Prudhomme adjusting to new role at Hardin-Jefferson
sleepy replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Just a curious question. Why do most most of the black players from HJ have unusual names, like Prudhome and Bosha. Is it because it is close to Lousiana? Seriously just a question. Are alot of the families in that area have similar names?
Boshas have been in the HJ system for the better part of 40 years -
When did the subject on this thread move from "Don't Assume Johnson Will Start" to "What sport did Aggie Are We Play?" This is the wrong site for self-promotion. EPG
Bye!

Baylor, Michigan, Kentucky, TCU, along with many others wanted Jeremy at QB. I understand that Briles is still wanting JJ at Baylor to be his next QB. ;) Sleepy, like you said, I'll take those guys knowledge over these wannabee's on here. ;)
So, would you as a coach change what you have built? Do you change what was working? Do you change your program to accommodate someone who will probably transfer after one year?....It doesn't take a sharp knife to know when he left WV, it wasn't to come to Lamar.....unless you tell me otherwise, JJ will most likely be at Baylor in 2012. not sure who the wannabee comment was for.....don't know too many on here....we're the football guru's that came up with "Da'Butch" and things like that... ;D
Well let's think about this for a second oh smart one. He came to Lamar primarily because he was homesick and he did not want to sit out a year. If he came to Lamar for one year and went to Baylor guess what would happen????He would have to sit out another year at Baylor!!!!!!!!!!! If he transferred after one year at Lamar which would only leave him with 2 years to play because once you start your eligibility you have 5 years to finish 4. So there goes your "genius theory."
Why was JJ good enough to be recruited by West Virginia as a QB but alot of people want him to change positions at Lamar ???
You took the words right out of my mouth. Top 10 dual threat QB in the country fellas. WVU and rivals have forgotten more about football that we all know. It's a matter of time whether you people want to accept it or not. I will also state this as I have before. Prewitt played well but they beat Mary Mother of the Blinde and a couple more just like them. You guys act like he knocked off SFA or something. Come on fellas. And as you are talking about Johnsons 57% completion percentage lets look at Prewitts stats in the last game he played against quite possibly the worst team to ever walk in to a Lamar football stadium. 10-20 for 137 yards. WOW.........that is going to win us alot of Conference championships. Prewitt is clearly a great kid and I love what he did last year in Lamars first year but Johnson is just flat out on another level. Prewitt was 62% on the year by the way.
-
Prewitt will play regardless, even if JJ wins the spot at QB. Prewitt wants to be on the field.. I'm assuming he'd move over to receiver and work to get reps there. From what I hear, he is a great worker.
I agree but he will not be playing QB!

Silsbee's Johnson tranfers to Lamar
sleepy replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Sorry guys. This guy is a DIFFERENT kind of athlete. All he has to be is a half way decent passer and he will be the starting quarterback. With his speed he immediately reduces the blitzes up the middle on 3rd and medium. He makes the spread option viable. Because he makes the spread option viable he immediately makes the running back and o-line better. Sorry fellas this kid is a different talent than this team has seen. Even better he is a hard worker who is a good student and comes from a good family. Lamar is lucky to have this kid and time will prove me right. -

You don't have to be a program that shops at Thugs-R-Us for quality football players
No you don't but when you are starting a new program and you want to win now these are the things you have to do. You guys act like these kids committed murder. They had some discipline problems and if the screw around here they will be gone. The risk will in the long term will be worth the reward. Some will workout........some won't. The ones that do will be special. I don't get some of you guys. You come on here moaning about how bad we are at certain positions and how if we don't improve the coaches will be gone. We go get a big 12 offensive lineman and people find a negative. Simply amazing!!! If this were the basketball team getting a Big 12 transfer we would be crowing the cards the next Southland Champions. Not in football though. Mysterious to me. -

Jeremy Johnson To Stay Mum Til At Least Friday
sleepy replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Guys........don't get me wrong I am not saying there won't be a fair competition. That will happen as it should. The point I am making is it won't be much of a competition between prewitt and johnson. Johnson is just that talented and he also has a good work ethic and is a good kid. I like prewitt alot. JMHO! -

