The other factor in the Golden Triangle that has not been brought up has been the effect that Hurricanes Rita and Ike has had in this area. Specifically the population. The population has declined since the two hurricanes and so has the talent. After the hurricanes people started heading west towards Houston and north to East Texas and the Metroplex. I think the Golden Triange will be able get teams into the 3rd, 4th and an occasional semi-final and a rare title game. I think Newton will always be a threat in 2A. I think we will have trouble getting over the hump in 5A-3A. Money and facilities are not the only factors. I think we do pretty well with our resources.
I agree with your assessment of the likely depth of the playoff runs for the 3A thru 5A teams from Southeast Texas and spot on about Newton, seems like the Eagles are up there year in and year out.

With the players Vidor is losing, I think competing for the 4th playoff slot is about the best we can hope for in 2013. A 6-4 season would be a successful one for the Pirates IMO. Will probably have quite a few players from this year's 8-2 freshman team on varsity next year. Nederland will remain strong, PNG should rebound, Livingston seems to always be in the mix and LCM should be competitive again as well. Ozen and Central are always capable of making some noise. Lumberton can only get better. 1. Nederland should be the overwhelming favorite here, but unlike this year, there is no clear cut #2 so I think the other 3 spots are up for grabs between Livingston, LCM, Vidor, Ozen, PNG. (Central could be in the mix is well, Lumberton rebuilding).

Most districts just do not have that kind of money to spend on coaching and athletics, just a fact. Also it's hard to get bond issues passed in this area. Facilities have much to do with recruiting in college, talent wins out in high school.

Was hoping for an Angelton win, but Georgetown is a great team. Should be an entertaining game vs. Nederland. -

Yep, running out of time. -
Dawson Coach Eric Wells post game comment:
Tim Riggins replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Quite a contrast from Angleton's head coach and his aftergame comments to our team last year. Wildcat coach is a prime example of winning with class. Don't know how he would handle a disappointing loss like Dawson had, but I would bet it would be with class too. It's always good to see a cocky team go down, especially to an "underdog". -
Yes the end of the game was a misreable performace by the refs the radio broadcasters from Pearland Dawson said that time had clearly expired on the game before the fieldgoal.
Yeah, the "phantom field goal" would have made it a heartbreaker for Ned if OT had gone PD's way.

Pulling for the Wildcats in this one. Georgetown will be a load though.
Rob, are you gonna complain about that on every post? 2100 is still 4A. Give it a rest. LaMarque whooped up on FWood and Manvel in recent years and they had 3A numbers versus 5A numbers.
I agree, time to let it go, UIL sets the numbers, all the schools just have to go with the numbers they're given. Luck of the draw in the playoffs and all that. Now about BC, many schools would like to be in that position of making the playoffs 4 years in a row. Winning a couple would be nice, but that will come. Look at Barber's Hill, they finally got a playoff win last night. It should help when 3A goes to 4 teams in the playoffs as well.
Once we get past Tomball we will be waitin' on 'em. ;) Sorry about the loss Vidor fans, Would have liked to see 'Cats vs Pirates again this year, and I'm sure you guys would have loved another shot at us also! ;D
That will be a good matchup, will be pulling for Angleton in that one. Your head coach's talk to our team after the game last year won me over. A class act for sure!

Plus 1, thanks, good thoughtful post.
Please stop arguing. I didn't post this thread for that. I wanted to tell those Pirates to keep their heads up and they had a great season. AND Congrats to SC on the win!!!
Agree wholeheartedly!
Hats off to Vidor. Your guys have heart for sure. I didnt know anything about your team but have plenty respect.
Thanks appreciate it, y'all have an excellent team and should go deep this year.

THE OFFICIAL 20-4A CROW EATING THREAD
Tim Riggins replied to cougar14's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think Nederland will win against Dayton Saturday, Ozen will have to really battle to win. A reversal of fortunes from last year. -
The QB in Vidor's offensive system has to be a running back also, just the nature of the beast. If not he would just hand off and throw the occasional pass.

Well, since the other thread is locked, here goes....congratulations to SC, y'all have an excellent team. Way to fight Pirates, just ran into a better team tonight. Still notched the second best regular season record in school history. Congratulations to the Pirate seniors, y'all had an excellent run the past two years, you will be missed. Also thanks to our 20-4A brethren for the support, noticed lots of PNG and Ned. fans as well as Raider Girl. One more thing, go Nederland! Will be pulling for you tomorrow against the Broncs!
