Old Blue may be a Brigadier General in the Salvation Army for all I know but he needs to take off those rose colored glasses when it comes to Evadale and that awesome inside game. (he's already thrown the kids playing point under the bus so many times they had to change the tires). Here's a recent gem from a previous thread: "I dont think a 3 game is needed at this point, but I can tell you all this much..Right now the Rebs are not scared to lace it up with anyone.. They are playing this next week at the EC tour. and are the only 1a team. And other than HJ I see no one that they should have trouble with.. Just wish that they had their whole team playing. 6 games in three days is hard when you dont have a deap bench. Not saying they will win them all but they will not get blew out and wont be a eazy draw for any team". How's it working out for you?
I think Evadale has played an extremely tough schedule this year and has nothing to be ashamed of - for they seem to be able to hang with teams that would have blown them away in recent years. These guys are going to be good in their district and should go pretty deep into the play-offs.... no doubt about it.

Glad to read Grayson's moving well. That will be key. Look at the difference between the HJ-LCM games this season, and consider we had two starters throwing up all night last night, and you can see Grayson's impact. His 13 points this game equaled our margin of victory. His three first-half threes turned the game around. Bosha's having a sensational freshman year. I think he's the first freshman to start for HJ, which is saying something. That he's a fine student, and well-mannered, and incredibly composed, is saying even more. I'm lucky to have personally seen him knock down eight NBA-distance threes at Anahuac. From listening to Zeek's broadcasts, it sounds like his game is improving in all areas. I keep hearing Zeek say, "Bosha with the steal." I hope we'll be completely healthy by the playoffs. Could be another special year...
Bosha has incredibly long arms and manages to get his hands on a lot of balls the opposition would not expect him to. Also improving each game as far as driving and is getting more acclimated to taking some contact during his shot.
Bosha is one of those guys that seems to be a lot quicker than he is. He doesn't seem to be going in fast motion, but the next thing you know, he's past you. It's going to be fun to watch him for the next few years.
Wow! What the heck happened. LC-M forgot how to make baskets. I'm sure you credit the H-J good coaching staff for adjustments made in the game. Congrads, Hawks!
I know! If I'm correct, the Hawks went on a 29-4 point run from the 2nd to the 4th quarter to turn a 21-14 deficit into a 43-25 lead. I wonder if LCM's legs got tired, because they stopped making 3's until the game was all but over.

Did Anybody Notice Kountze won by 100 points today?
Disagree with all of you. Only opinions.100 point win is a nail bitter as far as all of you are concerned.
It would seem to me that, if Hemphill wanted Kountze to quit "running up the score", then Hemphill could have stalled the ball. Against a 2-3 zone, they could have run out the clock each quarter. Instead, Hemphill kept playing basketball. So blame Hemphill for Kountze "running up the score". ;) -
The big difference between friday and tuesday was a player who was out due to an injury friday but played on tuesday
There's also that intangible that you can't coach. The one that can cause a 20 point swing in a game that no one anticipates. Home court advantages contribute to this intangible, but there's much more to it than that.
Enough about the refs already.... This thread is about HJ vs EC game. HJ normally doesn't stink it up at EC after their tourney. What normally happens and happened again this year is.....Most of HJ's players have been in the gym for months while EC players are playing football 2 or 3 rounds into the playoffs. EC shows up at HJ marathon with football legs and stumble through the tourney trying to catch up with basketball teams who have been playing basketball instead of football. By the time HJ goes to Winnie for this game, EC is playing a better brand of basketball. Not to take anything away from HJ. Look at the history. HJ beats EC by 30 or so in the marathon and goes to EC a week later for a much closer game.
Wow, a lot can happen in 4 days, eh? Lose your football legs and gain your basketball legs. That's impressive. BTW, I don't recall ANYBODY blaming the refs for anything.

Looks like our good Mason Holland has felt the need to apologize. Of course, the fact that its on CNN probably helped convince him. But alas, does anyone watch CNN anymore? [Hidden Content]
“I worked at it harder than anything in my life and having it taken away from me is a hard feeling,†said Holland describing how he felt after he was kicked off the Desoto County High School basketball team. During a game, Holland received a technical foul. Then he pushed another player. The referee kicked Holland out of the game. Holland reacted by “clotheslining†the referee taking the 51 year old man completely to the ground. “When I saw it I thought wow that’s not me. It’s shocking,†said Holland describing seeing the video of his actions, “I didn’t know at the time on the court. I didn’t feel I knew what I was going to do. It just happened. I couldn’t control it.†“You realize you could have really hurt this gentleman?†asked chief investigator Melissa Yeager. “Right, right. Hopefully..I hope he’s ok. I think he just needed ice for his wrist but my intention was not to hurt him,†replied Holland, “I didn’t do it to impress nobody. It just happened…to me it was part of the game.â€
-