On your theory that a one eyed one legged man could make those passes in Boston I will assume this. Rondo only has the stats in the assist column because of the greatness around him? If that is the case let's look at the most talented teams in the league and according to your theory we will find two more below average passers who look good only because the guys around them. Obviously the most "talented" teams in the league are arguable between the Lakers and the Heat with the Celtics following a close third. The Miami Heat have two point guards that play the majority of the teams minutes at PG. Carlos Arroyo and Mario Chalmers. They combine to average 37 minutes per game, 9.6 points per game, and 5 assists per game. Then you look over at the Lakers who have Derek Fisher and Steve Blake who average a combined 46 minutes per game, 13 points per game, and 5 assists per game. Rajan Rondo is averaging 4 more assists per game than all four of those combined so that is double the amount of PT as well. I will tell you that your theory that having the best talent does not automatically produce Rondo's assist numbers and a "one eyed one legged guy" can't make those passes in Boston. I will also argue that if Rondo were a "below average passer" that he would not be in the league due to all of the other (according to you) insufficiencies in his game.
You missed out on the biggest point, Iverson didnt create for anyone but himself, that is not the kind of guard I am talking about. I can not stand Allen Iverson. He is an Allen Iverson maker not a playmaker. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT AND YOU DO IT IN DIFFERENT POSTS TO. YOU TAKE PART OF THE ANSWER AND REARRANGE IT TO FIT WHAT YOU NEED. Why would you pick Allen Iverson? Because you know he is selfish and it fits your argument. You should be a politician. I think everyone is agreeing except you that a playmaker is more valuable than a spot up shooter. I agree that the best teams emply both, but the one that makes the team go is the one that can do it all while the other waits and hopes he gets a kickout. And I know you say your feelings are not hurt but actions speak louder than words. And listing your guards, you missed a few of the top 5, a couple of big ones. Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James. any of those vs your best shooter and sorry to tell you but your golden boy Ray Allen is not the best shooter in the NBA right now. Steve Nash has a higher percentage than anyone over his career. He is what you call a 180 shooter, 50% from the floor, 40% from the 3 point land, and 90% from the line. There are only 5 in the NBA right now that shoot that high and Nash leads them and Allen is 3rd or 4th. I already said Ray Allen could create shots himself and you told me he couldnt. So which is it? I will address your infatuation with Rondo, yes he is a good defender, one of the best in the league. He is a very average passer I dont care what the stats say, if one eyed one legged man was passing to the guys he does they would have alot of assists. He is a very below average shooter. That makes him 1 dimensional. Shaq shoots a higher percentage than Rondo, does that mean he is a better shooter? No, it means he takes all his shots close to the goal. Rondo is not even a top 10 guard in the league. I can name 10 better than him any day of the week. If the Celtics had someone else they would run the tables. Watch the next game and notice one thing. When Nate Robinson goes in watch how much better the Celtics become, because someone has to guard him instead of play play4-5 feet off of him. And Nate is a very average guard. I will pick my best playmaker and you pick your best spot up shooter. Mine is Michael Jordan. Who is yours?
East texas BB. Come on man. It is clear you watch basketball and know it. You just said that Rajan Rondo was not a top 10 gaurd in the league and that Nate Robinson was better. Here is who you are saying you are smarter than when it comes to basketball. Danny Ainge (Celtics GM who resigned rondo when he could have gotten ANY free agent PG to come to Boston if he wanted to). Doc Rivers(Helped make the decision with Danny Ainge). Mike Krzyzewski (helped chose Rajan Rondo to be on the USA basketball team.) Jerry Colangelo (helped chose Rondo to be on the USA basketball team.) Those 4 know a little more than you do about basketball. Sorry. I don't have a problem with you saying the shot creator is more important than the spot up shooter. I can live with that. However, to say that a guy who is setting NBA records in assists is an AVERAGE passer is just poor judgement. You don't become an all star and all nba point guard by only being good at defending. Sorry. Just doesn't happen that way. You clearly are bothered by Rondo's poor shooting and that is fine. However, it says how good he is at the other aspects of the game when he is chosen to teams and things he has been chosen to when he is a below average shooter. Rajan Rondo is not just a great passer he will go down as one of the top assist men in the HISTORY of this league. Those that do that are not BELOW AVERAGE PASSERS. Sorry.

