Sorry, but we did a poll at Hardin Jefferson, and sliced bread came in Second.  HJ IS the greatest thing!  :D (Man, considering that I grew up being beat like a step child by HJ basketball, I can't believe I'd ever say that!)
 2. It's gonna be nice to see the Hawks play a game at 80% strength someday.  In the meantime, some guys are getting some quality experience.  This is going to pay off in the end, because HJ is going to have a deeper bench than they've had the last couple of years when the two starters return. Thanks for the update Lazeek!
 3. 9 point lead and Central at the line?  No problem, we got 'em where we want 'em! Go Hawks!  Keep scrapping, guys!
 4. Never say die, Hawks!  Who's the injured player?
 5.
Was hj still missing there starters?
No, two starters.  A third starter was questionable with an ankle sprain, but he played last night. The two starters are post Anderson, who would have matched well with Nederland last night, although not in the class of Forney.  The other starter is Sutherland, who gives HJ a good outside threat.  Very good 3 point shooter.
 6.
Like I have previously said both teams benefit from this game win or lose.  Both teams were without starters, Forney with hand injury and Pitts playing time was cut way down due to being sick.  It was a good game.  Nederlands depth and much improved defense was too much.  Both teams when healthy should go far this year.
Yeah, this game will benefit both teams.  Nederland has a solid offense.  I know they missed more 3 pointers than they usually do, and when Forney comes back, they'll be a contender. HJ had an offnight.  Its true they won't have a star that can carry the team on his back, like they have in the past, but they are going to be all right.  The key to how far HJ goes is with Anderson, the injured center.  G Sutherland will be back in a couple of weeks and give us an outside game, which will open up a few other things on offense.  The Freshman will continue to mature.  The kid seems to have a good head on his shoulders and is willing to learn, but he's prepared to play varsity.  Gus will be rock solid at guard, especially in a couple more weeks as he reconditions for basketball.  I liked Person's 10-15ft. jump shot.  He has a nice touch.  And Sean P will certainly not off nights like he did tonight (although Nederland gets a lot of credit for getting him out of the game). But Anderson getting back to 100%, or as close as possible, will be the key to the Hawks play-off run.
 7.
DC ('6"4 ;)) is the best player in the area. My opinion that is agreed upon by many of the local coaches in this area that I have spoken to this year.
The problem is, in my opinion, DC is too small to be a forward and not quick enough to be a guard.  He's a good all around high school basketball player, though. I think the most overlooked part of his game is his intelligence.  He's like a quarterback for Silsbee, and without him in the game... it shows.
 8.
I think with DC and a strong starting lineup and bench, Silsbee can go far
Thanks for that observation, Mr. Obvious!  ;)
 9. Those guys will pass a layup to get the 3 ball going.  Should be a great game, anxious to see how the fresh does in his second game.  Good luck to both teams.
If you look at it that way, then you've never seen an HJ press.  They will get a steal here or there once in a while and then all of a sudden they will score 10 points in 40 seconds if the other team falls asleep.  Nederland is going to have to limit those runs. I am looking forward to a good game tonight, and though I think HJ will win, I do remember when Nederland came over to our court and killed us 2 years ago.  Ya'll had a small guard that hit like 50 points, mostly from the three point line.  Your guys took advantage of the 3 starters who had played JV the previous year.  That was sad, but it was fun watching those three mature throughout the year.
I think this team this year handles the press better most of the groups in the past. HJ may get a turnover here and there in fast break of a turnover, but I cant imagine Nederland letting HJ score 10 in a row without some kind of score. Cunningham and K-Smith are 2 of the top players in the area and can score the basketball. Im not sure how the big guys for HJ are going to do against Kelvin down low either. And just imagine if Forney was healthy and ready to go. Nederland would pound it in the paint all night. As you can tell, I think Nederland is going to win tonight, but it will be a good one because HJ comes to play every night.
