1.
The Tigers do need to limit the turnovers but those do happen when a team gets rattled and a lot of ours came when we were rattled in the fourth.  HJ's pressure got to us at that point.  The rest of the time we did fine.  Free throw shooting for the Tigers has been fairly consistent except for the Rudder game.  What has the chance to win these last two games for the Tigers will be our defense  if we can keep pressure on our opponents we will give ourselves a chance to win.  We have played great half court defense most of the year limiting teams good looks.
ST, I hope you're right.  But, even eliminating the string of turnovers, Silsbee was out of their offense for most of the 2nd half.  Admittedly, Silsbee's defense took HJ out of their offense for almost the entire 2nd half as well. And we all know that offense wins games, but defense wins Championships!!!!! Good Luck, Tigers! BTW, I previously mentioned the Silsbee fans and how I enjoyed sitting with them during the game, but there was a guy that I sat next to who is going to the State Tournament this week for the 49th straight year!!!!!!!  Now THAT'S a fan of high school basketball!!!!!  :D
 2. I gotta admit, I'm not sold on Silsbee, yet.  Don't get me wrong, I'm pulling for the Tigers to represent 21-3A and show the rest of the state what pressure basketball is! But I haven't seen Silsbee play up to their full potential, even after 3 games with the Hawks.  If you pressure them, they turn the ball over.  They are still inconsistent at the free throw line (although that was the difference maker last Saturday..... sadly).  And I don't think they have the discipline that is necessary to win a state title. If Silsbee had the discipline to play up to their full potential and talent level, they should have beat Hardin Jefferson by over 20 points.
 3.
Me too. I can remember win I was first started going to HJ games and watched a little kid (and I mean little) doing back flips off of the bottom row of bleachers, I went home and told my wife about it and she laughed and said it was probably Jacoby, and he was going to be one of the best athlete for HJ one day. Fast forward 10 years....guess what he was. Again congrats to all of the HJ seniors.
My past memories of HJ were much more horrifying.  I played for Buna in '80 and '81.  We were a short team, so we had to press the entire game.  And then, to make it worse, some disciplinary problems (both freakin' years!!!) caused us to play with a small roster - 7 players!!!! We could run with every team in the district, even running them into the ground, except for those Hawks!!!  Mid to late in the 1st quarter, the game would be close, then the buzzer would sound and all 5 HJ starters would sit on the bench and 5 more would replace them.  No problem.  We"ll just keep taking them to the hoop.  2nd and 3rd quarter - same result!  But by the 4th quarter, I was so sick of seeing those waves of guys coming off the bench, I thought I was going to die!  HJ would always pull away from us in the 4th.  For that reason, I have empathy for those teams in the play-offs that often try to run with us

 5. You may want to ask the Silsbee fans.  Wrong game.  There were at least 3 technicals called on Hudson.  One was on the head coach and a second was on an assistance coach.  This got the head coach kicked out.  A player also received a technical during the game.
Fairfield was okay, played pretty descent defense. But HJ played terrible in that game.
I think a lot of that "terrible play" came from the solid defense.  Of course, a few atrocious offensive charging fouls certainly didn't help. Although, ironically, our 2nd quarter run occurred while Gus was on the bench with his 3rd foul (2 "very offensive" offensive charges).
 7.
Great job Silsbee, good luck in austin you should do well, go into knowing that you deserve to be there and that you have all the tools needed to get it done. This was another HJ classic. I was really pulling for my hawks to win but if we cant go I'm glad it is Silsbee that is going. Both teams left everything on the court saturday night, if you would have told me we would only make two free throws in the second half and our 3 point percentage was dismal, I would have said there is no way we would have been in the game. All I can say is that the hawks dont die quietly...they go down fighting and scratching all the way. The HJ Silsbee match ups in the last four or five years have been phenominal... To the Coaches I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, this time of year is hard on your family with so much time prepairing for the next opponent. Yall are truly class acts. I still believe we have one of the best coaching staffs in the state. I have loved to watch you guy's over the years, yall coach every second of every game, and I thank you for the time and effort you put into these young men. Please know that you make each one of them a better person just for knowing you. To the seniors I want to say that yall have been truely awesome to watch, regional finals four years in a row making it through and to Austin twice and bringing home the state championship once... is an amazing feat. None of you have anything to hang your heads about. I have grown to know yall over the years and yall have provided some of the best entertainment money can buy. I love you guy's and will ALWAYS remember each and every one of you.  ;D You guy's are awesome. To the underclassman, you guy's have alot of work to do, You have a great group coming back, and it is up to yall to carry on the Hawk tradition.
I could not have said it any better. Those Hawks make me proud, year in and year out!
 8.
Trust me, HJ will be fine next year and the year after. As long as that coaching staff stays there, the Hawks will be very good. HJ and Silsbee have a good group coming back for next season and will battle again for the district and regional titles. But after next season, the road looks to be much tougher for Silsbee than HJ based on what the sub varsity games have gone. Silsbee is waiting on that 8th grade group.
Will Stallworth and Lane be returning?  Enough said. Same time next year, guys?

