Breaking News: No Hockey This Year at Ford Arena
hockeyfan replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
That's sad. :'( But at least we have a better shot at getting things done the right way for the 09-10 season. The odds of things working out for 08-09 were very slim, especially with the season being only a few months away. Oh, well. I'll just have to see more Houston Aeros and Mississippi Sea Wolves games, plus ordering NHL Center Ice and NHL Network. The bad thing is that Aeros games are so dang expensive, and Biloxi is about 6 hours away. -
Stars win again to force Game 6!

Austin Ice Bats are moving - maybe to Southeast Texas

From what I've heard from other CHL teams' players and coaches, this ownership group seems to be reliable. -
Wildcatters hold end-of-season open house Monday

It was nice to see they guys all together one last time. Here are photos: [Hidden Content] Hopefully, we'll get a CHL team next season. Until then: :'( -
Tonight is the deciding game of the series. GO WILDCATTERS!!

Contrary to what has been said, the CHL is NOT lower than the ECHL. They're both AA hockey leagues. The main difference is that the ECHL is more of a developmental league, where most players go there as a "stepping stone" to the NHL. While the CHL does have its fair share of call-ups and assigned players, you will find more veterans and guys that just want to play. The season that the Wildcatters sat out for Rita (05-06), I attended a LOT of CHL games. The skill level isn't much different than that of the "E". Now, would the teams be as good as the current Wildcatters? I highly doubt it. This year's Wildcatters are more like a triple-A (AAA) team playing in a double-A (AA) league. I believe that the CHL would be a better fit. There are so many other teams in Texas....just imagine the rivalries!

WIN - LOSS- OT LOSS - SHOOTOUT LOSS As far as standings points go: WIN = 2 LOSS = 0 OT LOSS = 1 SO LOSS = 1 So we're 40-5-3-5 and that means 88 points. 40 wins = 80 points 5 losses = 0 points 3 OTL = 3 points 5 SOL = 5 points ------------------ 88 points ;D

The latest press release: To our Loyal Season Ticket Holders, Fans, Golden Triangle Members and Others Interested in the Growth of Sports and Entertainment in Jefferson County: As many of you are aware from reports in the media, the Texas Wildcatters are in discussions with representatives of the Jefferson County Commission with respect to the renewal of the License Agreement signed by both parties five (5) years ago. That License Agreement provides the Wildcatters two (2) options to renew that Agreement for five (5) years each. By mutual agreement of the parties, those discussions are being conducted in an informal and respectful manner in order that the parties have the opportunity to best understand the respective perspectives and needs of the other party, and are not subject to daily positioning in the media. The Wildcatters have made some creative and exciting proposals, including purchasing and bringing additional sports properties to Ford Arena, and remain optimistic that a renewal agreement can be reached. We believe that the existence of the current dialogue with County representatives is a positive sign. The Wildcatters were able to arrive at the point of desiring to exercise their renewal option by virtue of two important developments for the Wildcatters. First, and related to the opportunity developed by the current Wildcatters’ ownership participants to bring an ECHL team to a new $135 million arena in Ontario, California, commencing in October of the year, the ECHL approved on January 23rd the current Wildcatters’ ownership request to place an expansion team in Ontario. The payment of a significant expansion fee to the ECHL on behalf of a newly created ECHL membership for Ontario will thereby create an additional ECHL membership and enable the Wildcatters to stay in Jefferson County on a permanent basis. A second development, and as most of our loyal fans have been aware, the Wildcatters have believed that local ownership by residents of Jefferson County would be a real asset to the business of the Wildcatters and provide a true and permanent relationship with the community. We are pleased to confirm that Ms. Sharon Terrell, a native of Jefferson County and a long-term season ticket holder has agreed to purchase a majority interest in the Wildcatters. She has a strong belief not only in the long-term importance of the Wildcatters to the quality of life in the County, but also recognizes their significant economic impact to the County in bringing employees and teams and fans of other cities to Jefferson County, as well as their charitable and educational endeavors. The ECHL’s approval was subject to resolution of the renewal of the License Agreement with the County and approval of Ms. Terrell’s majority ownership of the membership within a time period that permits appropriate scheduling of games for next season. In the meantime, the Wildcatters, with their winning ways on the ice as the team with the strongest record in professional hockey in North America, continue to proudly represent the State of Texas throughout the United States and Canada. We thank you all for your continued support. Sincerely, The Texas Wildcatters Organization

From what I understand..... The county is wanting the Wildcatters to pay $10,000 per game if they renew. And the reason why the Wildcatters have had this season and last season rent-free is because of the county forcing them to take a year off due to Rita, while they realistically could have played that year. It was either give them two seasons rent-free plus profits from parking and food, or pay a LARGE sum of money to the team. The county chose the lesser of the two. I really hope that we have hockey here next season, whether it's the Wildcatters or another team/league. The sport have grown a lot in this area, with many adults and children playing in GTIH(Golden Triangle Ice Hockey). With no pro team, there's no ice at the arena. No ice means no recreational hockey, of course. :-\

Wildcatters win streak at 18 after 4-1 win in Pensacola
hockeyfan replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
And it continues! The 'Catters STOMPED the Mississippi Sea Wolves last night in Biloxi by a score of 10-5. Yes, the Wildcatters scored TEN goals last night. Here are photos from the game, thanks to a good friend of mine that is a Sea Wolves fan: [Hidden Content] And it's not a win streak, but an "unbeaten" streak. In other words, the Wildcatters have gone 19 games without a regulation loss. The only losses that the 'Catters have had during that time were either in overtime or a shootout. Either way, they earn 1 point in the standings for an OT or shootout loss, so it's basically like a tie. Regulation Win = 2 points OT or shootout win = 2 points OT or shootout loss = 1 point Regulation loss = 0 points Their record is 24-2-1-4 for a total of 53 points. Awesome! 8) -
Schaefer, Aeros subdue Rampage

I was at the game! Mom won a team-autographed Aeros hockey stick in a raffle, so we came to the game and picked it up. Albers and Rosa played a very good game.... And the fight between John Scott and Josh Gratton seemed to last forever. Josh Gratton is one of my favorite hockey enforcers. I remember when he played for the San Diego Gulls in 03-04 and he played against the 'Catters. -