Yeah, I heard Forney is a beast under the basket.  They didn't use him very well at all the last time he was at HJ....... he just filled up the lane.  But I understand Nederland came around to realize that he was an offensive force, which helped propel them into the play-offs (Go 'Dogs!). HJ is missing our center, Will Anderson, who would have matched up better with Forney.  Will might be able to come back but he hurt his knee the last game of football. We'll see how the press works tonight.  Good luck, guys!

 11. Regarding the Opening Post - Mama - has the coach expressed his plans for the freshman and JV stars?  I know Coach Sutherland agonized over whether to move Bosha up to Varsity.  He wasn't sure if Bosha would be ready for the increased speed of Varsity, but Kountze's speed and quickness was a good opening test for the kid. I wouldn't assume that the rosters are automatically locked in for the full year.  Coaches may bring players up to go to tournaments or these holiday games and test the kids - that's what I would do if I was coaching and had a young prodigy.
 12.

But circuit training on game day? Thats 30-45 minutes of extra gym time and skill development those kids could use.
it aint basketball season in hf it is football offseason tried to tell yall that when they made the hire
After the way HF has looked the last few years in football, I'm not sure I would make this claim..... ;) Now that I've caught up to this part of the thread, I see your point.  That's incredible, demanding the kids to lift weights on game day.  Perhaps its part of the conditioning process?  Perhaps it will ease up when district rolls around.  If that's the case, it may not be a bad idea. You never know what talent the kids truly have until they realize how deep they can draw on their reserves.
 13. Overall I was very impressed with HJ's half-court game, even without Grayson and Anderson and with Gus running on low-fuel from the 2nd quarter on.  Of course, that may have been due to Kountze's lack of size, but it was still very impressive for a team that relies so heavily on intensive pressure on defense to keep the game at a fast pace. Teams that want to slow down the game on the Hawks may be due for a rude awakening!
 14.
Congrats Bosha on putting up the points. Way to kick off your high school basketball career!
My only fear with Bosha is that he made his first two three points - one from left field and the other from behind the right field bleachers (a bank shot, if I recall correctly). He ended up missing his next 3 or 4 three points attempts.  I hope he doesn't intend to continue raining 26 and 27 foot 3 point shots and tries to drive and shoot for the two.  He pulled up and made a couple of real pretty 15-foot jump shots.  I think this will fit better into the HJ game plan.
 15.
32 for prudhomme?  HJ might have their superstar for the next two years... wait, 20 for the freshman bosha?  HJ might have their superstar for the next 4 :)
As long as those two guys keep looking for the pass from Gus as he cuts through the lane, they'll keep up these numbers. I bet he had 15 assists tonight and most of them were easy layups!
 16. This game will be a good one.  Nederland better hope that they can handle the press, because HJ has two quick guys with long arms right up front on the full court.  I expect Nederland to win the 1/2 court game, but HJ will have a couple of 8-0 / 10-0 runs off the press.  If Nederland can limit those runs to 1 or 2, they'll win.  If not...... BTW, I'd love to see these two play later in the year when they are at full strength.  What's up with Forney?
 17. Yeah, one of the things about Jacoby's defense is that his turnovers immediately created points, as they usually happened right under the other team's bucket.  :D
 18. Does Silsbee have a chance of going to Austin? Only if they: a) move to another region. or b) move to another class. Oh wait.  There's also c) If HJ moves to another region or d) If HJ moves to another class. :D
 19. Lancaster is up by 3, but I can't tell how much time is left.  7:05 left to go in the game.
 20. The live radio feed is spotty, as well. Last I could tell, 65-61 Lancaster with 5 minutes to go.
 21. Lancaster is now up by 6 in the third!  :o
 22.
I'm pretty sure the server got overloaded and crashed or simply cant handle all of the requests. Here's the game to at least listen to live...better than nada although it too is even spotty at times. Radio
Thanks! So, what's the score?
 23. Is there something wrong with the feed at Foxsportssouthwest.com?  I just get a whole bunch of buffering.
 24. Yates is incredible at: a) causing mistakes b) converting mistakes
 25. 41-31 Yates with 1:54 to go in 2nd quarter.