This is what the local news said of the event. The game ended in forfeit after the player from Desoto High School in Arcadia, FL attacked the referee after being issued a technical foul and was ejected from the game. The player has been banned from all extracurricular school activites according to the coach, suspended till January 10th as of now, and a police report has been filed. However, the official involved chose not to press charges at this time. They also said that the Florida Athletic Commission (I what the UIL is to Texas HS Sports) has yet to determine if further punishments will be handed down. -
Really? A couple of bad offensive calls can take a player out of the game. Take Kountze and HJ in the HJ tournament final last year (2009). Brey got his 4th foul early in the 3rd and Kountze wasn't the same after that. I'm not saying any of the calls on Brey were bad, but you can see how a couple of calls can potentially cost a team the game.
I will defend 86hawk.............Having foul trouble does not cause you to make a bad pass, miss FT's, miss open shots, etc. What it may cause is for you to place less aggressive on offense and defense, but not cause missing shots and TO's!!!!!!
I agree that they don't cause the missed shots and what-not.... I never claimed they did. But they can take a team completely out of their offense. And it only takes a couple of bad calls.

21-3A- Is The 3rd Spot Wide Open Race?
FanintheStands replied to BLUEDOVE3's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Hmmmm, I thought 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place are still up for grabs. Go figure. -
You havent the foggiest idea, sir, of what is taking place here. Bluedove and I have an ongoing discussion where one always plays devils advocate with the other. If you believe asking a question of Dove (with tongue in cheek) is passing judgement, then you, yourself, have erroneously "passed judgement."
Steve, not every reader on this topic is aware of the "ongoing discussion involving devil's advocates" and nothing in your original post indicated that there were any tongues in any cheeks. Let us review:
Hmmm- You believe that people participating in illegal activities are nice people or just nice on the surface?
Give me a break, who in here has never done anything illegal? especially in high school. Now granted they got caught and will, and should, serve the punishment but that does not automatically make them a bad kid. If my friends and I where caught doing half of the stuff we did in high school we would be in Levinworth, but believe it or not we all turned out to be good dads, docs, coaches, buisness owners, lawyers, and best of all Christians.
Please, I think you should address to Stevenash, for he is the only one that has passed judgment on these three. Everybody else here agrees that they should be punished, but not condemned.
HJ HAS to get Anderson and Sutherland healthy and in shape. If so, then it's "game on"!!!! If not, I would be surprised if they split. But I would be even more surprised if Silsbee goes 3-0 against HJ (2 district and 1 Regional Final). -

If you answer Silsbee, its because HJ is the weaker team. If you answer HJ, its because Silsbee is the weaker team. I'm only leaving Hamshire Fannett out of the mix because both teams have to play them. -

That's a big enchilada to swallow. I love my Hawks, and I love the heart that they display, but its an uphill battle to beat Silsbee. This district is Silsbee's to lose. It's not impossible, but the smart money would be on Silsbee......... or Hamshire Fannett. -
There is one thing that Silsbee got out of this game that is as good as gold for the rest of the year. They know that, whenever they stop on the court, they are going to face a team that they can beat. No other team that they face the rest of the year will give them the test that Ball gave them, and they proved that they were up to the test. Did they lose? Yes, they lost the battle, but I think this may help them win the war! ......at least until they step into the Hawk's Nest!!!! ::)
Well said True Blue. Very good analogy. Sorry that the PG that was with yall so long decided to advance his life ahead of schedule. He will regret it. Not the child, but that he missed his shot of playing. Now the rest of the team has to hurt because of his choice. BlueDove good point as well. I also wish we would stay with HS ball. NBA and HS are alot different. No one presses in the NBA, big HUGE difference. Do PG guards need other players to succeed? Yes. Does a spot up shooter need others to succeed? Yes. Recent newsletter by a profound basketball coach who is going for his PHD said that the most important skills to teach a kid is to dribble. Brian McCormick. Without that skill you can not take the next steps that are necessary. It is a great occurance in Youth Basketball that coaches try to individualize a player. Putting this kid at post and this kid at PG. His thesis was to teach all players how to dribble, because it is the most important skill to step-teach to the next level and also because you do not know if the Tall kid you put at post will not grow and if the PG will shoot up to 6'11". His point being was how critical it is for each player on the floor to be able to handle the basketball. His thought process is very easy for me to understand. I also would not limit a shot creator to a PG, or a spot up shooter to a 2 guard. Most 2 guards that were considered great were the ones who could do it all. Most 1's have a whole load of stuff on their back to carry. Extension of coach on the floor, reading the floor(passing to open players, spot up shooters, post players in position), shooting the shot, starting the offense, guarding their man, creating a shot when the offense collapses, feeding the post. Lastly, I have never seen a box and 1 on a spot up shooter, I would give him an extra step closer on helpside d, but he would have to be a very special shooter for a box and 1. I also would not be happy with my spot up shooter just creating a little more space on the floor. I would expect him to be a threat, preferably a triple threat. One who can shoot, pass, and dribble.
You know, that is one of the things I've always marveled at during HJ games.... every player knows how to handle the ball. Now granted, some are better than others; that's natural. But even the post men are adequate dribblers. A few years ago, the Hawks had their center dribble out the last quarter because the guy guarding him from Jasper was 300 pounds. So HJ spread the court while their center handled the ball for over 2 minutes before the Bulldog fell on him! It was comical to watch, but it was impressive, too.
