Our gym is state of the art.
Yes, and this is a long-standing tradition. I remember playing basketball in Hamshire Fannett (we used to shoot the ball in peach baskets back then....) and seeing the sign above the gym: If you can't be an athlete, be an athletic supporter.
Henderson Jr. High used to have to bus two of their four teams to the Nome Gym every day for practice. Now, the Jr. High has two gyms for four teams and the high school has two gyms for six teams. HJ did it right. Could have been a little bigger but, their practice situation is much better now than it used to be.
Well, you see? It's only 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon and I've already learned something today!!! That makes my day complete! Thanks, Lazeek, and good night everyone!

Let's just take it for what its worth; HF's gym is WAAAAYYYYY better than EC's. hahhahahaha ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Well yeah, but since the HF gym is SO good, nothing else compares. That's why we haven't been talking about it.
First of all, please note that I was being sarcastic on the "get your priorities right, HJ" comment. The new school is fantastic and that comes first. But........ why not use the Henderson gym right across the driveway as the second gym and build a single nicer gym at the high school? Do you ACTUALLY need 4 gym's in one spot? I'm not saying......, but I'm just saying.
The junior high boys and girls teams would then practice where?
Hmmmm..... where did they practice last year when they only had 3 gyms?

Fight mars ending of Central/Ozen game
This just adds more cause for the dwendling respect for the Ozen program. This is classic example of how athletic competition does not build character as much as it reveals it. The Ozen player failed the test in sportmanship and character...I'm waiting to see how the Ozen administrators handle this situation to see if they too fail the same test. For some reason, I don't have much faith that this will be handled harshly enough.
Although you have a legitimate point, the beginning of the boys game that followed showed all the members of both teams coming out and hugging each other to show that the previous sucker punch wasn't indicative of the rest of the players. I much prefer to dwell on that positive note then simmer on the negative. -
The difference is that HJ built and two new entire schools and renovated others with their bond and EC passed a $4 million bond just for the new gym!!!!
So my question is, "Why can't HJ have their priorities straight like East Chambers!?!?" I mean, C'mon Man!!!!!!

HJ vs Bridge City Updates/HJ wins
Was Ricossa playing when HJ lost to NW at the EC tournament?
No. He had some good minutes tonight, but got called for some really ticky-tack fouls. I was most surprised that HJ really got to the boards tonight. I thought BC would be better at blocking out, but they didn't. It's not that we out jumped them, but more that they simply didn't block out. -
I sat in that gym during the EC tournament and thought, "Hmm, HJ built a new gym and EC built a new gym. Why couldn't ours be as nice as theirs?" That continues to bother me. A quick and easy answer would be so that they could have the second gym right next door, but that answer seems hollow when you realize there are two gyms right across the driveway (50 yards away!). That is a fantastic gym, Buc fans!

HJ vs Bridge City Updates/HJ wins
It was a 29 point game with 4-5 minutes to go and HJ unloaded to the bottom of the bench..........BC left their starters in the entire game. HJ missed more lay ups than I have ever seen.......in fact they just missed another, and another and another!!!! However I was very impressed with 35 from BC!!!! He is solid!!! Also #45 from BC looks as if he gives 110% the entire game!!! Other than those two BC does not have much!!!
At 6'5" (?) #35 was putting in 3 pointers, at least 3 of them if I'm correct. He has a real good shot, especially from the free throw area. -
The only celebrating that really matters Hj will not be there. Its the 1 held in March at the State Tournament. Matter of fact Hj last Celebration was last month held on their court at their Tournament. What a coincidence yall won that 1. Yall couldn't even when a 2a tournament in Winnie. So us Ktz Lions will get the last laugh and the last celebration of the season. So Hawkettes laugh all u want but we will get the last laugh and the last celebration. Hahahaha laugh at that
Swag, ain't nobody laughing at Kountze. As a matter of fact, pretty much all of the Hawks will be rooting for ya'll at Austin. But your reply tells me that you ain't listening to sound advice. If you were at the HJ-Kountze game, you know that TrophyMan was right. Those dunks were followed up by lay-ups by Turner. That should be inexcusable. Once maybe, twice oops. But all three times. Now, I think Joubert is a little smarter than you (at least, I HOPE so!) and has shown that little fact to his players and they won't let that continue to happen. If they fail to adjust to that, there is a New Waverly or two just waiting to play ya'll, because you KNOW that they'll be trying the same thing. -

So I guess we should tell our kids to not try so hard in district academic competitions because one school isn't as good as the other. Why take AP classes? Fit in with regular students, etc, etc...............Are you classless because a student prepared and scored very high on the SAT and others weren't as prepared?
But there's a huge difference. Your score doesn't affect the other student's score. You both can get 2400 on an SAT, for example. -

I want to see the outrage the next time a suburban school runs up the score in any sport. All I'll hear probably is crickets unless your wives or mothers allow y'all to speak on the issue.... Bunch of Broads......
.... except for some of us who are disturbed had no clue that Yates was an inner city, 3rd ward (I still don't know what that means) school. Please try to refrain from bringing race into the issue. Besides, that's Obama's job! ;) -
Are you saying the coach at OF at this time was an a-hole? Do you know the situation with this OF/Kountze football game?
I played in the same district as Kountze and Orangefield that year. Kountze was a weak team going years without winning... something like 110 games if I remember correctly. Regarding Coach Peveto..... he was a rather pompous and arrogant man in many people's opinion. He was famous for keeping several players behind in 7th grade so they could be older when they are seniors. -
How bad did yall beat Legacy? 120? So now a 100 has a cap on it? I guess 120 is the max before it gets classless!
Was HJ pressing the whole game when they beat Legacy or did they put in their bench and pull back on defense? The only time I saw HJ press the whole game during a blow-out like that was when the other team's coach told Coach Sutherland to keep up the pressure. It seems the other coach wanted to teach his own players a lesson. -
Good news for Lee is theyll get their CHANCE at revenge later in the year ;D
I wonder how the Yates non-basketball coaches feel about this. I recall during the middle of Kountze's record-setting losing streak in football(back in the 80's), Orangefield went and spanked Kountze 99-0. Actually, the game wasn't as close as it seems... there were only 2 digits to post the OF score and word had it that they scored 107!! Sadly for Orangefield, however, Kountze had to play them that year in basketball and I recall hearing about a world-class beatdown. Of course, it may not have reached 170 - 35, but in any event, the Houston Yates football coach may have some long Friday nights ahead of him next year!!! People don't forget things like that very easily. -
Congrats Coach Todd Sutherland!!!!
FanintheStands replied to Lazeek's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
BTW, are there any numbers available for Coach Sutherland's Play-off record? That is probably an impressive statistic. And, while he was at HJ, I would be willing to bet none of those Play-off wins was against a 1A or 2A team!! 8) -
I just wanted a little recognition for our kids, I'll take 21 for now, if it means a trip to Austin.!!!!! ;D
But it doesn't mean a trip to Austin. Actually it means nothing. But you're right. It is nice to see the kids get some recognition. Of course, that means they're going to have a big bullseye on theirs shirts against every team they play. State rankings have a way of weeding out the pretenders and I don't think PAM is a pretender! Good Luck!
