I was probably as close to the floor as anyone. The coach did not yell at the officials but he made comments to him every trip down the court. The official warned him several times and eventually he warned him and the coach responded leaving the official virtually no alternative but to give the coach the heave ho. I think officials are way too easy on coaches. When the coaches are mouthy the players become mouthy. They are just a reflection of their coaches. If officials would kick a few more coaches out then the coaches might spend more time coaching instead of showboating for fans, players and officials.
Man, you were on a roll until you added that last part. ::) I don't think the coaches give a whit what the fans are thinking or saying during the play of the game.

MOST DISAPPOINTING FINISH OF YOUR FAV HS TEAM???
FanintheStands replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
In 2005, the Hawks were ranked something like #5 in the state (not sure of actual ranking) and got beat by a Jasper team in the very first round. If I recall correctly, it was Coach Davis (HJ's current assistant coach) who beat HJ. -
I'll pick an order form there and bring it back to you.
What's the chances of scanning it in a PDF format and posting on these forums?
I don't have the discipline to do that. ;) ;D
.... being that you're from Silsbee, I would expect that! ;) -
Anybody can play the we played bad card but Aggiesarewe bottom line is you picked a 20 point game and you were obviously wrong not that it matters but still just saying. I really don't think you can argue those charges neither team could really have any complaints about the officiating. I just hope Silsbee can represent region 3 well at state they have a real solid team.
I agree that the officiating was balanced. Both teams got away with some no-calls, and both teams had bad calls against them.... rather evenly, I might say. I will say that the offensive charges in the 2nd quarter (3 of them, at least) were bad calls that put key players on the bench. I can't say that happened to Fairfield, only because I don't know the players. You would be the judge of that. But all in all, the officials didn't have a big impact on the game. Even though we sat our best players on the bench, the team was able to rally and extend out to a 10 point lead. So, pardon the pun, "no harm no foul" on the ref's officiating! ;) BTW, good look to you guys in your upcoming season. Are ya'll returning a lot of players? I also heard that this was the first year in coaching for your guy. Is that true?
I say it's two different styles, not necessarily that one is disciplined and the other not. You could say that one team is more disciplined or systematic and the other more athletic and creative. But I will disagree with the notion that Silsbee is too undisciplined to win a championship. Sutherland coached teams doesn't lose to undisciplined teams, at least not 4 out of 6 times. ;)
All right. All that we've proven is that both of us are able to show how to use an "opinion forum", eh? ;) But seriously, good luck in Austin! I hope you guys prove me wrong!
So you are saying because one team has a better coaching staff that makes the other team undisciplined?
No, I'm saying, as I've heard numerous other posters on this thread, that HJ excels partly because they are so disciplined and all the players know their role. I don't see that in Silsbee. I'm sorry. Great athletes. Great shooters. But I can't help but think that they can be a better team. But, since you've seen my reasoning (or lack thereof) and my conclusion, what would you call it?

Sorry
Maybe not but they have a great chance that only 1 other area team has. And either way We Tiger fans will be very proud of the season they have had. Just like HJ we had many questions coming into this year. No serious outside threat, replacing a 2 time all state point guard among them. At the end of the year we have what is probably the Tiger team best suited to win state in many many years.
You are absolutely right. If Silsbee goes home Thursday night, you still have a lot to be proud of (and rightfully so). But if they hang in there for two more games and bring home the trophy, then all of Southeast Texas (including numerous Hawks fans! ;)) will be even more proud of you guys! Go Tigers! (P.S. I never thought I would be saying that! ;))

Don't get me wrong, I'm pulling for the Tigers to represent 21-3A and show the rest of the state what pressure basketball is! But I haven't seen Silsbee play up to their full potential, even after 3 games with the Hawks. If you pressure them, they turn the ball over. They are still inconsistent at the free throw line (although that was the difference maker last Saturday..... sadly). And I don't think they have the discipline that is necessary to win a state title. If Silsbee had the discipline to play up to their full potential and talent level, they should have beat Hardin Jefferson by over 20 points.
Silsbee undisciplined? ::) I guess that speaks volumes of the HJ team with this undisciplined Tiger team beating the very well coached HJ team 4 of the last 6 times these two have met. ;)
AAW, do you think man for man, HJ had a team that was only 3 points less than Silsbee's? I mentioned to the Tiger fans around me before the game that, "watching the two teams warming up, I wonder how Silsbee doesn't beat us by 30 points". Three of them pointed to the HJ bench and said, "Because we (Silsbee) ain't got him (Sutherland)". So evidently, several of your brother Tiger fans feel the same way. ;)
But that doesn't make them undisciplined.
OK, I'm game. What's a better word for it?