Is Hj's "Zjori Bosha" The Best Freshman in our area??
Evidentally we have a lot of guys who were spot up shooters in HS. No one is bursting my bubble on Rondo, I know basketball and I am not going to argue on this subject anymore. It is stupid. Rondo can not shoot, he is a very average passer, he may have alot of assists but that is his sole job and he is surrounded by All-Stars. Makes for a great team, exectaly what the Celtics have. Does not make him a good passer. And I am sorry about saying Rondo couldnt shoot, I forgot about layups. Anyone that would argue that they would rather have someone who can only make shots created for them vs. someone that can create his own and make shots from others is not thinking straight. That is a simple statement and a simple answer. 1 player can do both the other player can sit in the corner and hope someone gets him a shot so he can shoot. The best players in the game could create their own shots. Plain and simple. I dont have to post youtube videos (of one clip which I didnt even take the time to watch). It is just common sense. Good luck to the Bosha and HF players, wish them the best. Have a great day. Im through with this topic.
If you TRULY believe he is an average passer you have NO IDEA what is going on. I don't care if it is his only job.........he is damn good at it. Again I will say this......if you cannot admit that Rajan Rondo is a great passer........you have no room even TALKING about basketball. -
No I dont think Rondo can create his own shot. What would he create, an airball? I mean seriously the guy shoots worse than shaq. He is a good defender but it stops there, very average passer and very below average shooter. He is surrounded by alot of great players therefore he looks good. You name a 5 man team with spot up shooters only and I will name a team with players who can create their own shot and we will be able to look at the players and decide which is better. Just spot up shooters, not post players. And I will name just guards that can create off the dribble. My 5 that can create off the dribble are Jordan, Kobe, Lebron, Bird, Nash, Magic, Pistol. There is my top 7 players and arguably the best player that ever lived, the second and third best and the others in the top ten of all time.
I hate to burst your bubble buddy but you do not have to be a great shooter to create your own shot. Rajan Rondo creates shots because of his ability to pass the ball. He is as quick as anyone with the ball in his hands and when he gets in the lane the defenders are so worried about his ability to pass the ball he is able to use a ball fake a score on the inside which is creating his own shot. The greatest of shot creators were and are as great as the are because of their ability to get to the basket and score a layup. Lebron is a TERRIBLE shooter by NBA standards and in the playoffs you have seen the celtics sag off of him and force him to shoot for years. However he can still create a shot because of his ability to get to the basket. Now am I comparing Rondo to Jordan, Bird, and Magic.........no...............but you said he can't create his own shot and that is just flat out wrong! Am I dreaming or did you say average passer??? He is the best passer in the game today and will be one of the greatest this game has seen. -
One question for the Bosha kid and the HF kid for those who have seen them play. Do they make most of their shots off the dribble? There are alot of players who can shoot the ball, but only a few who can create their own shot within the offense. This statement is coming from someone saying the Bosha kid hit 8 3's the other night. I know alot of players who have made a living off of kickouts. I dont know if this is happenign or not because I have not seen them play. Did he create the shots or were they kickouts? If they were kickouts then I would not consider him a star. Secondly, I just wanted everyone to take a step back and look at this from we are judging a freshmen and 8th grade players. It is a little too early to say what they will do in college and life. I dont know if anybody remembers Michael Leblanc or Calvin Murphy Junior who were supposed to be stars and the next NBA players when they played for the Hoops. Murphy ended up at Niagra, a small school in the Northest and Leblance went to Conneticut, could not play and ended back at Houston Baptist. These are just a couple of examples of young kids who everyone thought were stars and future NBA players that did not come close. I too played against the Houston Hoops, beat the Houston Select and played for them as well. I got camps paid for and had letters in the mail from major D1 colleges starting my soph and junior year. This was about 15 years ago. I improved some from my junior to senior year and still received letters and visits and all that stuff. I played Division 2 ball, had the opportunity to play at the Division 1 level in the Northeast but did not want to move. My point in this is I worked my tail off everyday and lived and breathed basketball and received the same "hype" for lack of a better word and ended up playing D2. Dont stop dreaming and working hard, but realize that paid camps and letters from colleges is a long way from playing at Duke or the NBA. I also agree 100 percent about Little Dribblers and some coaches who play kids just because of affiliation with someone who has a little power in a small town. That does happen but you usually will not see it in good programs. If you do see it in programs they will not be very good. I also agree that you will get college scholarships from playing in AAU and camps, but a State Championships was always the most important to me. It was not something that was great for the spring, it was my biggest dream.
great post -
