have been the last 4 years.  However, they have the potential to be even stronger this year than they have been, should some loose ends come together. But I gotta wonder that each team has benefited immensely by the rivalry that has been around in recent years.  I think each team has made the other team stronger. That's just my two cents worth...........