But Hj does has what Silsbee doesn't. And that's the "Heart of a Champion"  H J is starting to remind me of all the Rocky movies... These guys just keep figuring out ways to win!!!
Tonight HJ was Rocky but Silsbee was Mason 'The Line' Dixon If you can recall Mason 'The Line' Dixon was the fighter that defeated Rocky right before Rocky retired for good  :D
If you think this is the end of the line for the Hawks' play-off runs........ you're nuts! Congrats Hawks on a great show of determination, and Congrats to Silsbee! Make 21-3A proud, guys!  And teach Coach how to do that shuffle for goodness sakes!!!!!!
That was never said  ::) But if you are HJ you definitely just unloaded some awesome talent these last few years I am thinking that it might be awhile before those shoes are filled agian ??? Great effort HJ!!!             Great job Tigers!!!
Yes, and that's been about the third year in a row that we have heard that.  Will there be a Donohoe, a Benard, or a Turner next year?  If so, his name will be Prudomme.  But with Gus and Sutherland coming back, there will be numerous offensive weapons.  I understand the Freshman is going to be a future stud and even Pershon might make a big impact. In short, there will be enough role players that will keep the Hawk Machine Flying!

 12. I just got back and I want to say that was a great game.  Every dribble, every pass, every rebound, and every shot was contested!!!  Both sides gave it 100% and all the people in the stands saw a great game!!!! I especially want to thank the Silsbee fans for putting up with me!  Due to seating arrangements, I had to sit around a bunch of Tiger fans and all of them were cordial.  We all had a great time, although I would have loved my Hawks to have won!!!  Good Luck, Tigers.  You better step it up in Austin, because you've got the talent to go all the way.
Best we had shot from the field all year I was so proud of how clutch some of our shooting was when you play a program like Hardin Jefferson you have to step your game up and we did ]. Always a good defense but the offense was a lot better shooting wise at least just too many turnovers which you can attribute a lot of to great defense. I dont know how many times we got stripped by the quick hands of yalls defense.
Big men shouldn't dribble.  Period.  I think it was on another thread that it was mentioned that Fairfield had 5 straight turnovers.  What was critical about that was that it was a 4 point game midway through the 2nd period and our starting point guard had just drawn his 3rd foul and was sitting down.  That's when we stretched it to a 10 or 11 point lead.  I was afraid we were in huge trouble when Gus sat down. But you guys were really solid fundamentally.  Great coaching job!
 14. Gus will get called for goal-tending and Sutherland will be at the receiving end of an Alley-Oop Dunk!!!! Hawks by 2 in overtime!

But yes, that is an interesting fun fact.  Of course, it and $4.50 will get you a Mocha Latte at Starbucks!  ;)
maybe hj does have chance?
Of Course, they do!!!! That's why they play the game, my brother!

 17.
I will never say HJ doesn't have a chance been prov en wrong on that one before. If the Tigers play like they did tonight, take care of the boards better than last HJ game and hit their free throws we win by 8. We have to stay out of foul trouble.
Let's have an overtime game!!!!  Hj by 2.
 18.
Yes, it will be a great weekend!  See you there!
 19.
I am fond of those Weldon studs.  Unbelievable: Today is Ryan's 20th birthday.  Though I never got to see my boys dunk on a 10' goal, I couldn't ask for better sons.
Well, that explains my confusion.  I thought Poppabearstar was Ryan and Sean's poppa.  My bad! Tell Ryan Happy Birthday, from Jessica's dad.
 20.
Sammy Stelly
Big, Tall, and Lanky?!?  That's him! He's an example of every basketball player that ever came out of Hardin Jefferson.  He can dribble, even for a big guy!!!! (except of course for our current ball-handler, Gus, who is obviously leading the district in turnovers, eh swag?)  ;) I remember just 3 years ago, the center for HJ, Colby Sundgren, had to dribble out the last 3 minutes of the game to beat Jasper.  He was doing all right until, with 30 seconds to go, the 300 pound opposing center fell on him!!!  That sequence of events was one of the funniest things I've seen.  :D
 21.
Venable earned his way into the starting line up this season after about 10 games or so...........he is important but not a vital part to HJ.....he will be replaced with Prudhome in the starting line up next season.  Ricossa........well what can you say about this kid.  He will be tough to replace but after two knee issues over the last two years I can see either Persohn, Sadien or even the sophomore to be Carr  stepping in and helping out on the glass and rebounding.  I am not sure but I would say that Ricossa is averaging less than 5 points a game since his return during district.  The big difference he made was on the press break!!!
Ricossa's Defense will be missed, as well.  True, the kid helped out a lot in breaking the press.  But I think he was the heart and soul of the half-court defense...... yeah, maybe he and Jacoby would be more accurate.  I see Will Anderson and Persohn (if he gets a little quicker) filling in Phillips shoes pretty well. But overall, 2011 will be a rebuilding year for HJ..... I predict a State Tourney Bid for the poor kids.  ;)

The key to the post is favorite, not best, Therefor not seeing some of the other players I just cant make them my favorites. I've heard alot and read alot about Rocky that guy must have been a lot of fun to watch, wish I could have seen it.
